LOCKHAART WHEELIES INTO FRIDAT $20K WIN DURING BTE LABOR DAY FOOTBRAKE CHALLENGE

BRISTOL, TN – Friday morning, the BTE Labor Day Footbrake Challenge launched with the last guaranteed time trial as racers gathered data to use for the remainder of the weekend. Opening ceremonies began with a sincere moment for Coalburg Racing Promotions’ two-time $50,000 winner and drag racing legend Scotty Richardson, who recently passed away. Co-promoter Jared Pennington recognized Richardson’s on-track accolades and contributions to the sport, but more importantly, the impact on his family and friends.

After an invocation from Steve Riggins and the playing of our national anthem, Friday’s main event eliminations rumbled onto the starting line. 362 entries made the first round call of the now $20,000-to-win race under sunny skies and blistering heat. Eventually the field narrowed to only five remaining drivers in round number eight: Ricky Greer, Michael Collier, Charlie Lockhart, Howie Adams, and Cole Mason. Continue reading

YOUNG CELEBRATES FIRST WIN ON DAY ONE OF THE BTE LABOR DAY FOOTBRAKE CHALLENGE

BRISTOL, TN – Bristol Dragway roared once again with the sounds of footbrake racing as Coalburg Racing Promotions returned for the BTE Labor Day Footbrake Challenge. Drivers utilized a track-operated test and tune session to get dialed in for the weekend of competition before Thursday’s Gamblers Race.

Shortly before staging lanes were closed, an unexpected storm saturated the facility, annihilated E-Z UP tents, and added an extra creek to the upper-level parking. Anyone in attendance certainly understands that when it rains at Bristol, it pours, but as usual, the sun quickly reappeared, and the track surface was race-ready in record time.

The purse for Thursday’s Gamblers Race was increased to $4,000 to win, and 174 entries rolled through the water box in round one of competition. The single entry and no buyback format rapidly eliminated the field and left no room for driver error. Soon, only six drivers remained in the sixth round: Brian Cireddu, Daniel Young, Kyle Feebeck, Lucas Walker, Robby Mayne, and Cody Barnhart. Continue reading

BIDDLE CONQUERS SUNDAY CROWN AT WORLD FOOTBRAKE CHALLENG XVI

Bristol, TN – Apparently, the quote that time flies when you’re having fun was written about drag racing since the BTE World Footbrake Challenge XVI has rapidly approached its final day. Sunday opened with a chapel service and new entry time trials, followed by the two remaining rounds of Saturday’s Gamblers Race.

The surviving competitors were hoping that win lights were on the breakfast menu this morning and Joe Foley was served the bye run. A pair of Tims battled to see who would advance into the final to face him. The .004 reaction time of Tim Douglas essentially sealed the deal as he took the win over Tim Curry.

In the final, Douglas was .004 again and runs dead on with an eight to earn a $4,000 payday beside the breakout pass of Foley.
Another large payout was still on the table as 400 entries raced down the eighth mile first round of Sunday’s Main Event. Several rounds later there were only five drivers left in the running for $15K. The all-Chevrolet driving quarterfinalists were Caleb Ellison, Brandon White, Chad Dotson, Kaleb Greene, and Randy Biddle Jr.

ELLISON EMERGES AS $15K CHAMPION ON FRIDAY DURING THE BTE WORLD FOOTBRAKE CHALLENGE XVI

Bristol, TN – Bristol Dragway was once again filled with eager footbrake racers as the first of three $15,000 main event races kicked off Friday at the BTE World Footbrake Challenge XVI. Drivers were given one time trial per entry in order to get their cars dialed in for the mountain air which was then followed by opening ceremonies.

This year, Coalburg Racing Promotions acknowledged recently departed competitors and friends, John DiBartolomeo, Greg Rushing, and Lucas McKinney. In remembrance of Lucas, twenty-two seconds of silence befell the racetrack, followed by a memorial pass down the racetrack by his father, Todd. The impact of these losses will be felt for a lifetime, but we will continue to honor their memory and love of the sport.

Once the tears were wiped away, it was officially time to get down to business. By the time first round was completed, an impressive 434 entries had made their way onto the racing surface in hopes of cashing in for $15K.
