Alexander Seeking Continued Charlotte Success

CONCORD, NC – Funny Car driver Blake Alexander returns to zMax Dragway this weekend, where just a year ago the young nitro Blake Alexander Gainesville-BAR Photopilot raced to his first-ever Funny Car runner-up finish. Twelve months later, Blake still feels the excitement that came from his final round appearance.

“I’m confident that the Monroe Shocks team will have another strong outing at the Four-Wide race. I feel that I continued to improve as a driver over the last year since we went to the finals here. Combine that with all the data we have compiled with the set-up that was fairly new at this point in last year, and I think we have the potential to win more rounds here this year,” Alexander commented.

Funny Car Driver Alexander Looking for Better Performance at U.S. Nationals

CLERMONT, IN – A disappointing DNQ at Brainerd has Blake Alexander and his Auto Service Plus powered by Auto-Plus Funny Car Blake Alexander 2013 Headshotteam looking for answers. Performance issues plagued the team’s last outing – Blake’s first DNQ of 2013. The combination of veteran team and young driver will attempt to solve their problems at this weekend’s 59th Annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.
“We just need to try different things with the clutch. We took the car apart after we failed to qualify at Brainerd. I know that we have all of the right parts, we just need to learn how to apply them. Fortunately we get five qualifying runs to get everything in order,” Blake said. The U.S. Nationals is the only race on the NHRA Mello Yello Series tour that includes five Pro qualifying sessions instead of the typical four.
Some drivers might get caught up in the prestige surrounding the NHRA’s most historic event – the U.S. Nationals. Blake instead focuses on performing at his best to compete with the competitive field of entries at ‘The Big Go’.

Despite struggling in qualifying, the 24-year old Virginian turned on two win lights before falling to eventual race winner John Force.

Alexander’s best qualifying run of the weekend, 4.35, came during the Friday night session, but it wasn’t enough to place him in the top twelve to carry over to Saturday. His final pass during Q4 placed him No. 15, setting up a first round match with the reigning NHRA Funny Car champion, Jack Beckman.

“We were trying a few different things in qualifying. Sometimes you need to go slower to go faster, and obviously we went slower before progressing.
