HULL CLAWS HIS WAY TO THE QUARTERFINALS IN EPPING
EPPING, NH – It’s an exciting day at the races when the No. 16 qualifier takes out the No. 1 qualifier in the first round. Funny Car driver for
Jim Dunn Racing, Buddy Hull, did just that today at the 12th NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway. Driving the nostalgic, 75th anniversary Mooneyes Funny Car, Hull advanced past No. 1 qualifier and reigning World Champion Austin Prock. He then fell in the quarterfinals to Spencer Hyde, the leading Rookie of the Year contender and eventual race runner-up.
“Nitro Funny Cars, man. If you can just go to A to B in these things, you have a 50% chance of winning,” said Hull. “That’s just what it is. And in that first round, we went A to B today. It wasn’t an incredible run, but it got the job done. Austin Prock smoked the tires at the step, and unfortunately, we fell victim to the exact same mistake in the second round against Spencer Hyde. But again, that’s NHRA drag racing for you.”
Out of three qualifying attempts made between Friday and Saturday, Hull’s best run came during Q3, with a 4.190 second, 309.70 mph pass. During his second qualifying run, he had his best reaction time of the season of 0.079 seconds. All throughout the race weekend, he was consistently posting some of his best reaction times of his Funny Car career. Now in his sophomore season, Hull continues to get more and more confident in his ability to control the race car. Continue reading

Jim Dunn Racing and Buddy Hull will be bringing iconic Mooneyes look to Epping this weekend
LONG BEACH, CA – NHRA Funny Car driver Buddy Hull and the Jim Dunn Racing team are set to turn heads as they roll into the NHRA
New England Nationals at New England Dragway, May 30-June 1. Their striking 75th anniversary Mooneyes livery, making its third appearance this season, will make its furthest eastward debut, bringing a new level of style and performance to the east coast. Longtime sponsor Compass Facility Services will also be featured more prominently on the back wing of the nitro Funny Car for this race and the Thunder Valley Nationals.
Hull, who has been steadily building momentum throughout the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season, is eager to capitalize on the team’s progress. With strong qualifying performances and consistent gains in power and precision, Hull is ready to put his Funny Car through its paces on the legendary New England track.
“The Mooneyes livery is not just eye-catching – it’s a tribute to the spirit of hot rodding and the roots of our sport,” said Hull. “To bring this iconic design to the fans in New England, for the first time this far east, is something really special. BUDDY HULL BLOWS PAST CHICAGO
CHICAGO – Nothing about the sport of drag racing is predictable, and that rang true for Funny Car driver Buddy Hull, the Dallas-based
driver for Jim Dunn Racing at the Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by PEAK. Hull and the team battled the varying weather conditions all throughout qualifying but finished the weekend strong by making a solid pass in their Mooneyes 75th anniversary Funny Car.
“I love racing the Mooneyes Funny Car and I hate it we didn’t get to win more rounds today,” said Hull. “The fans in Chicago were great and we made some consistent runs. I knew we had a chance in the first round against Paul Lee. This team has been getting better every race.”
Day one of qualifying brought heat and high winds, a strong 4.057 second, 319.98 mph pass during Q2, and ended with a dust storm. Day two brought low temperatures, and the strategic decision to not make the fourth qualifying pass. Hull entered race day from the No. 15 spot, outqualifying four other competitive cars. He was paired against No. 2 qualifier Paul Lee for the first round. He made a solid 4.293 second, 252.95 mph pass, but it wasn’t enough against Lee’s 4.229 second, 225.11 mph run. Continue reading
JIM DUNN RACING, MOONEYES AND HULL HEAD EAST TO CHICAGO
LONG BEACH, CA – Jim Dunn Racing is headed to the 2025 Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals in full throttle, and Funny
Car driver Buddy Hull is ready to ride the momentum from a stellar showing at the American Rebel Light NHRA 4-Wide Nationals two weeks ago in Charlotte. Sporting a striking yellow livery celebrating 75 years of Jim Dunn Racing and Mooneyes, Hull’s hot rod will be one of the most nostalgic and eye-catching machines on the track at Route 66 Raceway this weekend, May 15-18.
“I can’t wait to hit the track in Chicago with this Mooneyes 75th anniversary hot rod,” said Buddy Hull. “The car looks absolutely incredible, and to represent two legendary names—Mooneyes and Jim Dunn Racing—on a stage like Route 66 is a dream come true. It’s a huge deal to bring Mooneyes back east with us. The fans eat it up when we bring out the Mooneyes car, and also when they can purchase their Mooneyes merch.”
Drag racing legend Jim Dunn and Mooneyes, the iconic brand known for its rich hot rod heritage, are commemorating their shared 75th anniversary by running a special celebratory livery at five races this season. Chicago fans are the second group lucky enough to experience the car in-person. In addition to catching a glimpse of the car, fans will also be able to purchase all of the classic Mooneyes merchandise at the fully-stocked Mooneyes souvenir trailer located in the midway. HULL ECSTATIC ABOUT CONSISTENCY COMING OUT OF FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS
CONCORD, NC – Not every race has to end with a Wally for it to be considered a successful weekend. No one can attest to that more in this
moment than the Funny Car driver for Jim Dunn Racing, Buddy Hull. This weekend at the American Rebel Light NHRA 4-Wide Nationals, Hull matched his personal best elapsed time record, set a new personal best for speed and made a 4.0-second run on three out of five of his passes, the most consistently his car has run quickly since he stepped foot in the Funny Car class a little over a year ago.
“I am pumped up coming out of this race,” said Hull. “We are so close to running a 3-second run that I can taste it. Running low numbers so consistently fires me up in a way that is difficult to fully articulate to someone who doesn’t have the pleasure of driving one of these nitro Funny Cars. I am just so proud of the Jim Dunn Racing team this weekend.”
During the first round of qualifying on Friday, Hull made a 4.010 second pass at 318.77 mph. This run matched his personal best elapsed time that he set during qualifying at this same race in 2024. It was also his fastest run so far this year. He then bested that MPH, by making a 4.036 second, 320.97 mph pass during Q2, officially setting a new personal best in speed in the Funny Car. These two passes were enough to qualify Hull in the No. 15 position, in a crowded and competitive 18 car field. Continue reading
HULL AND JIM DUNN RACING READY TO REACT IN CHARLOTTE
LONG BEACH, CA – Jim Dunn Racing and NHRA Funny Car driver Buddy Hull return to the track this weekend at the American Rebel Light
NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. Hull is bringing momentum and confidence after a strong performance in Las Vegas. Driving the Jim Dunn Racing Funny Car backed by KGC Construction, Hull enters Charlotte looking to capitalize on his best reaction time of the season, achieved just two weeks ago at the Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals. That sharp starting line performance marked a turning point for the sophomore Funny Car driver, who continues to grow more comfortable and competitive with each pass.
“This car is coming around, and I’m coming around with it,” said Hull. “Vegas showed us that we’re making progress, and getting my best light of the season there just fired me up even more for Charlotte. Four-wide racing is wild, but I love it—it keeps you sharp and makes everything that much more intense.”
With the bright blue and red KGC Construction livery prominently displayed on his 12,000-horsepower Funny Car, Hull is proud to represent a company that shares his passion for building things the right way—whether it’s construction projects or successful race weekends. Continue reading
BUDDY HULL AND JIM DUNN RACING CLOSING IN ON SUCCESS LEAVING LAS VEGAS
LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals are a unique national event experience for the thousands of fans in attendance and the
NHRA professional teams. For Jim Dunn Racing and driver Buddy Hull this weekend’s Four-Wide Nationals showed the team is moving in the right direction in a crowded Funny Car field. Through two days of qualifying on Friday and Saturday the KGC Construction Dodge Charger Funny Car was solidly positioned to race on Sunday while a handful of full-time teams battled to get into the 16-car qualified field. At the end of qualifying Hull was the No. 14 qualifier and he was slotted into a competitive quad comprised of No. 3 qualifier rookie Spencer Hyde, No. 6 qualifier rookie Hunter Green and No. 11 qualifier Dave Richards.
“I feel good about our chances in the first quad. We match up well with all three of the other Funny Cars and the four-wide format has shown anything can happen,” said Hull at the conclusion of qualifying. “This whole Jim Dunn Racing team has been making improvements every race this season and we can run with anyone I feel.”
In the first quad Hull and the KGC Construction Funny Car were lined up in lane four and as all four Funny Cars rolled into pre-stage the chance for two Funny Cars to advance to the next round was a toss-up. All four 12,000-horsepowered Funny Cars took off together with Hull cutting his best reaction time of the season a solid .097, second quickest of the quad. The KGC Construction Funny Car was charging down the fourth lane and as the finish line closed in its smoked the tires on a tricky track robbing Hull of valuable horsepower and he could not catch up to Richards to secure the second spot and a chance to advance to the second round. HULL AND JIM DUNN RACING GEAR UP FOR FIRST FOUR-WIDE RACE OF 2025
LONG BEACH, CA – As the 2025 Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season heats up, Buddy Hull driver of the Jim Dunn Racing Funny Car,
are set to take on the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend, April 11-13. With KGC Construction as the primary sponsor highlighted on the nitro Funny Car. The team is primed for a thrilling performance as they look to make a statement during the first of three four-wide races this year.
“We’re feeling confident heading into the Four-Wide Nationals,” said Hull, who has increasingly made a name for himself in the Funny Car category. “We worked out some kinks with the car at the Winternationals a couple of weeks ago in Pomona, and we’re ready to go up against another crowded and competitive Funny Car field in Vegas. It’s really promising for the health of the Funny Car class when every race has 19-20 cars that all have the capability of qualifying. It makes every day of the race exciting for fans.”
The Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals are always an exhilarating spectacle, with four drivers competing at once across the track’s unique four-lane layout. This unique format not only tests drivers’ reaction times and strategy but also makes for some of the most thrilling racing of the season. With the NHRA Carolina Nationals, an important Countdown race, transitioning into a four-wide race, it’s now even more important for teams to collect as much four-wide data as possible during the regular season. BUDDY HULL PUSHING PAST POMONA
POMONA, CA – The 65th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip proved to be one of the most
competitive Funny Car qualifying fields that has ever been seen. Out of a crowded 19-car field, they were only one car away from history being made, with all 16 cars that qualified for Sunday making 3-second runs. Buddy Hull, the driver for Jim Dunn Racing, wanted to be the final piece of that historic puzzle, but it wasn’t quite in the cards this weekend.
“Overall, we had a good weekend,” said Hull. “The unfortunate side was our race car did not make it down the track, A to B successfully. It was tough because the conditions were so good. The track and air was incredible. It offered up a situation where every run had to be throwdown. We wanted to be one of the 15 cars that made a 3-second run, but we’re just not there yet. We were very close and everyone is working very hard. These race cars are just very tough sometimes when the conditions are exceptional. Everyone who got into race day definitely earned it.”
Hull had to battle through qualifying, with his best run coming during the fourth session, when he made a 4.340 second, 280.31 MPH pass. This unfortunately was not enough for him to qualify on race day. He made the best of the situation on Sunday when he joined Jason Galvin and David Freiburger in the announcing booth during the first round of Funny Car eliminations. Continue reading
HULL READY TO MAKE HISTORY AT THE WINTERNATIONALS WITH JIM DUNN RACING AND MOONEYES
LONG BEACH, CA – The 65th rendition of the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals is a historic occasion, made even more historic by the
NHRA’s upcoming 75th anniversary. But legendary Funny Car team owner Jim Dunn and longtime partner Mooneyes will be hitting that 75th milestone first, and they’ll begin celebrating it this weekend, March 27-30. Driver for Jim Dunn Racing, Buddy Hull, now in his second Funny Car season, is looking forward to representing the team on such an important weekend.
“It’s an honor and a blessing in so many ways to be able to represent Jim Dunn Racing and Mooneyes,” said Hull. “I’m going to put those guys in the forefront to make sure that they get their showing in Pomona. Jim’s shop is just 15 minutes away from the track, and with Mooneyes there and Jim’s 50th anniversary car on display, it’s going to be cool. Jim treats me really well, and he’s taught me a whole lot. He and I work well together – we speak the same language. To drive for him is just the absolute best.”
The Winternationals is the third race out of 20 in the 2025 Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season, so all the teams and drivers are still getting back into the swing of things. The first two races of the year included rain and extreme heat, so this race will be the first where teams will hopefully get to experience more normal conditions. Despite the challenges that the weather has presented, Hull feels good about the trajectory of his performance. Continue reading
