Alexander Entering First of Two 2013 Events at Norwalk

NORWALK, OH – Racing in just his second season in the nitro-fueled Funny Car class, Virginia’s Blake Alexander has already reached Blake Alexander Gates Carone semifinal (Bristol) and a runner-up finish (Charlotte). As his Paul Smith-tuned Auto Service Plus powered by Auto-Plus Funny Car races into Norwalk, Ohio for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, Alexander and his team will be looking to build on their strong performances of late.

“It was nice to get consecutive round wins at our last two races. Hopefully we continue to make progress with the car. Some of the things we’ve been trying haven’t been working. In our pursuit to go faster, we’ve gone a bit slower. We need to get back to square one to get back to where we were towards the beginning of the season when we were qualifying well and winning rounds,” Blake said.

If the event is anything like it was last year, the track will be hot, slick, and hard to navigate – exactly the conditions Alexander’s crew chief can utilize to send Blake and the Auto Service Plus Charger deep into eliminations.

“Hopefully it stays hot throughout the weekend so we have a level playing field in qualifying and on Sunday. The Friday night run will be very important like it is at every event. As we get deeper into the warm summer races, the Friday night run becomes increasingly important for qualifying position. All of the other runs are important for working on our race day set-up,” Alexander said of his team’s approach to qualifying.

Summit Motorsports Park, America’s Racetrack, is known as one of the most popular facilities on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour, drawing in flocks of passionate motorsports fans. This weekend’s Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals is actually the first of two consecutive races at the Midwest facility.

“I’ve always enjoyed going to Norwalk, even when I was racing in the Sportsman ranks. I feel like the fans there know what’s going on – they’re very invested in the sport. Obviously the area is a great market for NHRA drag racing, with many passionate fans that come out to watch the races. The Bader family does a great job attracting fans and putting on a show for them. I’m truly looking forward to racing at Norwalk this weekend, as well as the Auto-Plus Night Under Fire match race in August,” claimed the driver of the Auto Service Plus Funny Car, one of four Funny Cars scheduled to race at Norwalk’s annual Night Under Fire event, August 10th.
