Lucas Oil, Pat Musi Racing Engines & Musi Racing Continue Longtime Partnership for 2019 Season
MOORESVILLE, NC — Lucas Oil announced today that its longtime relationship with Pat Musi Racing Engines and
Musi Racing will continue for the 2019 season on a number of different fronts.
Lucas Oil will share the primary sponsorship with Edelbrock on Frank Brandao’s record-setting Pro Nitrous 2018 Dodge Dart driven by standout driver Lizzy Musi, while the partnership will also extend into the engine shop for Pat Musi Racing Engines. The company has proudly used Lucas Oil’s proven products for more than a decade with an impressive track record.
“Lucas Oil is extremely proud to return in 2019 with Musi Racing and driver Lizzy Musi,” Lucas Oil Motorsports Manager Tom Bogner said. “We’re always looking for partners that can help us bring awareness to our products, and we enjoy working with Pat and the entire Musi family. Lizzy is a very talented driver who has already put together a number of exciting records using Lucas Oil products, and I’m looking forward to seeing the results on the dyno and on the track in 2019. We also like the strong connection with Edelbrock on her Dodge Dart and in Pat’s engine shop, putting us alongside another strong American performance aftermarket company.”
Musi/Franklin win 2018 Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars
Jason Harris takes Musi power to Championship victory
PITTSBORO, NC – The 2018 Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars is one for the history books. Although a quick look at the
2018 season Pro Nitrous pole setters shows incredible parity in the class, all but one of those drivers relies on Musi Racing Engines power. When it was all said and done after Virginia, a Musi driver was on top of the pack seven out of eight events, with Jay Cox giving Buck Racing Engines one lone #1 qualifier award at the second tour stop.
The incredible part of the Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars dynamic is that only one driver was able to repeat the pole position all year. Tommy Franklin topped Pro Nitrous qualifying at the season opener and then again at the Drag Wars. Other #1 qualifying awards in the first half of the season went to Musi customers Jason Harris and Randy Weatherford.
At the PDRA Fall Nationals at Darlington Dragway, Lizzy Musi went to the top with her 3.677 effort at an incredible 207.28 MPH, becoming the first female of 2018 to hold bragging rights with the coveted Nitrous Bottle Trophy.
New Nitrous ET & Speed Records for Pat Musi Racing Engines
MOORESVILLE, NC — In both 1/8-mile PDRA competition and NHRA Pro Mod’s 1/4-mile battleground, Pat Musi
Racing Engines continues to propel its customers to new nitrous-assisted performance records.
During the PDRA Fall Nationals at Darlington Dragway on October 6, relative newcomer Danny Sauro scored the first win of his career in Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous presented by MoTeC, using Musi power to work his way through eliminations before meeting fellow Musi customer and two-time defending champion Tommy Franklin in the final round. Sauro defeated Franklin with a record-setting elapsed time of 3.652 seconds.
“It was a great weekend, and I can’t thank my family and crew enough for all their support,” Sauro said. “I also have to thank the Musi family. They’ve been such a huge help during my time in Pro Nitrous, and they build the best engines in the business.”
Pat Musi Racing Engines Wins Fourth Consecutive Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars
MOORESVILLE, NC — Another outstanding racing season has led to more accolades for Pat Musi Racing Engines,
as the company has claimed the PDRA Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars for a fourth consecutive year. The Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars trophy is awarded to the engine builder who claims the most No. 1 qualifiers in the PDRA’s Pro Nitrous class, and Pat Musi Racing Engines has now enjoyed an incredible four-year run of success in the talent-heavy class.
This season’s success has been even more noteworthy for the Mooresville, NC-based engine builder, as the company claimed the No. 1 qualifier at four of the first five PDRA races this year. With two races still remaining in the season, Pat Musi Racing Engines has already secured the title, which makes this Nitrous Wars victory the most satisfying yet for Musi.
“It’s certainly exciting to win the Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars for a fourth straight year, but what’s really satisfying is doing it with this many races left in the season,” Pat Musi said. “We’ve never sewn it up that early and that continues to show the progress we’re making with our engines. We haven’t become content with our success and it’s important for us to continue to push forward and stay out in front in Pro Nitrous.”
Lizzy Musi set to debut King Kong 7 at Firecracker Nationals
MOORESVILLE, NC – Lizzy Musi and car owner, Frank Brandao, recently took delivery of a brand new Jerry Bickel-
built Dodge Dart. The car is in the final prep stages at Musi Racing Engines and will hit the concrete for the first time at Virginia Motorsports Park for the PDRA Firecracker Nationals, June 29 and 30.
The PDRA has opened up two days of testing on Wednesday and Thursday prior to the event, a prime opportunity for Lizzy to make some shakedown passes in the new whip, predictably named King Kong 7.
In full preparation to continue their Pro Nitrous Championship chase, the Edelbrock-backed Musi/Brandao team will also bring King Kong 6 to the event, warding off any setbacks from new car blues.
“We’re excited for the new car,” stated Pat Musi, car tuner and owner of Musi Racing Engines. “We’re bringing lots of momentum into Virginia. Virginia is a good race for us. She’s won multiple times there, so it’s a good luck track for us. She’s second in points so hopefully she can move up. We hope to run the new car, but whichever car is the most comfortable for Lizzy during testing is the one we’ll race with.”
Both cars will remain race ready in the Musi stable with the same engine combination, although King Kong 6 has already been sold. “The old car has been sold to some friends of mine in the Middle East,” explained Musi. “He’s allowing us to use it and keep the car here for now. They’re really good friends.”
Musi Strengthens Relationship with Edelbrock in 2018
MOORESVILLE, NC — After another successful season and a run that now includes nine championships in the past
five years, Pat Musi Racing Engines again has big expectations as the 2018 racing season begins.
It comes after a successful off-season that included Pat Musi Racing Engines and Edelbrock announcing an increased partnership at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) trade show in Indianapolis last December. The industry giant was also revealed as a primary sponsor for Lizzy Musi and her 2018 racing season, which begins at the PDRA season-opener this weekend at GALOT Motorsports Park in Benson, NC.
“We’re really excited that Edelbrock is going to be along for the ride with Lizzy and they really stepped up,” Pat Musi said. “To be involved with a company like that, it’s been great. They want to get into racing more and make an even bigger effort there, and the deal with Lizzy will bring more exposure. Having a company like Edelbrock behind you is a big deal.”
Pat Musi Racing Engines and Edelbrock Set for Exciting Announcement at PRI Show
MOORESVILLE, NC — After another successful racing season, Pat Musi Racing Engines will reveal an exciting
announcement with longtime partner Edelbrock during the annual Performance Racing Industry (PRI) trade show at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
The announcement will take place at 2 p.m. EST on Friday, Dec. 8, at the Edelbrock booth (Booth 1713).
Pat Musi first started working with Edelbrock nearly 15 years ago, forming a strong and lasting friendship with Vic Edelbrock Jr., whose father founded the company in 1938. Vic Edelbrock Jr. passed away on June 7 this year at the age of 80, but the relationship between the two companies has continued, something Musi is grateful for as a way to honor his longtime friend.
“It is a tremendous thrill for me to continue our relationship with Edelbrock and our announcement at the PRI show will be another exciting step in our partnership,” Pat Musi said. “Vic and I worked on a lot of good stuff over the years and I’m glad we can carry that on. It’s really an honor for me to do so.”
Musi Racing Engines/Tommy Franklin Win 2017 Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars
PITTSBORO, NC – The 2017 Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars produced a number of stars throughout the season. The
Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars event titles, awarded to the number one qualifier of Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous presented by MoTeC, traded throughout the season between three engine builders and four drivers.
Jay Cox and his Buck Racing Engines power got the first coveted nitrous bottle trophy of the season, but quickly handed the title to Musi Racing Engines’ President, Lizzy Musi in her King Kong Dart. The title stayed with Musi Racing Engines for the third stop, the Spring Nationals, with Tommy Franklin qualifying on top of the field. Cox got his second and final Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars title in Maryland, before Franklin went on a tear, getting the number one qualifying spot for three of the final four events. Jim Laurita snagged the number one at Tulsa Raceway Park, awarding Reher-Morrison Racing Engines a Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars title.
Musi Engines Remain Atop Pro Nitrous
MOORESVILLE, NC — Once again, Musi Racing Engines customers are topping PDRA Pro Nitrous. Tommy
Franklin secured the 2017 Pro Nitrous world championship, successfully defending his 2016 championship. En route to this latest title, Franklin had four number-one qualifier awards, effectively giving him and Musi Racing Engines the 2017 Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars title as well. Lizzy Musi also secured a number-one qualifying position, giving Musi Racing Engines the top spot at five of the seven events in 2017.
As has been the case for several seasons, Lizzy continued to run the fastest speeds in Pro Nitrous throughout the season, continually resetting her own record. She ended the 2017 season on a high note, winning the World Finals in Virginia while recording three of the fastest passes in Pro Nitrous history and tying her own national record with a 206.54 MPH run. Franklin was the low qualifier with a record-setting 3.653 pass. Musi Racing Engines now holds both the elapsed time and speed records in Pro Nitrous.
King Kong Unleashed at Season Opener to Reset Pro Nitrous MPH Record
PITTSBORO, NC – Lizzy Musi had held the Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous presented by MoTeC National MPH
Record since May of last season. But after a wildly successful winter season overseas, she was ready to do it again.
Musi won two of the six races in the Arabian Drag Racing League series, becoming the first woman to win a Pro Nitrous event there. Her first event back on American soil, they took the car straight off the plane to Mad Mule at GALOT Motorsports Park. What happened next shocked them all, as she and “King Kong” went a 3.66. The Musi Racing Engines performance continued throughout the event and earned her the win.
