CHAD & HUNTER GREEN TEAM UP IN FUNNY CAR THIS WEEKEND IN CHARLOTTE FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS WITH VICTORY ON THEIR MINDS
CHARLOTTE, NC – Chad Green Motorsports came close to a Funny Car victory last weekend when its driver Blake Alexander placed runner-
up at the NHRA Reading Nationals in the CGM Pronto Auto Services Dodge Hellcat.
Alexander, a four-time NHRA national event winner, returned to action with a solid semifinals finish at the NHRA U.S. Nationals during Labor Day weekend and drove to the final round last weekend in Reading, Pa., before being nipped at the finish line by two-time World Champion Cruz Pedregon.
Now, the Texas-based father and son pair of Chad and Hunter Green will be pilot the team’s two nitro-burning Funny Car this weekend (Sept. 19-21) in the unique NHRA Carolina Four-Wide Nationals featuring four races competing at the same time rather than two.
Hunter Green, an NHRA Funny Car rookie, takes over the seat for Alexander at Charlotte in his final race of the NHRA campaign and expects more impressive results with the Pronto Auto Services Dodge when Funny Car qualifying opens Friday at 4:45 p.m. EDT at zMax Dragway.
“Blake was so close to a win last weekend in Reading,” said Hunter, the son of the father-son driving duo. “The Pronto team is new to CGM with the second car, but the recent results show that our team is really coming together right now. I’m anxious to get behind the wheel this weekend at Charlotte and continue the strong runs. While some drivers don’t like the four-wide format, I really enjoy it.
“We saw some hotter temperatures and tough conditions at Reading last weekend. And I believe that will be case at Charlotte. But our team has proven to perform well in those conditions. So, we want to continue to qualify well and win rounds. In my last race at Brainerd, I qualified third (his career best), and I know I want to be in the front half of the 16-car field at Charlotte.”
Chad Green, the 2025 NHRA Gatornationals champion, is battling to get back in the top ten in NHRA Mission Funny Car point standings with the CGM Bond-Coat Ford Mustang as the second race of the six-event “Countdown to the Championship” is important for season-end cash.
“Our team, overall, was excited with Blake’s runner-up finish at Reading,” C. Green, a Midland, Tex., businessman when he isn’t driving his 12,000-horespower Funny Car. “We had some growing pains early when we added a second race car to our operation. But both cars are showing potential to get to the winner’s circle now. Everyone has been working hard and it showed at Reading. The Pronto team was close at Reading, and I know the Bond-Coat squad can be close again too. It’s nice to have Hunter back in the driver’s seat for the final time in 2025, as he gains more experience with the Funny Car. We are excited for Charlotte race.”
Alexander will return to the cockpit for the final four events of the 20-race NHRA Mission Drag Racing Series in the Pronto Auto Services Dodge Hellcat, starting next weekend at the NHRA Midwest Nationals in St. Louis.
“I am happy with our team’s progress with the semis at Indy and a final round at Reading,” said Alexander. “We are getting win lights with the new team and that showed things are moving in the right direction. The Reading track is bumpy, and the conditions can be tricky. We thought we had a car to win it all against Cruz, but we lost cylinder about 2.5 seconds into the run. Overall, it was a good weekend. We’ll hope to get to the final again this weekend with Hunter in the Pronto car at Charlotte.”
Nitro action for this weekend’s NHRA Carolina Four-Wide Nationals begins on Friday, Sept. 19, with two qualifying rounds set for 4:45 p.m. and 7 p.m. EDT, followed by Saturday’s qualifying sessions at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. EDT. The final eliminations will begin on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 11:30 a.m. EDT with the national telecast scheduled for 12 p.m. EDT on Fox Sports 1.
