Bracket Races
K&N SPRING FLING – FRIDAY RESULTS
Benson, NC – Yesterday’s rain forced officials to double up JEGS Thursday and Wiseco Saturday’s races making it one race for $50,000-to-
win. However, that forced only two rounds of eliminations to be completed yesterday with the balance to be finished today. After completion, the Strange Engineering Friday $100,000-to-win race began.
First up though was the Spring Fling Reaction Time Challenge with 25 randomly selected drivers getting one “hit” at the ‘Tree. Any .0XX reaction time earned a $100 bill with a perfect .000 RT getting $1,000. No one was eligible for the $1,000, but six drivers; Carl Drake, Clayton Roberts, Jason Hoff, Colby Fuller, Pete D’Agnolo and Cory Gulitti; all picked up a fresh hundred.
With eliminations continuing down to round seven of the combined race, the survivors were Ernie Humes, Wes Weaver, Marty Dabney, Josh Luedke, Jeff Serra, Mark Siegel, Jeff Taylor, Severn Johnson and Tuesday’s Dragster Shootout winner Hunter Patton. With nine cars left for round seven, Weaver received the bye run to move into the quarterfinals.
K&N SPRING FLING – THURSDAY RESULTS
Benson, NC – With three days left of high-dollar bracket racing at the K&N Spring Fling GALOT presented by Optima Batteries, Mother
Nature has been disruptive. With a questionable forecast for the remaining three days, co-promoters Pete Biondo and Kyle Seipel chose to make a schedule change.
“Our goal is to always provide an experience for our racers that is second to none,” said co-promoter Pete Biondo. “After careful consideration of the probability of some weather
over the coming days, we have made the decision to combine the JEG’s $25,000 Thursday and the Wiseco Powersports $25,000 Saturday race. All of the prize money, round money and round prizes will be doubled.
“Racers,” added Biondo, have made the commitment to come race with us, and we have made the commitment to provide all of the purse and prizes to our races as advertised. Although we do anticipate some interruptions for weather over the next few days, we feel confident that we will be able to complete both the combined $50,000 race, and the Strange Engineering $100,000 main event by Saturday night, with the option to use Sunday if necessary. We have a full staff and the best track drying equipment available including a Jet Dryer. If or when any weather hits, it will be all hands on deck.”
K&N SPRING FLING – TUESDAY RESULTS
Benson, NC – And so it came to pass, after weeks of social distancing and mask wearing, the fourth edition of the K&N Spring Fling GALOT
presented by Optima Batteries opened up to a Test & Tune session today followed by a limited field of racers in the Super Tuesday American Race Cars/Race Tech Dragster Shootout.
“We’re thrilled to get back to providing our customers, who are all our friends, with the experience and excitement our Fling racers have come to expect,” said co-promoter Peter Biondo. As hot as the heat and humidity was today, it almost feels like a Summer Fling but that doesn’t come off the tongue as easily.”
Due to the events of our day and whatever the “new normal” might be, co-promoters Biondo and Kyle Seipel, along with the staff at GALOT Motorsports Park in North Carolina have instituted a number of changes to streamline and make the event as safe as possible for everyone attending.
Thirty-two racers threw down money to be a part of the Super Tuesday Dragster Shootout for the chance at either a new American Race Cars or Race Tech dragster awarded to bot finalists. After two rounds of racing the survivors moving into the quarterfinal round to be paired up on a ladder were Mike “Snap” Nahill, Hunter Patton, Andy Lloyd, Bryson Scruggs, Tony Brewer, Gary Williams, Ken Batchelor and Cory Gulitti.
SPARCO FALL FLING 500K ATI FRIDAY RESULTS
Bristol, TN – This is the day everyone has waited for. The build-up has been phenomenal. Almost two years in the
making and it was finally here. ATI Friday. In the biggest and most exciting race of the Fling brand of bracket racing, the Sparco Fall Fling 500K presented by Optima Batteries main event was set to take place.
More than ten years ago, co-promoters Peter Biondo and Kyle Seipel dreamt about the concept of the type of race they themselves would like to race at. That concept took hold at Bristol Dragway ten years ago with the first Fling race and as part of the ten year celebration, Biondo and Seipel chose to do something really special. Giving back to their customers was key and with that began what will be the biggest payday in Fling history when one lucky racer walked away with a half-million dollar check. A one-time happening that rocked the bracket racing world.
A third round win today earns not only the chance to continue on toward the largest payout in Fling history, but at the very least, a loss in the following round earns the racer $750. With the overall success of the event, Biondo and Seipel wanted to make it even that much more special and decided to add to the purse. “We could have easily added to the top prize of $500,000 but in an effort to affect the most people,” said Biondo, “we chose for today’s race to add to the purse by rewarding all second round winners with a $500 check. We have been so fortunate to have the support of so many and cannot thank all who have supported our brand of Fling events enough.”
SPARCO FALL FLING 500K FST WEDNESDAY RESULTS
Bristol, TN – With first a “family photo” of the Fling and Bristol Dragway staff celebrating ten years of Fling racing in
Bristol, FST Wednesday got underway for the Sparco Fall Fling 500K presented by Optima Batteries. The first big prize of the weekend, a $30,000-to-win day began with a single time trial; the only one of the week; for all competitors. From today forward, all competitors go directly to eliminations each day. With the pre-entered field in attendance, part of the Fling experience is ensuring the races are completed in a timely fashion.
In a somewhat unusual occurrence in bracket racing circles, Fling co-promoters Peter Biondo and Kyle Seipel chose to limit the event to single entries only, with no double-entering of drivers/cars. In what may possibly be the only big bracket racing in the country today, single entries dates back to the old Moroso 5-Day Bracket Championships. Obviously the bracket racing world embraced the concept as pre-entries were sold out in a matter of minutes when the pre-entry list opened back in March.
Round six and 13 cars remained; Danny Waters Jr., Justin Vickers, Phillip Pennington, David Davis, JR Lobner, Luke Bogacki, Aaron Gee, Shawn Langdon, Bryan Robinson, Colby Fuller, Tim Thomas, Don Hansen and Shane Carr. With each placed on the elimination ladder, the survivors were Thomas, Langdon, Bogacki, Robinson, Carr and the door cars of Vickers and Pennington.
FALL FLING 500K DAY 1 RESULTS
Bristol, TN – Bright sunshine and hot temperatures greeted a long line of racers waiting to get in Bristol Dragway for
Day 1 of the 10th anniversary of the Fling brand of bracket races. The largest paying and most exciting of the Fling brand, the Sparco Fall Fling 500K presented by Optima Batteries will award one winning racer a guaranteed $500,000 in Friday’s ATI main event. Three separate side races will be held FST Wednesday, Hansen Thursday and JEGS Saturday.
Schedule for today as has been the tradition for Day 1 at each of the Fling races included a Test & Tune session along with the American Race Cars/Race Tech Dragster Shootout with a limited field of 32 racers vying for a spot in the final round. Both finalists receive a new dragster with winner having first choice.
With eight cars left in the quarterfinals, the remaining competitors were Robert DiMino, Chad Axford, Shane Maddox, Tim Markoglu, Jason Lynch, Derek Denny, Chris Sons and Jake Woodring.
SPRING FLING TUESDAY DRAGSTER SHOOTOUT RESULTS
For the third year, the K&N Spring Fling presented by Optima Batteries has made its presence known at Galot
Motorsports Park in North Carolina. A pre-entered field of racers flocked to the gorgeous track which began life in 1957 as Dunn-Benson Drag Strip. GALOT Racing owner Earl Wells purchased the track in 2013 and completely renovated the facility raising it to one of the finest in the country.
Super Tuesday opened up with tech inspection and a Test & Tune session along with the Race Tech/American Race Cars Dragster Shootout where a limited field of 32 racers vied for a brand-new car for both the winner and runner-up, with the winner receiving his first choice of which brand.
Turn on four win lights to make it to the final round and you have yourself a new car. Those which had so far had turned on two win lights to make it to the ladder round of eight, were the door cars of Chad Duke, Jeff Verdi and Bug McCarty with the dragsters of Kevin Brannon, Cody McDaniel, Nick Folk, Shane Carr and John Labbous.
K&N SPRING FLING MILLION DOLLAR RESULTS
LAS VEGAS – The day arrived. Maytag/Silverstate Refrigeration Million Dollar Friday, the main event of the K&N Spring Fling
Million presented by Optima Batteries. A day which will certainly change the life of one person.
This being Vegas, what better “casino” to place a bet than The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and first up today was the Brodix Run For The $50,000. For a $50 “bet,” place a dial-in on your car, “pull the handle,” leave the starting line with a perfect .000 reaction time and run dead-on your dial with a “0” gets you a perfect run and a $50,000 check. If no perfect runs are recorded, the best package earns that driver a set of Brodix SR20 cylinder heads. Second place gets a $2,000 check and third place a free entry into the 2020 Spring Fling Million main event. If no one hits the $50K perfect run, the first perfect run in Friday’s elimination will earn that driver $20,000.
No perfect runs but Sean Page used a two-thousandths package to take home the set of Brodix cylinder heads. Cassie Pennington and Wes Anderson tied for second with a “five-pack” to respectively take home $2,000 in cash and a free 2020 Spring Fling Million Friday entry.
Biondo & Seipel’s Spring Fling to add a Third Event in 2017
For the past seven years, Peter Biondo and Kyle Seipel’s Spring Fling brand of bracket races have consistently over-
delivered and provided racers with the best experience any racer could ask for. Yet it seemed like, after each action-packed event, racers were always wanting for more of the same. For the past few years the co-promoters have quietly searched high and low for the right facility and time of year with the premise of expanding the Spring Fling brand to a third event.
“When our racers come into a Spring Fling event, they are expecting a one-of-a-kind experience at a premier facility,” Biondo explained. “So, Kyle and I have searched high and low for the right facility and time of year and have put a ‘Fling schedule and payout structure in place for 2017 that I think racers are going to love.”
