Hagan gets first Mello Yello trophy for DSR’s 2015 Dodge Charger R/T 

POMONA, CA – Don Schumacher Racing got off to a fast start Sunday by advancing three teams to the championship round of the NHRA Circle K Winternationals at Pomona, Calif., and two-time and reigning Funny Car world champion Matt Hagan continued his hot streak at Auto Club Raceway.

Hagan and the Mopar Express Lane/Rocky Boots 2015 Dodge Charger R/T advanced to their fourth straight final round at Pomona and won the season-opener of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season be edging past DSR teammate Ron Capps in the NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge for his third event title at Pomona and the 15th of his career.

It was the first title for the all-new Dodge Charger R/T in its first race and marked the 241st event title for DSR.

“It speaks volumes for Dickie Venables, Mike Knudsen and these guys that put our car together. They worked so hard to put a good car underneath me. It’s cool for me to say that I’m the first to win with this new 2015 Dodge Charger.

In Top Fuel, DSR’s Antron Brown and the Matco Tools/U.S. Army team were disappointed by qualifying 11th but advanced to the championship round for the 88th time in his career. He lost a close race to Alan Johnson Racing’s Shawn Langdon, who was the No. 1 qualifier with a time of 3.700 seconds that is the quickest ever in NHRA.

The next Mello Yello event is Feb. 20-22 near Phoenix at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.
