CAYUGA, ON – It has happened several years in the past, and once again the championship in the Pro Modified Racing Association was not decided until the last race of the final event.

For 2011, Vito Montesano held the lead throughout the season, but when it came to the final at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, his points leads was in question when Bruce Boland and Eric Latino pulled up to the lanes for the last race.

Both driving new cars this season, Boland had qualified number two in the field with a 6.000, 236.80, and Latino had taken the top spot with a 5.996, 242.98, setting the meet’s Low ET and Top Speed benchmarks. Both were previous PMRA event winners this year.

Boland and his crew staged and made ready for the pass first, then Latino lined up, getting settled before the tree was lit. But Latino fouled at the line, and Boland went on to a 5.943, 240.08 pass to take the win.

CAYUGA, ON – When the competitors in the Pro Modified Racing Association take to the track this weekend at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park,  not only will the 2011 champion be crowned, three event winners will also be declared.

The final elimination in the fourth round of the six-race PMRA season was postponed from the August 5-7 race at Grand Bend, and although qualifying was completed at the recent “Thunder by the Beach” race at Grand Bend, elimination rounds were postponed in this fifth race due to rain.

So this September 9-11 final appearance for 2011 will see event winners in both round four and round five of the season, along with a complete qualifying/elimination event at Cayuga. PMRA officials will finish the fifth race before completing the fourth race final.

GRAND BEND, ON – Racing in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series was postponed over the Labor Day weekend due to inclement weather.

The racing, part of the Teamsters “Thunder by the Beach” weekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex, could not continue after qualifying due to the constant rain.

The event will be completed during the sixth and final race of the series at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park September 9-11.

“It’s unfortunate we could not get this show in,” noted Bruce Mehlenbacher, Director of Operation for all three drag race series. “Grand Bend officials and track workers tried all they could to keep the track, but the constant rain forced the postponement.”

While the qualifying sessions were completed at Grand Bend, only one elimination round in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the PBSS was completed. Eliminations for this postponed race will be held during the qualifying sessions for the upcoming Cayuga event, along with the twice-postponed final rounds of all three series from the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals held at Grand Bend August 5-7. There will be a test and tune session Friday, September 9, while racing will begin Saturday September 10.
