Beckman, MTS/Valvoline Dodge races to Bandimere speed record while other DSR teams struggle
Morrison, CO – Jack Beckman led Don Schumacher Racing’s charge up the mountain Friday in the Mopar Mile-High Nationals but the
trek was not as enjoyable for his six DSR teammates at Bandimere Speedway.
While Beckman’s run in 4.097 seconds at a track-record speed of 309.91 mph in his Dodge Charger R/T earned the provisional No. 2 qualifying spot in Funny Car heading to Saturday’s last two sessions, Spencer Massey’s Battery Extender Powered by Schumacher dragster was the best of the DSR Top Fuel trio with a No. 7 provisional qualifying position.
The high-altitude track near Denver robs nitro-fueled, supercharged racecars of air and keeps their power below the routine 10,000-horsepower output.
U.S. Army NHRA Racing 34th Annual Mile-High NHRA Nationals Friday Qualifying Report
Morrison, CO – It was a rough opening day at the mile-high office for the U.S. Army duo of Tony Schumacher and Antron Brown, both
of whom struggled to get down the 1,000-foot straightaway at Bandimere Speedway just west of Denver during both rounds of qualifying Friday for the 34th annual Mile-High NHRA Nationals.
Considering their respective teams push technology to the absolute limit week in and week out on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series circuit, displaying a level of engineering and teamwork that is reflective of the Army’s leading-edge technology and the powerful, realistic training of its Army Strong Soldiers, pushing the limits, especially 5,280 feet above sea level, subjects even the most proficient racing teams to days like this.
Antron Brown leads off the DSR Pre race Report for the Mile High Nationals
– Antron Brown is a New Jersey native living near Indianapolis who feels very comfortable racing west of the Mississippi.
After a rare weekend off, Brown’s Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster team along with the rest of Don Schumacher Racing head west to Denver this week to begin the traditional NHRA Western Swing that includes races at Bandimere Speedway followed by successive racing weekends near San Francisco and Seattle.
It’s a trifecta in which the reigning NHRA Top Fuel world champion has cashed in on before and came close a year ago.

MORRISON, CO – Amidst the rarified air of Bandimere Speedway just west of Denver, it’s time this weekend for the U.S. Army Top Fuel
Dragster duo of Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher and Antron Brown to elevate their games to the 5,000-foot-plus level as the 34th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals kick off the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series’ traditional Western Swing.
Getting the most out of their 10,000-horsepower racing machines becomes the challenge this weekend for Schumacher and Brown, as is the case each year when the NHRA competitors set up shop at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. And getting the most out of their respective Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) teams is the challenge during this always-grueling three-week stretch that also includes stops at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway and Pacific Raceways on the outskirts of Seattle.

U.S. Army Teams Find Tough Goings – Schumacher and Brown Lose Traction in Round 1 at Summitt Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals
Norwalk OH – The U.S. Army Racing duo of Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher and Antron Brown were hoping to extend the Independence
Day celebration through Sunday’s Mello Yello NHRA Top Fuel final in the Summitt Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. Unfortunately, the smoke in the air wasn’t a result of the fireworks in the winner’s circle, but instead it hovered midway down the Summit Racing Motorsports Park dragstrip as both drivers lost traction during their first-round matchups.
Despite possessing mental, emotional and physical strength reflective of the more than more than 1 million Army Strong Soldiers they represent, both Schumacher and Brown, made an early exit in the season’s 13th event.

Each driver completed their runs in identical 4.103 seconds ,but the 60-year-old Gray left the starting line six-thousandths of a second ahead of Capps and that was Gray’s margin of victory.
