PMRA and Quick 32 2010 kick-off at TMP’s Cayuga Dragway

CAYUGA, ONTARIO – The Victoria Day Weekend promises to be the biggest and best opening day event in the history of the Pro Modified Racing Association and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts.

The three-day race, to be held May 21-23 at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, in Cayuga, Ontario will host the opening round of the 2010 PMRA tour, and will also kick off the Pro Modified series’ sixth season. The Quick 32 Sportsman Series will join the Pro Modifieds for its second season with a large variety of Top Dragster and Top Sportsman entries.

Last year’s events were won by Ike Maier of Tottenham, Ontario in the PMRA series, and T.J Schippling of Shakespeare, Ontario won the Quick 32 Sportsman Series event in his Top Dragster.

A record number of teams in both series will be on hand. Cars in the PMRA are capable of travelling the quarter-mile in under six seconds with speeds over 240 mph, while the Quick 32 Sportsman Series cars should be running in the low six-second range at speeds approaching 225 mph.

The two series travel and race together at events, and there is a strong camaraderie between competitors of the two series, with a strong social bond between members of the teams wherever they travel.

The weekend event will also feature the popular wheel-standing cars of the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series, and round two of the TNT Super Series for cars running on a 10.90 index will be at Cayuga.

A special event to give those less fortunate will take place this year, thanks to the coordinated efforts of many.

Project Track Champion is a wheelchair-accessible race car which will provide those with special needs an opportunity to take a ride in a race car down a race track. Through the efforts of Toronto Motorsports Park, Voices Unlimited, Community Living Haldimand, the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and Project Track Champion car owner Denny Snyder, about 150 individuals with disabilities will be able to partake in this program during the weekend. The car will be driven by several race drivers from both the PMRA and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, including PMRA regulars Eric Latino of Scarborough, Ontario and Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario as well as Melanie Simmons of Orillia, Ontario and Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario both who compete in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series.

Test and Tune will take place Friday, May 21. Round one of qualifying for the Quick 32 teams is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22 with the PMRA following right behind. The other two qualifiers will take place during the Saturday afternoon.

Eliminations for the Quick 32 Sportsman Series begin at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, May 23, and round one of the PMRA eliminations begin at 1:00 p.m. The finals are scheduled to take place at 6:00 p.m. Sunday.

And for bragging rights of a different nature, O’Tools.ca Golf Cart Central will be hosting a golf car race Saturday night for those who wish to race their cart as well as use it as a tow vehicle.
