PMRA and Quick 32 Series to Compete at Canadian Nitro Nationals

CAYUGA, ONTARIO – One of the biggest and greatest drag racing events in Canada is now only days away, and the Pro Modified Racing Association and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series will be a major part of it.

In conjunction with the American Hot Rod Association, the Canadian Nitro Nationals will take place on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario July 1-4, 2010.

Round two of the 2010 PMRA Series will be held on the country’s oldest operating drag strip, with four qualifiers for the Pro Modifieds before the top eight cars do battle in the eliminations.

At present Eric Latino of Port Perry, Ontario is leading the PMRA Championship Point Award Series race.

There will be two rounds of Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts racing over the weekend, with the third and fourth races of the year.

Eric Latino Becomes 17th Winner in Six-year PMRA Racing History

CAYUGA, ONTARIO – When Eric Latino won the Pro Modified Racing Association’s season opener at the Cayuga Dragway May 23, he became the 17th driver to win a PMRA event in the series’ six years of racing.

The win for the Port Perry, Ontario racer was his first in PMRA competition.

At present, three-time champion Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario has the most number of wins with five. His first win came at Lancaster in 2005 and a co-win at New York International Raceway Park near Rochester with Mike Stawicki in 2008. Boland then won three events in 2009 at Cayuga and Grand Bend.

Stawicki, of Medina, New York is next with four wins. Along with his 2008 co-win with Boland, Stawicki has won at Cayuga in 2005, and then at both Lancaster and Cayuga in 2008.

Mickey Thompson Continues Involvement with PMRA and Quick 32 Series

Mike Stawicki and G-Force Return to PMRA Racing for 2010

MEDINA, NEW YORK – Veteran Pro Modified racer Mike Stawicki has returned to the Pro Modified Racing Association for the 2010 season, and the New York native plans to run as many PMRA events as possible this year.

“We will run as many as we can,” mentioned Stawicki, who is presently second on the PMRA win list with four outright wins and a tie between 2005 and 2008.

He also holds the PMRA quarter-mile elapsed time record with a 6.049-second pass at TMP in Cayuga, Ontario in 2008.

Stawicki did not compete in the PMRA in 2009, but returned with a new Firebird-bodied Pro Modified for the season opener at the Cayuga Dragway, where qualified number one with a 6.175-second run, but spun the tires in the first round and was eliminated.

He also said he will run in several ADRL events for 2010, and recently qualified with a stout 3.80-second, 199.42-mph pass at an ADRL meet in Michigan.

CAYUGA, ONTARIO – The Pro Modified Racing Association and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series is pleased to have Competition Tire Canada return as one of the contingency award sponsors for the 2010 racing season.
 
As one of Canada’s top auto racing tire suppliers, Competition Tire, based in Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario, has not only supplied tires for drag racing, oval track, and road circuit competition, it has also provided on-track support for many years, and tire experts are always on hand at race events to help its Goodyear Tire customers.
 
Competition Tire was started by the late Doug Fairchild, who worked with Goodyear in the 1960s and then stepped up to the international auto racing stage as part of the company’s Formula One effort. After a session working for Roger Penske, Fairchild returned to Canada to begin Competition Tire in 1985 and became Goodyear’s official race tire distributor at a national level.

Eric Latino Wins PMRA Opener at Toronto Motorsports Park

CAYUGA, ONTARIO – It was a close race, but Eric Latino won the opening round of the 2010 Pro Modified Racing Association season.
 
Held on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario, Latino, of Port Perry, Ontario, won with a 6.47-second, 206-mph pass over Derek Hawker of Corbyville Ontario with a 6.51-second, 215 mph run.
 
The win was the first PMRA race for Latino and his 1938 Chevy Coupe.  For Hawker, driving his Atchison powered 1963 Corvette; it was his first race in PMRA competition.
 
Latino qualified fifth in the field, and Hawker qualified in sixth spot.

Dave Earhart Hopes Consistency Pays off for 2010 PMRA season

STRATHROY, ONTARIO – Long-time Pro Modified Racing Association competitor Dave Earhart will once again be behind the wheel of his 2002 Camaro Pro Modified when the 2010 season kicks off May 21-23 for the Victoria Day Weekend at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario.
 
“I’ve just finished putting the motor back together and bolting it in the car right now,” Earhart said from his Strathroy, Ontario shop. “We’re trying to add a few more tricks to the car for this year.”
 
The winner of the Sanair event during the 2007 PMRA season, Earhart’s Camaro is powered by a 526-cubic inch KB Olds, with a Kobelco 14-71 supercharger sitting on top. The Camaro sits on a double rail chassis updated by himself and crew chief Simon Couto, but behind the engine is a unique two-speed transmission based on a TH 400 from the shop of Hutch’s Transmission Service.

Project Track Champion to Take Part in Upcoming Event at Cayuga Dragway

CAYUGA, ONTARIO – Along with a great weekend of drag racing during the Victoria Day Weekend May 21-23, the opening round in the Pro Modified Racing Association and Quick 32 Sportsman Series, those with disabilities will be given the chance to ride in a specially-prepared race car down the Cayuga Dragstrip.
 
Project Track Champion presented by Voices Unlimited and supported by Toronto Motorsports Park, the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and Powered by Pioneer is a unique vehicle which offers accessibility for persons with a disability to experience the thrills of a racing environment.
 
Through the organization of Voices Unlimited, a self-advocacy group aligned with Community Living Haldimand, the race car will provide rides throughout the weekend on the drag strip of Toronto Motorsports Park.

PMRA and Quick 32 2010 kick-off at TMP’s Cayuga Dragway

CAYUGA, ONTARIO – The Victoria Day Weekend promises to be the biggest and best opening day event in the history of the Pro Modified Racing Association and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts.
 
The three-day race, to be held May 21-23 at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, in Cayuga, Ontario will host the opening round of the 2010 PMRA tour, and will also kick off the Pro Modified series’ sixth season. The Quick 32 Sportsman Series will join the Pro Modifieds for its second season with a large variety of Top Dragster and Top Sportsman entries.
 
Last year’s events were won by Ike Maier of Tottenham, Ontario in the PMRA series, and T.J Schippling of Shakespeare, Ontario won the Quick 32 Sportsman Series event in his Top Dragster.
 
A record number of teams in both series will be on hand. Cars in the PMRA are capable of travelling the quarter-mile in under six seconds with speeds over 240 mph, while the Quick 32 Sportsman Series cars should be running in the low six-second range at speeds approaching 225 mph.
