CECIL COUNTY OFFICIALS INSTRUMENTAL IN FORMATION OF NEW 10.5 CLASS FOR THE X-DRL
Kerrville TX – The evolution of the Outlaw 10.5 class from it’s southern roots as a true ‘3,000 LB Run What You Brung’ to the modern-
day rules is largely credited to David O’Donnel and Jim Halsey at Cecil County Dragway.
“We instituted the weight breaks for the ¼ mile and as the cars got faster, we adjusted to run the 1/8 mile but kept the weight breaks. This has allowed for growth within the class in the north east,” O’Donnel said. He went on to say the class is strong because of the parity created between nitrous, turbo and blower cars.
“We were excited when the X-DRL contacted us about using our rules and keeping the parity we worked so hard to create. They made some changes, mostly in the safety section, to meet X-DRL ASO and insurance requirements, but I didn’t have a problem with the changes,” O’Donnel continued.
X-DRL Racer Profile – Pro Nitrous Cures Laurita’s Engineering Itch
Kerrville, TX – After qualifying tenth in Top Sportsman at the IHRA World Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, Jim Laurita loads his Tim
McAmis-built ’63 Corvette into the trailer for the night. It’s a balmy Friday night in August, 2006; eliminations start early tomorrow morning, but with no maintenance or repairs to perform on the car, the Morgantown, West Virginia coal mining executive and his volunteer crew have some time on their hands and elect to take a stroll through the pits before calling it a night.
Eventually they end up in the professional pit area, where considerably more light floods from the haulers at this late hour than on the sportsman side. In what has become the norm, forty-two Pro Modified teams are on the grounds in hopes of securing one of the coveted sixteen qualifying positions. Achieving that is no easy task, and it comes at the expense of perfectly good aluminum, hard-earned cash, and precious sleep.
Pat Musi Racing Engines Supports Sportsmen at the X-DRL Mayhem at the Creek
KERRVILLE, TX – Pat Musi Racing Engines has long been known for its 903 cubic-inch fuel injected nitrous racing engine that has
become a popular choice for numerous Pro Nitrous and X-Treme Pro Modified standouts.
But Musi also has a great deal to offer to the talented drivers in the sportsman ranks and that will become even more evident at the X-DRL’s upcoming Mayhem at the Creek, which takes place July 26-27 at Maryland International Raceway.
There, Pat Musi Racing Engines is sponsoring half of the Mickey Thompson Top Sportsman entry fees for the event, lowering the entry fee to just $125 per competitor at the race.
X-DRL Bringing Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School Experience to Mayhem at the Creek
KERRVILLE, TX – The X-DRL has formed a partnership with Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School that will add even more excitement to the
already jam-packed Mayhem at the Creek at Maryland International Raceway in Budds Creek, MD on July 26-27.
Drag racing legend Roy Hill and his staff will be on hand with the Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School three-seater dragster, which is backed by Coca-Cola, Alsco and FireAde 2000. This unique ride-along dragster will offer the experience of a lifetime for ten drag racing fans at Mayhem at the Creek.
“In the weeks leading up to the event, we’ll be giving away rides in the dragster to ten lucky fans through both the X-DRL and Maryland International Raceway Facebook pages,” said X-DRL President Jeff Mitchell. “After recently attending Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School and experiencing the three-seater dragster, I knew this was something we had to do for our fans at our next race. Stay tuned for more details on how to win.”
X-DRL Press Release: X-DRL to add 10.5 Class starting at Mayhem on the Creek
Kerrville, TX – The X-DRL continues to add excitement in its program with the inclusion of a 10.5 class.
According to president Jeff Mitchell, the X-DRL continues to listen to track partners, racers and fans as the program continues to develop throughout the inaugural season.
“We have been looking for the right class to add since before the Spring Nationals that would complement our professional and sportsman programs, work with our track prep strategy and bring the fans the excitement they have come to expect from the X-DRL,” Mitchell said.
“We believe a properly structured 10.5 class will be exciting and fit well with the other classes we currently offer. This will be a 16-car field and use established rules.
X-DRL Points Chase starting to take shape after 4 Events
Kerrville, TX – For the time being Dean Goforth is ready to party like it’s 1984.
A race after winning his first event in the X-DRL, Goforth took his new Jerry Haas Race Cars Camaro to a runner-up spot in St. Louis, continuing his strong early-season momentum.
Most importantly, Goforth also took over the points lead in X-treme Pro Stock, putting him in the points lead for the first time since 1984.
It’s a gargantuan feat for Goforth, who has shown remarkable ability behind the wheel this season.
He lost to Todd Hoerner in the final at X-treme Gateway Showdown, but he still left with the points lead and had nothing but positives to say about finishing as the runner-up and the surface at Gateway Motorsports Park.
Todd Hoerner Wins X-DRL Xtreme Pro Stock on a Holeshot
Madison, IL – Todd Hoerner won the X-DRL Xtreme Pro Stock title for the latest X-DRL national event, Xtreme Gateway Showdown. Checkout his winning run against a quicker Dean Goforth.
X-DRL Eliminations – All classes complete except Pro Xtreme
Madison, IL – Eliminations during the 2013 X-Treme Drag Racing League X-Treme Gateway Showdown at Gateway Motorsports Park
moved faster than a huge storm front, avoiding a stoppage and allowing the XDRL to complete another event.
Pro X-Treme low qualifier Brandon Pesz’s ’58 Corvette kept the third driver’s door in two days in place, running a 3.690 @ 204.91 MPH to down Quain Stott’s ’63 Corvette, which ran a losing 3.725 @ 203.25, with identical reaction times. On the other side of the ladder, Tim Tindle’s Mustang outran the Mustang of Todd Tutterow, 3.696 @ 204.57 MPH to Todd’s 3.743 @ 201.70 MPH. The only class which did not finish with an event winner, it will be decided during qualifying at the next event in Maryland.

not unexpected results. From the top, in Pro X-Treme, low qualifier Brandon Pesz’s ’53 Corvette did the opposite of blowing the doors off his competition, and did so twice to his own car! Points leader Pesz kept his Lethal Threat team busy, first in finding parts to the original door that flew off, and the second time in retrieving what they could of the spare door to enable them to come back tomorrow. He was, however, rewarded with a 3.628 ET at 208.91 MPH and the top qualifying spot.DOUG RIESTERER TO JOIN KEITH HANEY RACING AT X-TREME GATEWAY SHOWDOWN
Madison, IL – Some scheduling conflicts are causing Keith Haney Racing to shuffle the deck a little for this weekend’s X-DRL X-Treme
Gateway Showdown, but the team’s namesake is confident in the hand he’ll be dealt at Gateway Motorsports Park.
As usual Haney will take the wheel of his red, nitrous-injected Lucas Oil Chevy Camaro, and normally Monroe Guest is behind the wheel of the black Lucas Oil Camaro, but prior commitments have Guest out of the country this weekend.
To fill that vacant seat, Haney didn’t have to search very far.
“Doug Riesterer has been helping tune our cars all year long and is a championship driver in his own right,” Haney said. “Since Monroe couldn’t be in St. Louis with us this weekend, Doug is a great choice for the black car.”
