CHAD GREEN DRIVES FLYING H FORD MUSTANG TO SEMIFINALS SUNDAY AT HIS HOME STATE TRACK IN NHRA TEXAS FALLNATIONALS
ENNIS, TX – Chad Green, racing in his home state for the first time this year, advanced to the semifinals Sunday with his CGM Flying H
Drag Strip/Bond-Coat Ford Mustang Funny Car in the NHRA Texas FallNationals drag races at the Texas Motorplex.
The Midland, Tex., driver recorded his third consecutive semifinals appearance in the NHRA Mission Drag Racing Series after strong runs at Charlotte and St. Louis before Sunday’s performance. Green’s semifinals finish moved him to eighth in the current Funny Car points.
After qualifying in fourth Friday night with a stellar 3.901-second run, Green came out strong during eliminations also by taking his 12,000-horsepower, nitro-burning machine to a first-round victory over Terry Haddock and then defeating veteran Paul Lee in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Green took on the No. 1 qualifier and eventual race winner Austin Prock, and Chad left the starting line with big margin over Prock. But his car lost a cylinder. Green’s 4.068 was not enough to better Prock’s 3.963.
“Our car has been running consistently for the past four or five races and I thought I had good shot against Prock in the semifinals,” said Green. “We got the starting line advantage over Austin, but the car’s engine just lost a cylinder. Without that, we could have beaten him. Overall, our car is making it down the track with solid runs and we have been moving up the Funny Car point standings. We are anxious to go to Las Vegas now (Dodge NHRA Nevada Nationals on Oct. 31-Nov. 2).”
Green’s CGM teammate, Blake Alexander, the Reading Nationals Funny Car runner-up, had a tough matchup in the opening round of eliminations with the CGM Pronto Auto Services Dodge//SRT Hellcat by taking on Prock, the No. 1 qualifier. But, the Charlotte, N.C., racer clocked a 4.030 to Prock’s 3.867.
Alexander’s CGM Pronto crew has been utilizing new parts and new clutch settings in recent weeks since his Reading Nationals final round appearance. Alexander is expecting an excellent showing at the next NHRA Mission event in Las Vegas on Oct. 31-Nov.2.
Green and Alexander will be back in action at the Dodge NHRA Nevada Nationals powered by Direct Connection on Friday, Oct. 31, with qualifying rounds at 1:30 and 4 p.m. PDT. Saturday’s (Nov. 1) qualifying will take place at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. PDT, with final eliminations on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. PST. Fox Sports 1 will telecast Sunday’s eliminations at 5 p.m. EST.
