Sentimental weekend ahead for Arana in Pomona

POMONA, CA – With only this weekend’s Auto Club NHRA Finals left on the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule, the race also Adam Arana - Eppingmarks a much more meaningful event for Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Adam Arana.

Already enlisted for entry into the United States Coast Guard in 2015, Arana’s trip to Pomona this weekend will be his last on the ProtectTheHarvest.com/MAVTV Buell in his professional career. Yet, Arana isn’t sure that the emotions of the weekend will really catch up to him until he leaves for service.

“It’s tough to say what my emotions will be like because I’m used to Pomona being the last race,” Arana said. “I’m used to having four months off, so I don’t think it will hit me that I’m no longer racing until I leave for boot camp.”

However, Arana has a feeling he may be back competing on a Pro Stock Motorcycle at some point in the near future.

“I still have my license and it’s good for another two years, so if I get an opportunity I might try to go out to a race and have some fun, be a spoiler,” Arana said.

Even though the season finale in Pomona marks the closing chapter of his professional drag racing career, the youngest Arana knows that he won’t be able to stay away from the racetrack indefinitely.

“It’s a great atmosphere in Pomona,” Arana said. “It’s the last race and it’s one of the biggest races. I’m excited and sad all at the same time.

“It’d be one thing if I would never be able to come out here again,” Arana said. “But since my brother and dad are still racing, I’m definitely going to be at the track in the future.”

Qualifying sessions are scheduled for 11:45 and 2:45 p.m. PT, Friday and Saturday. Eliminations will start at approximately noon, Sunday, with both qualifying and elimination action broadcast on ESPN2 on tape-delay basis.
