Funny Car’s Blake Alexander ‘Heading Home’ to Bristol
BRISTOL, TN – After suffering a streak of first round losses since his runner-up at Charlotte earlier this year, Funny Car driver Blake 
Alexander is confident that his Auto Service powered by Auto-Plus Funny Car will be back in winning form at this weekend’s Ford Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway. The team is still sorting through their improved parts and pieces and attempting to bring synergy to the new combination.
“We were trying a new clutch package at Atlanta and Englishtown that we thought would work much better. As we made more runs and acquired more data, we realized that it wasn’t going to work the way we anticipated. We’ve made the necessary changes since then to find the consistent car that we left in Charlotte,” said Alexander, racing in just his second season in the NHRA Funny Car class.
The 24-year old driver has added incentive to perform well at the facility he considers to be his home turf. A large group of supporters will be cheering him on, hoping to see the Auto Service Plus team race deep into eliminations on race day.
“Bristol is sort of my home race. This is where I used to race my Junior Dragster every weekend as a kid. It’s exciting for me to go back there now that I’m racing in the sport’s top class. I have a lot of friends, family, and customers from the area coming out to watch so it’ll be nice to have that support this weekend.”
Funny Car qualifying at the Ford Thunder Valley Nationals is scheduled for 6 and 8 PM Friday night, followed by two more sessions at 1:30 and 3:30 PM ET Saturday afternoon. Eliminations begin at noon on Sunday. ESPN2 will cover the event, beginning with qualifying coverage at 7 PM ET, Saturday, June 15th. Eliminations will air at 1 PM Sunday.
