NORWALK, OH – Two of the top competitors in the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) showed exactly why they  reign atop their respective classes at Saturday’s Summit Racing Equipment Ohio Drags IV.

Extreme Pro Stock driver Cary Goforth and Pro Extreme Motorcycle rider Ashley Owens both won for the second time in two nights to stay No. 1 in their divisions, capping off a memorable double-race weekend at Summit Motorsports Park.  “To get two wins is just really, really awesome,” said Goforth, who won Dragstock VII on Friday. “Awesome won’t even cover it. This is just wonderful. You always dream about something like this, but you don’t always get it.”

Two other drivers got a chance to celebrate for the first time in the ADRL, as Mick Snyder (Pro Extreme) and Jim Laurita (Pro Nitrous) both picked up their first career ADRL wins on Saturday.  Chuck Ulsch picked up his third win of the 2010 season in Extreme 10.5 and Morgan Benfield got the win in Pro Junior Dragster.

NORWALK, OH – Just moments after watching his son, Ty, win in Pro Junior Dragster at the completion of the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Simpson Dragstock VII on Friday, Todd Tutterow had only one thought before his Pro Extreme final.

I just knew I needed to do my job,” said Tutterow, the 2009 World Champion.

Tutterow followed suit, beating Joshua Hernandez with a 3.85 in the Pro Extreme final at Summit Motorsports Park to give the Tutterow family two memorable wins in one night.

“This is wonderful,” Tutterow said. “It is very special when you got your family with you for something like this.”

Other winners at Dragstock VII, which was completed on Friday after rain postponed the event two weeks ago in Rockingham, included Doug Riesterer (Pro Nitrous), Spiro Pappas (Extreme 10.5), Ashley Owens (Pro Extreme Motorcycle), Cary Goforth (Extreme Pro Stock) and Ty Tutterow (Pro Junior Dragster).

Rain Postpones Finish of ADRL Independence Drags IV at Heartland Park Topeka

Courtesy of ADRL

TOPEKA, KS — Inclement weather forced the postponement of the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Hardee’s Independence Drags IV at Heartland Park Topeka on Saturday.

After several rain delays throughout the day, ADRL President and CEO Kenny Nowling called for a postponement near the end of the first round of final eliminations.  “Mother Nature frowned on us and we felt the better option was to get the racers and fans home safely,” Nowling said. “Safety is paramount and unfortunately we can’t complete this event today.”

The event will be completed at the ADRL Hardee’s Gateway Drags III on August 7-8 at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill, just outside of St. Louis.

The completion of final eliminations of the Independence Drags will take place on Friday, with the Gateway Drags to be completed the next day.

Castellana One of Five Leaders at ADRL Hardee’s Independence Drags IV

TOPEKA, KS — Mike Castellana was simply looking for one good run in Pro Nitrous on Friday at the ADRL Hardee’s Independence Drags IV at Heartland Park Topeka. When that came on his very first run, Castellana delivered in an even bigger way to cap his evening under the lights. Castellana and his ’69 Camaro wowed the energetic crowd with his third qualifying run, staying in first after three sessions with a pass of 3.89 at 192.28 miles per hour.
It was significant that Castellana had two in a class where most drivers struggled to get one on a day where track conditions proved difficult to solve.

“I think we had a better handle on things,” Castellana said. “It was kind of hit-or-miss for a lot of people, but we’ve got a good handle on this car. When you got something good going, you don’t want to change too much.”
Other top qualifiers after Friday’s three sessions include Frankie Taylor in Pro Extreme, Ashley Owens in Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Pete Berner in Extreme Pro Stock and Todd Moyer in Extreme 10.5. Castellana’s solid performance on Friday gives him some breathing room heading into Saturday’s final qualifying session as well.

UNION, SOUTH CAROLINA — After a great weekend of racing at the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Summer Drags in Martin, Team Aruba, with the colorful Aruba.com Extreme Pro Stock car in tow, is on the long road to Heartland Park Topeka (HPT) race track for the ADRL Hardee’s Independence Drags IV. “The past few weeks have been intense,” says Team Aruba driver, Trevor Eman. “Since Martin, we’ve been working long days and nights preparing our car for the Topeka race.”

Team Aruba definitely has their work cut out for them, uncomfortably sitting 300 points behind 8th place. “It’s crunch time, and we’re hungrier than we’ve ever been,” comments Eman. “Time is quickly slipping away; we only have a few races left until the ADRL Finals. Our performance this weekend is crucial.” Team Aruba recently moved up a spot on the Extreme Pro Stock ladder, from 14th to 13th after good performances at the ADRL Ford Summer Drags just two weeks ago.

MARTIN, MI — The added pressure, expectations and attention that comes with landing a new major sponsor seems to have brought out the best in Josh Hernandez.

A race after advancing to the final in Richmond while debuting his new Fight Me MMA sponsorship, Hernandez and his ’57 Chevy took it a step further on Saturday, winning in Pro Extreme at the ADRL Ford Drive One Summer Drags VI at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, MI.

“To come out with a new sponsor and within two races have a win, that’s what we’re in it for,” Hernandez said. “To be in that winner’s circle, nothing makes me happier.

“I’m so happy for my guys. This is what we’ve been waiting for.”

It’s the seventh career win for Hernandez, but just the first this year in a loaded division.

UNION, SC — Team Aruba is back on the long road to Martin, Michigan to compete in the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Ford Drive One Summer Drags VI this weekend at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park.

After a two-week break, the team is eager to get back on the eighth-mile track, with plans to make a stop in Ohio to test and prepare the Aruba.com pro stock racecar prior to this Friday’s qualifier rounds. “We’re going to stop in Norwalk to test our car,” says Team Aruba driver, Trevor Eman. “We haven’t been on the track since the ADRL event in Virginia a few weeks back, so we are very ready to race.”

Regarding the team’s performance this season, Team Aruba is hungry for a race victory. “We know we can perform better. We have a good, powerful car,” Eman comments. “We just need to fine tune our weak points and we’ll be back on track.” The ADRL Summer Drags is the fifth event this season towards the 2010 ADRL World Finals, held at Texas Motorplex in late October. “For now, we have our sights set on qualifying for the ‘ADRL Battle for the Belts’ race this year,” Eman says. “Our team is determined and dedicated to working our hardest to be there.”

Goforth Racing Post Race Wrap Up

Courtesy of Goforth Racing

Holdenville OK – Goforth Racing has had a couple busy weeks of racing, competing in both MMPSA at MIR, and going directly to the ADRL event in Virginia. The MMPSA event didn’t turn out the way we hoped, with Cary qualifying in the #5 Spot and Dean in the #7 position. “We really wanted to do well at this event to move up in the points, sometimes its just not our weekend” Goforth said.

Having already committed to running two races in the same area it made sense for us to travel straight from the MIR MMPSA event to Virginia Motorsports Park for the ADRL event. It makes for a long time away from home, but makes sense financially to stay in the area. The team wanted to have a good showing at ADRL and extend Cary’s points lead.

Team Aruba Determined to Earn First Victory After VMP Performance

Courtesy of Team Arruba

UNION, SC — “Virginia Motorsports Park?Hello from Aruba!” A nice and sunny weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park (VMP) proved to be a beautiful racing weekend. Team Aruba’s driver, Trevor Eman happily said, “It feels like we are racing in Aruba!”

As always, Team Aruba’s pit area is a reflection of the island Aruba and the Aruban People. “We’re having fun, but the weekend is not over yet. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and we have to do well to be in the show with the other 19 Mountain Motor Pro Stock teams,” says Eman, a full-time college student and the youngest Mountain Motor Pro Stock driver. “Let’s go racing…And a warm ‘Hello’ from Aruba!”

VMP hosted nice weather and even nicer people. These conditions must have really worked, because Trevor did a first qualifying run of 4.10 seconds as the third pair out. “We came pretty close to beating our career-best elapsed time,” says Trevor, who was only a hundredth and a half seconds off of his best ET. “We were at the 60-foot mark in 0.984 seconds; not a bad first run.”
