BROWNSBURG, IN – Next Friday’s 11th annual Don Schumacher Racing Open House presented by Pennzoil to Riley Children's Foundationbenefit Riley Hospital for Children will feature its most expansive and unique silent auction thanks to friends of DSR and the NHRA drag racing community.
Pennzoil, the “The Official Oil Technology of DSR,” will provide special Open House T-shirts to the first 500 guests attending the free, public event with doors opening at 10 a.m. at DSR (1681 E. Northfield Drive, Brownsburg).

The Open House closes at 3 p.m. leaving guests plenty of time to complete the short drive to the site of the U.S. Nationals where first round of nitro qualifying begins at 8 p.m.


But you don’t have to wait until then to kick off your own U.S. Nationals.

You can go online NOW at https://dsr16.auction-bid.org to view all items in the silent auction and BEGIN BIDDING NOW. Bids must be submitted by 2:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 2, 2016) from anywhere on the planet via computer or cell phone thanks to technology provided by GiveSmart.com.

And of course, you can go “old school” and submit bids in person during the Open House from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

In addition to the silent auction, visitors to the free event can enjoy one of Indiana’s biggest indoor car shows presented by the Indy Hi-Winders Car Club, a wild Cacklefest, and autograph session with all eight DSR drivers and team owner Don Schumacher.

A star attraction will be Papa John’s Pizza founder/president/chief executive John Schnatter and his invaluable 1971 Chevrolet Camaro Z28.

Joining some of Indy’s most popular food trucks will be the sale of donated Mello Yello products and hot Papa John’s pizza.

You don’t even have to be at DSR headquarters about 2 miles from the site of the 62nd annual U.S. Nationals near Indianapolis to get a piece of NHRA and racing history from 75 unique items – with more added almost every day – ranging from unique wines, restaurant gift certificates, NASCAR and IndyCar tickets, Carlyle and Matco tools, Tig welder and welder’s helmet and Schumacher Electric Corp chargers and Red Fuel Powered by Schumacher personal chargers.

The Open House auction, coordinated by DSR’s Blake Elliott, offers a record number of race-related, items with most autographed, including:

Drivers’ firesuits from Terry Chandler’s Make-A-Wish and Riley Hospital teams along with one donated by Tim Wilkerson;
Race-proven body and car parts from windshields, body panels, engine block along with a variety of collectible items from NHRA and NASCAR Cup teams (Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne and Joey Logano);

Hall-of-famers help DSR salute “50 years of Funny Cars”
A special feature this year is a salute to NHRA’s “50 years of Funny Car” with an entertaining discussion with legendary Funny Car drivers Ed “Ace” McCulloch, Tom “Mongoose” McEwen, hall-of-famer and DSR crew chief Mark Oswald along with Schumacher, one of the first and most successful Funny Car drivers.

Certain to add an historical perspective in a uniquely humorous manner will be legendary announcer Bob Frey who will emcee the salute.

Also available will be tours of the DSR racecar shop that has been expanded to 145,000 square feet that provides even more room for custom cars and motorcycles, muscle cars and hot rods. Guests also can tour the DSR fabrication shop and recently expanded machine shop.

Terry Chandler’s Riley Kids Funny Car on display
DSR’s support for Riley, Indiana’s only comprehensive hospital dedicated exclusively to the care of children, will be extended for a third year by running the #RileyDreamRacer Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car with driver Tommy Johnson Jr. that is funded by Terry Chandler.

Johnson and other DSR drivers will visit Riley on Wednesday afternoon.

The 330-mph #RileyDreamRacer Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car currently is on display in the hospital lobby.
