Elma, NY– The recent performance of Mike Janis and his Eaton Aeroquip Mustang has many in his home area of Western New York looking forward to attending this weekend’s 5th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio.

“Of all the NHRA tracks we run at I would say I’ve raced at Norwalk the most. I’ve been running there for… gosh several decades,” laughed Janis. “Norwalk is the closest national event track for us, just three and a half hours from our shop, Jan-Cen Motorsports in Elma, NY.”

“It’s been a busy week back at the shop. People have been coming in to the shop all week telling us that they have been watching what we have been doing and that they are going to Norwalk to cheer us on. My Mom, sister and brothers are coming along with other family members and friends. It’s going to be a busy weekend in our Pit area,” added Janis.

55 Chevy with CARB-Approved 430-HP LS3 Averages 23 MPG

Courtesy of GMPP

GRAND BLANC, MI – Efficiency isn’t a word typically associated with hot rods, but when the GM Performance Parts (GMPP) E-ROD 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air hit the road for this summer’s Hot Rod Power Tour, it delivered an impressive average of 23 mpg on the drive from Florida to Michigan. That was with a 430-horsepower LS3 V-8 under the hood and emissions performance comparable to a new Camaro SS.

The key to this classic cruiser’s balanced performance was the GMPP-engineered E-ROD crate engine system, which features emissions equipment designed to make it compliant with increasingly stringent emissions laws. In fact, the E-ROD LS3 in the GMPP ’55 carries Executive Order (EO) number D-126-30 from California Air Resources Board (CARB), making it legal for installation in pre-OBD II (1996-and-earlier) vehicles in that state.

BRISTOL, TN – The extensive testing Roy Hill did before the 11th annual Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals presented by Tri-Cities Area Ford Dealers paid off in Bristol, as Hill and teammate Grant Lewis occupied the top two qualifying positions in the Super Stock category.

Lewis, from Jesup, GA, put the Goodyear Ford Mustang Cobra Jet on the pole with an 8.841 second pass, while Hill piloted the Coca-Cola/Alsco car to an 8.886 second elapsed time, good enough for the second starting spot. Hill had been working to bring his car’s performance on par with the second team car, and the one-two showing was the end result.

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT – Bobby Lagana Jr. and his wild clan of road warriors are known for their crazy antics.

From late nights at local dives, to allowing fans to actually sign their dragster before a run, to finding out exactly how many different machines – from lawn mowers to golf carts – can run on nitro, the Lagana’s are always a good time waiting to happen.

Lagana (left) and Bruce Litton have become close friends on the Nitro Jam tour

A second generation racer from New York, Lagana and his family have spent nearly their entire lives on the road traveling from race to race campaigning an entry in the sports quickest and fastest drag racing class while having plenty of fun along the way. But usually, that fun is reserved for time away from the track.

Recent successes vaults Jeg Coughlin Jr. to top of BTE Power Rankings

Courtesy of Jegs

CARTERVILLE, IL – As the 2011 Sportsman drag racing season nears its midway point, the BTE Power Rankings on ThisIsBracketRacing.com have seen a change at the top.

As of the June 15 rankings, more than 600 sportsman competitors have earned points within the BTE Power Rankings and currently they are led by five-time NHRA World Champion Jeg Coughlin Jr.

Coughlin, who took a break from his highly successful NHRA Pro Stock career this season, has once again proven his versatility behind the wheel of several Team JEGS sportsman machines. His 42 Power Points have all been awarded in the last month and have come in a variety of vehicles and race formats.

A trip to the west coast for the JEGS Pacific SPORTSNationals paid handsome dividends with a near double-victory, as Coughlin claimed his first NHRA Super Comp victory in addition to runner-up honors in Super Gas.

A week later, he drove his vintage ’67 Chevy II Wagon to a runner-up finish in the Door Car Shootout event at the K&N Spring Fling in Bristol, Tenn.

Just last weekend, Coughlin turned in an incredible performance by claiming three big dollar event wins in one day at the Ultimate 64 Shootout in Cleves, Ohio.

Second-round hiccup costs Team JEGS’ Troy Coughlin

Courtesy of Jegs

BRISTOL, TN – Staging a turbocharged Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series vehicle can be a delicate balancing act, and Team JEGS driver Troy Coughlin was on the unfortunate end of the balance beam during Sunday’s second round of the NHRA Ford Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.

Coughlin lit the red light on the Christmas Tree, indicating he left the starting line too soon. That handed the victory to series points leader Khalid Balooshi and ended what had been a solid weekend for Coughlin.

Coughlin qualified 13th with his JEGS.com Pontiac and beat Ed Hoover, who was third in Pro Mod points, in the first round.
