LARIS MOTORSPORTS INSURANCE CAJUN NHRA SPORTSNATIONALS POSTPONED TO MAY 3-5 AT NO PROBLEM RACEWAY

BELLE ROSE, LA – Due to inclement weather conditions, the NHRA announced today that the Laris Motorsports Insurance Cajun NHRA SPORTSnationals has been postponed to May 3-5 at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, La.

The prestigious race for drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series was initially scheduled for this weekend, but recent weather and the pending upcoming weekend conditions led to the postponement until May to allow for a better racer experience.

“The Cajun SPORTSnationals and No Problem Raceway are committed to giving our racers the best possible experience, both on and off the track,” No Problem Raceway Owner Nelson Hoyos said. “Unfortunately, Mother Nature isn’t cooperating this weekend, but we look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Bayou on May 3-5 for a one-of-kind event.”

The Laris Motorsports Insurance Cajun NHRA SPORTSnationals gives racers a second SPORTSnationals event in 2024, with the JEGS SPORTSnationals taking place on July 10-11. The event will offer more than $150,000 to race teams in eight different categories from all seven NHRA divisions, which includes more than $50,000 in contingency offerings. Competitors will also be able to enjoy a unique atmosphere that will celebrate all the exciting distinctions of Cajun culture.

LARIS MOTORSPORTS INSURANCE CAJUN NHRA SPORTSNATIONALS SET FOR RETURN TO NO PROBLEM RACEWAY

BELLE ROSE, LA – The NHRA is pleased to announce the return of the Laris Motorsports Insurance Cajun NHRA SPORTSnationals, a prestigious race for drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series that will take place on March 15-17 at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, La.

Featuring the classic crawfish artwork from the 1978 NHRA Cajun Nationals, the race will be the first Laris Motorsports Insurance Cajun NHRA SPORTSnationals since the 2015 season. It will take place over three days, giving racers a second SPORTSnationals event in 2024, with the JEGS SPORTSnationals taking place on July 10-13.

Hundreds of sportsman racers from all seven NHRA divisions across the country will return to No Problem Raceway for the Cajun NHRA SPORTSnationals this year, with racing taking place in eight different categories. The event will offer more than $150,000 to the race teams, which includes more than $50,000 in contingency offerings. Competitors will also be able to enjoy a unique atmosphere that will celebrate all the exciting distinctions of Cajun culture, making it a special weekend to remember for everyone involved.

JEGS SPEEDWEEK CONTINUES AT NATIONAL TRAIL RACEWAY

HEBRON, OH – JEGS Speedweek marches on at National Trail Raceway, with action-packed racing from the NHRA Sportsman Drag Racing. JEGS Speedweek hosts a doubleheader weekend with the JEGS SPORTSnationals specialty event followed by a Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, giving the country’s best Sportsman racers twice as many chances to win and earn points.

Wednesday saw a track-operated open test-n-tune and shootouts for Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street as well as a Stock/Super Stock Combo Gamblers. The schedule will shift to the annual JEGS SPORTSnationals on Thursday and Friday, closing with the North Central Division Lucas Oil event Saturday and Sunday.

Fields are set for first JEGS SPORTSnationals contested at New England Dragway

EPPING, NH – After a fast-and-furious day of qualifying, the elimination fields for the JEGS SPORTSnationals have been set at historic New England Dragway. The event marks the first time a JEGS SPORTSnationals race has been contested in the NHRA’s Northeast Division, and nearly 400 sportsman racers have packed the facility in a strong show of support.

Heading into Sunday’s final eliminations, Frank Aragona Jr. (Comp), Scott Gove (Super Stock), Eric Merryfield (Stock), Michael Lubniesski (Top Sportsman) and Mike Coughlin (Top Dragster) lead their respective fields. Racers, including those in Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street, also made time trial runs Saturday before completing the first round of eliminations.

Aragona is the three-time and reigning NHRA Comp world champion. He drove his J/AA roadster to a 7.388-second run to claim the top spot over Ronald Proctor and Richard Schonberger. Aragona was a semifinal finisher in the Northeast Division Lucas Oil Series event held Friday at New England Dragway.

JEGS SPORTSnationals set for first stop at historic New England Dragway

EPPING, NH – Just weeks after the successful conclusion of JEGS Speedweek at National Trail Raceway, the popular JEGS SPORTSnationals will make its first stop in the Northeast this Thursday-Sunday at historic New England Dragway.

The event, which will be run in conjunction with an NHRA Division 1 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, will crown champions in eight different classes: Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster, and Top Sportsman. Established in 1974 at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky., the SPORTSnationals has become a popular showcase for NHRA’s best sportsman drag racers. Over the last 46 years, the event has made stops in Denver, Indianapolis, Houston, Las Vegas, Fontana, Calif., Hebron, Ohio, and Belle Rose, La.

At the recent JEGS Speedweek race at National Trail Raceway, sportsman star Anthony Bertozzi made history by winning a record fifth JEGS SPORTSnationals title. Bertozzi won the Top Dragster title by beating the JEGS.com dragster of Mike Coughlin in the final.

Terry Smith, Dan Steed, Jeff Taylor headline nine JEGS SPORTSnationals champions

HEBRON, OJ – Terry Smith, Dan Steed, and Jeff Taylor headlined the nine champions crowned today at the JEGS SPORTSnationals at National Trail Raceway. Smith earned the title in Comp Eliminator, Steed picked up his first NHRA national event win in Super Stock and Taylor won Stock for his 46th career victory.

Other champions crowned at the prestigious event, which showcases NHRA’s Lucas Oil Series sportsman drivers, include Ed Jirousek (Super Comp), Scott Deffenbaugh (Super Gas), Jim Unum (Super Street), Scott Wasko (Top Sportsman), Danny Nelson (Top Dragster), and Michael Nash (Sportsman Motorcycle).

Smith earned the Comp when he defeated Brian Browell in an all-dragster Comp final. Smith previously won the 2016 St. Louis race.

Steed earned his trophy by stopping Matt Morris, driving his ’66 Chevy Nova to a perfect 10.52 elapsed time on a 10.52 dial-in. Morris broke-out with a 9.89 on his 9.92 prediction.

World champs Isenhower and Connolly earn Shootout titles at JEGS SPORTSnationals

HEBRON, OH – Ray Connolly and Devin Isenhower, a pair of former NHRA world champions, displayed their talents Saturday at the JEGS SPORTSnationals at National Trail Raceway with victories in the special K&N Super Shootout races. Connolly won the Super Gas class while Isenhower earned the Super Comp title. They were joined in the winner’s circle by Paul Brown, who earned the Super Shootout title in Super Street.

Isenhower, the reigning Super Gas champion, turned his attention to Super Comp this year and emerged with a victory with an 8.93 to 8.91 holeshot win over Chuck Ridenhour in the final round.

Connolly earned the win in Super Gas in his ’63 Corvette when he drove past Mike Jirousek in the final, 9.93 to a 9.88. Both drivers were driving ’63 Corvette roadsters.

Brown drove his Dodge Dart to the Super Street title with a close 10.867 to 10.860 win over Brandon Dutton. The Super Shootout events were open to the top eight qualifiers in each of the NHRA “Super Class” categories.

Rampy, Jacobs and McNeish take early qualifying leads at JEGS SPORTSnationals

HEBRON, OH – David Rampy, Dan Jacobs, and Jerry McNiesh were the quickest qualifiers in Comp, Super Stock, and Stock, respectively, after the opening day of qualifying for the JEGS SPORTSnationals.

National Trail Raceway has been in operation since 1964, and with new ownership and management, the facility has undergone multiple improvements over the past two years, inviting racers back to “The Super Strip” for an exciting weekend of NHRA Sportsman Drag Racing. The event features Sportsman racers from across the country and a purse of more than $108,000,

Rampy, of Piedmont, Ala., is the most successful racer in the history of the Comp Eliminator class and one of just four drag racers to collect 100 national event victories. He quickly established thepace here by driving his ’32 Bantam roadster to a 7.248-second elapsed time (0.572 second under the index). Rampy leads a competitive field that also includes national event winners Brian Browell, Lee Zane and Greg Kamplain.

Jacobs, of Elizabeth, Ind., drove his ’05 Chevy Cavalier to a 9.241, which was quick enough to take the pole in Super Stock over Russ Campbell, Ronnie Terrell and Bill Rink, who are the top four qualifiers in the strong 78-car field. Comp low qualifier Rampy is also a top contender in Super Stock after driving his Chevy Camaro to the No. 6 spot.

WINNERS CROWNED AT JEGS SPORTSNATIONALS

BOWLING GREEN, KY – Chase Williams led the list of nine winners who were crowned JEGS SPORTSnationals Champions in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Beech Bend Raceway Park.

Williams meet up with David Rampy in the Comp Eliminator final and drilled the tree with a .001 second reaction time propelling him to the win in 6.819 seconds at 175.34 mph. Rampy who advanced to his 154th national event final tipped the clocks at 7.315, 154.69.

Richmond, Ky., racer Jeremy Mason took out last years champion Jonathan Anderson in Super Comp with a holeshot win as Mason’s 8.932 beat the quicker Anderson at 8.928. The win was Mason’s first as he’ll take home the coveted NHRA Wally trophy.

KAMPLAIN, BARKER AND JOHNSON LEAD SATURDAY WINNERS

BOWLING GREEN, KY – Greg Kamplain, Lindsey Barker and Lester Johnson each took home wins in Saturday’s specialty events for the JEGS NHRA SPORTSnationals presented by Quick Fuel at Beech Bend Raceway Park.

Kamplain, Brownsburg, Ind., grabbed the CTECH Comp Fast Four Shootout win as Dave Dupps left early with a red-light foul start. Barker and Johnson picked up the wins in the Racing RV’s Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Fast Four respectively. Danny Nelson was out first on Barker only to have Barker run him down for the win at 6.011 seconds at 221.89 mph. Nelson clocked in at 6.043, 231.40. Johnson had to run down Chip Rumis who had a big holeshot in his ’12 Camaro. Johnson won with a 6.236 second pass at 224.51 to Rumis’ 7.147, 139.56.
