Englishtown brings possibility of another win for Arana Sr.
ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – After reaching the final round in Englishtown last year, Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Hector Arana feels that his
2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season can turn around when he returns for the Toyota NHRA Summernationals, May 29-June 1, at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
The Lucas Oil Buell rider has seen some recent progress this year with a couple of first-round wins in both Charlotte and Atlanta, but at this point last season Arana was in a final round competing for another career win, and that’s where he wants to be now.
“I expect to do better in Englishtown than I did in Atlanta,” Arana said. “My goal is to always do better than I did the race before. This season I haven’t seen results that I know we are capable of, but as long as we can keep moving forward and keep improving our performance, then I’m happy with how things are going.”
Fighting a chaotic personal and professional schedule, Arana has not been able to test his equipment since the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series ended in Pomona, but with a season mired with complications so far, he has found time to possibly continue making that necessary progress.
“We really need to test this week,” Arana said. “We’ve been facing various issues so far this season, and I feel like testing will help narrow the possibilities down. We need to get back to being the great contenders we are if we want to have a good chance of winning the championship. That’s what we’re going for, the big win at the end of the season.”
Arana will be ready to turn his season around when qualifying sessions are held at 4 and 6:15 p.m., Friday, and 12:45 and 3:15 p.m., Saturday. Eliminations will start at approximately 11 a.m., Sunday, with both qualifying and elimination action broadcast on ESPN2.
