FALL FLING at GALOT DAY 1 RESULTS

Dunn, NC – Day 1, Rob’s Automotive Test & Tune Tuesday of the Sparco Fall Fling presented by Optima Batteries opened up at GALOT Motorsports Park in North Carolina. On tap was a Test & Tune session followed by the American Race Cars/Race Tech Dragster Shootout. A random field of 32 racers signed up for a chance at either an American Race Cars or Race Tech dragster. The two finalists would race with the winner getting his or her choice, while the runner-up takes what’s left over; not a bad prize in itself. The two semifinalists earned $500.

Eight drivers left after round two: Hunter Patton, Troy Williams Jr., Kevin Glenn, Steven Morrison II, Chaz Silance, Bernie Elmer, Dale Taylor and Gary Williams.

Round three and all drivers on the ladder, first up was brother versus brother, the Williams boys with brother Gary taking the reaction time advantage for the win. Next up was Patton; who has done so much winning this year including winning the Dragster Shootout earlier this year at the GALOT Spring Fling; moving on by defeating the door car of Glenn. Taylor picked the wrong time to have a .095 RT allowing Silance to move on. Finally, the last remaining door car of Ulmer went down in defeat to advance Morrison.

The Fall Fling is next on the 2020 Big Dollar Bracket Schedule

Dunn, NC – The next two weeks are going to be pretty exciting for the hundreds of racers who will be attending the Sparco Fall Fling at GALOT Motorsports Park in North Carolina, followed by the next week when the K&N Spring Fling Million will take place at Bristol Dragway in Tennessee.

The original Fling schedule became another victim to the pandemic requiring co-promoters Pete Biondo and Kyle Seipel to scramble in order to continue the tradition of promoting high dollar events which have become so popular in the bracket racing world.

“We had been working closely with our partner tracks to come up with a game plan for our Fall events,” explained Biondo. “After discussing our options and realizing the commitment we have to our racers and sponsors, we have come up with the best plan which will come to fruition in the next two weeks.”

That plan was announced several months ago which involved the Fall Fling, that has been run normally in Bristol, to move it to GALOT a week earlier than it was originally scheduled. The K&N Spring Fling Million has always been contested at The Strip At Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Due to restrictions in that state, it was decided to move the Spring Fling Million to Bristol Dragway the week following the GALOT event. That makes for two pretty exciting and busy weeks in a row. Each event name, sponsors, structure, and guaranteed purses will all remain the same.

Biondo and Seipel Announce Revised Fling Event Schedule for 2020

With the K&N Spring Fling Galot presented by Optima in the rear-view mirror, co-promoters, Peter Biondo and Kyle Seipel, have been diligently trying to piece together their remaining 2020 event schedule.

“We have been working closely with our partner tracks to come up with a game plan for our Fall events,” explained Biondo. “After discussing our options and realizing the commitment we have to our racers and sponsors, we decided it was time to put a plan in place. This is exciting stuff and I think racers will be pumped up to hear what we have planned.”

Perhaps the biggest news starts with the move of the previously scheduled K&N Spring Fling Million event, which was set to happen in April at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This event will now take place at Bristol Dragway on September 28 through October 3, taking the place of the previously scheduled Fall Fling at Bristol. The event name, sponsors, structure, and guaranteed purses will all remain the same.

“We needed to set a date so racers can plan for what is our biggest Fling event of the year,” said Seipel. “Jeff Foster and the LVMS team could not give us a specific date until they got a clearer picture of their Fall schedule at LVMS. We are excited! Unlike our other Fling events this event has a progressive purse and allows gate entries. It could very well end up being our biggest Spring Fling Million ever.”

K&N SPRING FLING – FRIDAY RESULTS

Benson, NC – Yesterday’s rain forced officials to double up JEGS Thursday and Wiseco Saturday’s races making it one race for $50,000-to-win. However, that forced only two rounds of eliminations to be completed yesterday with the balance to be finished today. After completion, the Strange Engineering Friday $100,000-to-win race began.

First up though was the Spring Fling Reaction Time Challenge with 25 randomly selected drivers getting one “hit” at the ‘Tree. Any .0XX reaction time earned a $100 bill with a perfect .000 RT getting $1,000. No one was eligible for the $1,000, but six drivers; Carl Drake, Clayton Roberts, Jason Hoff, Colby Fuller, Pete  D’Agnolo and Cory Gulitti; all picked up a fresh hundred.

With eliminations continuing down to round seven of the combined race, the survivors were Ernie Humes, Wes Weaver, Marty Dabney, Josh Luedke, Jeff Serra, Mark Siegel, Jeff Taylor, Severn Johnson and Tuesday’s Dragster Shootout winner Hunter Patton. With nine cars left for round seven, Weaver received the bye run to move into the quarterfinals.

K&N SPRING FLING – THURSDAY RESULTS

Benson, NC – With three days left of high-dollar bracket racing at the K&N Spring Fling GALOT presented by Optima Batteries, Mother Nature has been disruptive. With a questionable forecast for the remaining three days, co-promoters Pete Biondo and Kyle Seipel chose to make a schedule change.

“Our goal is to always provide an experience for our racers that is second to none,” said co-promoter Pete Biondo. “After careful consideration of the probability of some weather

over the coming days, we have made the decision to combine the JEG’s $25,000 Thursday and the Wiseco Powersports $25,000 Saturday race. All of the prize money, round money and round prizes will be doubled.

“Racers,” added Biondo, have made the commitment to come race with us, and we have made the commitment to provide all of the purse and prizes to our races as advertised. Although we do anticipate some interruptions for weather over the next few days, we feel confident that we will be able to complete both the combined $50,000 race, and the Strange Engineering $100,000 main event by Saturday night, with the option to use Sunday if necessary. We have a full staff and the best track drying equipment available including a Jet Dryer. If or when any weather hits, it will be all hands on deck.”

K&N SPRING FLING – TUESDAY RESULTS

Benson, NC – And so it came to pass, after weeks of social distancing and mask wearing, the fourth edition of the K&N Spring Fling GALOT presented by Optima Batteries opened up to a Test & Tune session today followed by a limited field of racers in the Super Tuesday American Race Cars/Race Tech Dragster Shootout.

“We’re thrilled to get back to providing our customers, who are all our friends, with the experience and excitement our Fling racers have come to expect,” said co-promoter Peter Biondo. As hot as the heat and humidity was today, it almost feels like a Summer Fling but that doesn’t come off the tongue as easily.”

Due to the events of our day and whatever the “new normal” might be, co-promoters Biondo and Kyle Seipel, along with the staff at GALOT Motorsports Park in North Carolina have instituted a number of changes to streamline and make the event as safe as possible for everyone attending.

Thirty-two racers threw down money to be a part of the Super Tuesday Dragster Shootout for the chance at either a new American Race Cars or Race Tech dragster awarded to bot finalists. After two rounds of racing the survivors moving into the quarterfinal round to be paired up on a ladder were Mike “Snap” Nahill, Hunter Patton, Andy Lloyd, Bryson Scruggs, Tony Brewer, Gary Williams, Ken Batchelor and Cory Gulitti.

SPARCO FALL FLING 500K ATI FRIDAY RESULTS

Bristol, TN – This is the day everyone has waited for. The build-up has been phenomenal. Almost two years in the making and it was finally here. ATI Friday. In the biggest and most exciting race of the Fling brand of bracket racing, the Sparco Fall Fling 500K presented by Optima Batteries main event was set to take place.

More than ten years ago, co-promoters Peter Biondo and Kyle Seipel dreamt about the concept of the type of race they themselves would like to race at. That concept took hold at Bristol Dragway ten years ago with the first Fling race and as part of the ten year celebration, Biondo and Seipel chose to do something really special. Giving back to their customers was key and with that began what will be the biggest payday in Fling history when one lucky racer walked away with a half-million dollar check. A one-time happening that rocked the bracket racing world.

A third round win today earns not only the chance to continue on toward the largest payout in Fling history, but at the very least, a loss in the following round earns the racer $750. With the overall success of the event, Biondo and Seipel wanted to make it even that much more special and decided to add to the purse. “We could have easily added to the top prize of $500,000 but in an effort to affect the most people,” said Biondo, “we chose for today’s race to add to the purse by rewarding all second round winners with a $500 check. We have been so fortunate to have the support of so many and cannot thank all who have supported our brand of Fling events enough.”

SPARCO FALL FLING 500K FST WEDNESDAY RESULTS

Bristol, TN – With first a “family photo” of the Fling and Bristol Dragway staff celebrating ten years of Fling racing in Bristol, FST Wednesday got underway for the Sparco Fall Fling 500K presented by Optima Batteries. The first big prize of the weekend, a $30,000-to-win day began with a single time trial; the only one of the week; for all competitors. From today forward, all competitors go directly to eliminations each day. With the pre-entered field in attendance, part of the Fling experience is ensuring the races are completed in a timely fashion.

In a somewhat unusual occurrence in bracket racing circles, Fling co-promoters Peter Biondo and Kyle Seipel chose to limit the event to single entries only, with no double-entering of drivers/cars. In what may possibly be the only big bracket racing in the country today, single entries dates back to the old Moroso 5-Day Bracket Championships. Obviously the bracket racing world embraced the concept as pre-entries were sold out in a matter of minutes when the pre-entry list opened back in March.

Round six and 13 cars remained; Danny Waters Jr., Justin Vickers, Phillip Pennington, David Davis, JR Lobner, Luke Bogacki, Aaron Gee, Shawn Langdon, Bryan Robinson, Colby Fuller, Tim Thomas, Don Hansen and Shane Carr. With each placed on the elimination ladder, the survivors were Thomas, Langdon, Bogacki, Robinson, Carr and the door cars of Vickers and Pennington.

For the third year, the K&N Spring Fling presented by Optima Batteries has made its presence known at Galot Motorsports Park in North Carolina.
