Goodyear Returns As PSCA Class Sponsor

LAS VEGAS, NV – For the fourth-consecutive year, Goodyear Racing Tires, a division of Carrol Shelby Enterprises Inc., is partnering Goodyearwith the Pacific Street Car Association to be the class sponsor for the Goodyear Racing Tires Open Comp class. The partnership will also extend to the Street Car Super Nationals IX in November

Goodyear Racing Tires will pay out $150 to race winners and $75 to the runner up at all PSCA events, including SCSN IX and the newly-formed Rocky Mountain Summer Series that will race at Bandimere Raceway near Denver.

‘FOCUS THIS’ – DOUTHIT’S JET CAR BRINGING FORD THRUST TO NMRA EVENT

Columbus, Ohio – Ford fans in the State of Ohio are in store for quite a surprise this weekend, as second-generation Jet Car driver David Douthit brings his 10,000 horsepower, J-85 General Electric powered 2000 Ford Focus Jet Car called ‘Focus This’ to the 33rd Annual NMRA Ford Expo, scheduled for September 2nd-4th at National Trail Raceway in Columbus.

Douthit, originally from San Diego, Calif. and now residing in Colorado Springs, Colo., literally cut his teeth at the Drag Strip. The son of legendary showman ‘Smokey Joe’ Douthit, David began his racing career working on the family’s wheel stander; a crowd pleasing 69 Nova called Smokey Red. In 1993, one week after graduating high school David received his jet dragster license and at the time was the quickest and fastest teenager in the world. Since then, the Douthit Family has traveled the world making exhibition runs in Hawaii, Aruba, Curacao, Japan, Mexico City, and all over the United States and Canada.

Team JEGS Pre-race Notes for Las Vegas Nationals

Las Vegas, NV – The Las Vegas event will mark the second race in the 2011 Get Screened America Pro Mod Series. Troy Coughlin will once again be in action with his turbocharged JEGS.com Pontiac GTO.

Troy finished fourth in the 2010 Get Screened America Pro Mod Series. He is currently ranked 17th after failing to qualify for the season-opening event in Gainesville, Fla.

The JEGS Mail Order team has enjoyed considerable success in Las Vegas. Jeg Coughlin Jr. won five Pro Stock titles in Las Vegas (2000, 2001, 2002, 2008 and 2009) and was a runner-up in 2007.  Troy’s is also a former Las Vegas winner, recording his first NHRA national event title in Super Comp in 2009. John Coughlin also used a win at the Las Vegas Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in 2009 to clinch his second North Central Division Top Dragster championship.

JACKSON RACING TAFC ZOOMS TO PROVISIONAL POLE IN PHOENIX

Chandler, AZ – A new season has begun for the Rick Jackson Racing Top Alcohol Funny Car team with the Santa Clarita, Calif. group producing mid-season performance.

A solid 5.595 second elapsed time was good enough to capture the provisional pole position after the first day of qualifying during the opening NHRA Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event of the 2011 season contested at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, Ariz.

The Centre Pointe Collision Center Ford Mustang team kicked off their 2011 campaign with a test session yesterday at FIR, giving crew chief Steve Boggs and driver Tony Bartone the opportunity to shake down any off season rust which may have developed since their record shattering 266.00 mile per hour blast recorded in mid-November, 2010.

F.J. Smith to be honored into Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame

CAYUGA, ONTARIO – One of Canada’s top drag racers is to be inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in April.

Noted racer and car builder F.J. (Fred) Smith, of Cayuga, Ontario will be honored by his peers in the racing community during the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame Induction Gala April 17 at the Sheraton Center in Toronto, Ontario.

Smith is the main proponent behind the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series, which races during many weekend events that the Pro Modified Racing Association and Quick 32 Sportsman Series compete.
