HUNTER & CHAD GREEN RECORD PERSONAL BEST FUNNY CAR SPEEDS AT NHRA DENSO SOMONA NATIONALS DRAG RACES

The Texas-based father and son Funny Car racing pair of Chad and Hunter Green produce their personal best speeds Sunday at the NHRA DENSO Sonoma Nationals drag races

SONOMA, CA – Chad and Hunter Green, the popular father and son drag racing team from Midland, Tex., recorded their all-time personal best speeds last Sunday (July 27) in the NHRA DENSO Sonoma Nationals drag races with the nitro-burning, 12,000-horsepower machines.

Racing at the 1,000-foot drag strip at Sonoma Raceway near San Francisco, the Greens produced speeds over 330 miles per hour as they battled against a tough 16-car Funny Car lineup in front of large spectator turnout throughout the three-day event, the 12th race in the 20-event NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.

Hunter Green, a rookie in the highly competitive Funny Car class, has been developing into a solid racer with each event this year and took his Chad Green Motorsports Pronto Auto Services Dodge Hellcat to an impressive sixth qualifying position at a personal best 3.897 seconds. Hunter then upset former NHRA World Champion J.R. Todd in the opening round of eliminations with a time of 3.915 seconds at 333.00 miles per hour. The speed was the fastest of the young Green’s racing career after competing in the Top Alcohol Dragster category last year.

“We had a some good track conditions last weekend at Sonoma,” said H. Green. “The cooler air and less humidity always helps the nitro cars run better and our CGM team worked hard to get the engine and clutch working well together. You can overpower the track surface sometimes when the air is so cool. But the 3.897 was my best time in a Funny Car and 333 (m.p.h.) was my fastest speed. That’s exciting for our team moving forward.”

H. Green advanced to the quarterfinals Sunday before losing traction against another former World Champion Jack Beckman, who moved on to the semifinals.

Father Chad enjoyed his best speed in his Funny Car career in the CGM Bond-Coat Ford Mustang with a stellar 334.65 m.p.h. reading in the first round of eliminations Sunday at Sonoma. C. Green, who qualified tenth at 3.927 seconds, had a tough matchup against three-time World Champion Ron Capps, a multi-time Sonoma race winner.

While Chad sped to a solid 3.907 at the 334.65 m.p.h., he lost the race against Capps’ 3.854. Despite the first-round defeat, Green feels the CGM crew is close to another victory in the near uture.

“I’m very happy with speed we are reaching now with our cars,” said C. Green, the 2025 NHRA Gatornationals champion. “The conditions this weekend were nearly ideal for the nitro cars with the cooler temperatures. Our Bond-Coat crew has been improving with each race in the summer as we have had many races in hot and humid conditions. Hunter’s Pronto team is a brand new operation this year and they have really shown some potential with the recent runs. We are ready for the next few races now at Brainerd (Aug. 15-17) and Indianapolis (Aug. 29-Sept. 1).”

Hunter and Chad Green return to nitro competition in three weeks with NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway as qualifying gets underway on Friday, August 15, at 4:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. CDT, followed by Saturday’s qualifying rounds at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. CDT. The final eliminations will begin on Sunday, August 17, at 10:30 a.m. CDT.

The NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals telecast is scheduled for Sunday, August 17, at 3 p.m. EDT on the Fox Network.
