CHAD GREEN DRIVES TO THE SEMIFINALS SUNDAY AT ST. LOUIS WITH CGM FLYING H DRAG STRIP MUSTANG, MOVES TO TOP TEN IN POINTS
Green records strong times at the NHRA Midwest Nationals in Nitro-burning Funny Car
MADISON, IL – Chad Green, coming off a final round appearance last week at Charlotte, continued his impressive Funny Car runs this
weekend at the NHRA Midwest Nationals drag races at the World Wide Technology Raceway with another semifinals finish in the CGM Flying H Drag Strip Ford Mustang.
Green, who captured the NHRA Gatornationals in March, suffered through a tough summer run in the 20-race NHRA Mission Drag Racing Series, but the Midland, Tex., driver has come on strong in recent events. His semifinals finish Sunday in the NHRA Midwest Nationals moved Green back in the top ten in Funny Car points entering the 18th event next month at Ennis, Tex., in the NHRA
Fallnationals on Oct. 10-12.
Right out of the gate on Friday night, Green posted a sensational 3.886 second pass at 334.07 miles per hour to secure a top five position in the 16-car Funny Car field.
Ironically, Green’s fifth starting position matched him up in the first round against his CGM teammate, Blake Alexander in the Pronto Auto Service Dodge Hellcat, who qualified 12th in the Funny Car lineup. Chad recording another solid run with a 3.954 to Blake’s 6.798. The Charlotte driver’s machine shook the rear tires off the starting line, and he was forced to get off the throttle.
In the quarterfinals, Green took on veteran Bob Tasca III and Chad recorded a quick reaction time off the starting line and won the race despite a slower race time with a 4.007 to Tasca’s 3.966.
Green then advanced to the semifinals against former NHRA World Champion Jack Beckman, and the Texas racer jumped off the starting line quickly again. However, Green’s 12,000-horsepower Funny Car smoked its rear tires early in the run and Beckman cruised to the win.
“We ran some good laps again this weekend at St. Louis,” said Green. “Our team had some trouble in the middle of the season, but you can see things turning around in recent races. We have qualified better and grabbed some win lights which is what we wanted from the start. Another semifinals finish moves us into the top ten in Funny Car points, and we go to our home state race next at the Texas Motorplex. That would be a great race to win.”
Alexander, who drove to the final round at the Reading Nationals, will be seeking his fifth NHRA national event win at the NHRA Fallnationals on Oct. 10-12 in the Pronto Auto Services Dodge Hellcat.
Chad and Hunter Green return to Funny Car action this Saturday (Oct. 4) at the Flying H Drag Strip for the “Night of Heroes – Nitro Night” at the Odessa, MO racing plant with a special match race.
Green and Alexander and nitro-burning Funny Cars will be scheduled for Fallnationals qualifying in Texas with two rounds on Friday, Oct. 10, at 5:15 p.m. and 8 p.m. CDT. On Saturday, Oct. 11, the nitro sessions will begin at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. CDT with final eliminations scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. CDT. The final eliminations will be televised on the Fox Network on Sunday at 2 p.m. EDT and 4:30 p.m. EDT.
