World champion Jeg Jr. to star at JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals
Auto Club Dragway are in for a special treat with five-time world champion drag racer Jeg Coughlin Jr. set to compete in Super Comp and Super Gas.
One of the top 10 drag racers of all time, Coughlin is on a sabbatical from professional competition and is using his down time to return to his first love of Sportsman racing.
“If we could figure out a path to the winner’s circle it would be very special for me,” Coughlin said. “Not only are we proud sponsors of the event, but I know from many years of racing out here just how hard it is to win one of these things.
“A trophy from the JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals would hold a high place of honor in my house. It’s every bit as hard, if not harder, to win a race in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series as it is on the Full Throttle tour and the feeling of accomplishment is unreal.”
“These events mean a great deal to Sportsman racers, every bit as much as a national event means to a pro driver,” Coughlin said. “There are lots of people that race at this level full-time so the pressure to perform is every bit as high as it is in the pro ranks.
“I’m excited to see all my west coast buddies and I’m sure there will be a great crowd on hand. Southern California is the birthplace of drag racing and there are always lots of great fans that come out.”
Coughlin will race his JEGS.com Super Comp dragster and JEGS.com Super Gas Corvette Roadster at the event. Both cars are capable of carrying him many rounds on race day.
“I know the cars are tuned up and ready to go,” Coughlin said. “I’ll need to be on my toes right from the start. We will use the first few passes in time trials to get the car dialed in and I’ll be working on my driving to make sure I can limit my mistakes. If we can do that on race day, we’ll have a chance.”
