Team JEGS racer Brown to be Crowned as track champion

HEBRON, OH – Team JEGS driver Makenna Brown will be among the track champions recognized as National Trail Raceway holds its annual awards banquet on Jan. 28.
Brown won the 2011 JEGS Junior Dragster 2 class title at National Trail by a single point over Nicholas Altenbach, the previous year’s track champ. In all, Brown won a tight, four-car championship battle with late-season consistency. She ended the year with three wins and a runner-up finish in 13 starts.
The highly attended banquet will be held at Creative Catering in Hebron.

Jeg Coughlin Jr.’s return picked as Mopar’s No. 1 moment of 2011

DELAWARE, OH – The New Year is a time to both look back on the past and look ahead to the possibilities the next 12 months can hold, and it appears Mopar had those thoughts in mind when it compiled a list of 2011 highlights.
For its No. 1 moment of the year, Mopar selected its November announcement detailing a new NHRA Pro Stock alliance with five-time world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr and JEGS.
“In all honesty, I was shocked and honored when I heard the news. Mopar-backed cars won a lot of races and championships in many racing series during 2011, so I’m humbled that they think so highly of what we’re doing with the JEGS.com Dodge Avenger,” said Coughlin.
The announcement marks a return to the Pro Stock class by Coughlin after a one-year hiatus. It’s also a return to the Mopar fold for Coughlin, who has a long history with the brand. Coughlin captured the 2004 U.S. Nationals Mopar HEMI Challenge event win driving a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda, raced a Mopar HEMI-powered Dodge Pro Stock car during the 2005 NHRA season and currently owns and competes in Sportsman events in a Mopar Challenger Drag Pak.
2012 Division 3 North Stars Summit Pro-Am Schedule

Norwalk, OH – The 2012 Division 3 North Stars Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am tour will feature four double race weekends and one single claim weekend. 
The North Stars Summit Pro-Am tour will open at Pittsburgh Raceway Park the weekend of June 1-3 in conjunction with the Nitro Jam weekend. The new Nitro Jam structure will include a test and tune on Friday followed by a Nitro Jam professional show later that night. Saturday will feature the first of two Summit Pro-Am points races and will act as the Summit Tournament of Champions qualifier for the weekend.
The second Nitro Jam professional show later that night will feature the final rounds of sportsman competition in front of a packed house with winners earning a berth into the year-end championship tournament. Sunday will wrap up the race weekend with a second Summit Pro-Am race. As a staple in northern drag racing, the Tedesco family has responded year after year to larger and larger Pro-Am tour events with an ever-growing facility. The facelift continues in the pre-season as the facility looks toward more renovations both on and off the track to prepare for the 2012 Summit Pro-Am tour once again.
Bergstrom Expands Role, Huey Dewitt Joins ProMedia Team

Santa Ana, CA – ProMedia announced today that Gene Bergstrom will be expanding his role by assuming the duties of General Manager of the NMCA WEST Coast Street Car Series, sponsored by Flowmaster Exhaust Systems. Bergstrom
will continue to serve as director of event operations for the NMRA and NMCA but also will now assume the responsibility of leading as well as overseeing ProMedia’s west coast division as general manager effective immediately stated NMCA WEST president, Charlie Harmon.
“Gene’s west coast experience as a racer, track operator, NHRA division director and executive will serve him well in his additional capacity,” Harmon said.
Bergstrom spent 21-years as an employee of the NHRA, in a variety of positions including serving as the northwest regional director for a decade, followed by serving as director of field operations for the NHRA. Bergstrom has also managed several racetracks throughout his long career.

Inaugural Summer Showdown set for June 8-9 at US 131 Motorsports Park

MARTIN, MI – US 131 Motorsports Park will be celebrating its 50th year of operation in 2012, and the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series will be part of those celebrations.
The three popular drag racing series will race at the south-western Michigan track June 8-9, for the second event on the 2012 calendar.
The race at US 131 Motorsports Park, to be known as the Summer Showdown, will be the first for the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, or the PBSS.
“We’re very excited in going to US 131 Motorsports Park,” said Bruce Mehlenbacher, Director of Operations for the three Series. “This is our first time in Michigan, and US 131 is a perfect fit for our three Series. Not only will it give each Series and its teams a chance to showcase in a new market, but also an opportunity for new competitors to tryout our Series. Michigan is a hot-bed of serious and very competitive race teams.”

ADRL Releases 2012 General Regulations With Updated Rainout, Participation Points Policies

O’FALLON, MO – With a new rainout and participation points policy, along with several additional changes, the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) officially released its 2012 General Regulations on Tuesday.
The 2012 ADRL Tour starts on March 30-31 with Dragpalooza VIII at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston, the first of 10 events on the 2012 ADRL schedule.
