LODRS KICK OFF NORTHWEST RACING IN IDAHO

Boise, ID – The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northwest Division arrives at Firebird Raceway for the first of six events in the division. This Friday through Sunday, May 5 – 7, 2017. Drivers will be racing to earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

The NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series and the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars are running in conjunction with the event along with these Lucas Oil Series sportsman classes: Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s JBS Top Sportsman Series and Rig Rentals Top Dragster Series will make their appearances at the event as well. Tickets are $15 on Friday, and $20 on Saturday and Sunday, with children 15 and under admitted free daily with a paid adult. The schedule is as follows:

COWIE AND LINDBERG LEAD WINNERS IN CHARLOTTE

CHARLOTTE, NC – Shawn Cowie and Johan Lindberg raced to victory at this weekend’s NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway. Lindberg scored his first NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series national event win in Top Alcohol Funny Car; while Cowie picked up his sixth in Top Alcohol Dragster.

Lindbergh, of Sweden, advanced to his first national final round. Scoring the advantage off the line, Lindberg, never trailed earning his first national event win. Lindberg scored a 5.551 second lap at 260.66 mph in the final against Steve Gasparelli, West Covina, Calif., who had a clean pass from the start but was unable to rundown Lindberg.

LODRS SPORTSMAN RACERS RETURN TO TEXAS MOTORPLEX

ENNIS, TX – In the final results from Texas Motorplex and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, 2015 National Comp Eliminator Champion, Craig Bourgeois, Metairie, La., battled back took home the win in a close finish.

Bourgeois, as the number five qualifier worked his way through the field and ran 6.870 seconds at 185.08 mph in his final round victory over number one qualifier, Kevin Self, Caddo, Okla., who clocked a runner up pass in at 7.707 seconds, 170.79 mph.

In Super Comp Britt Cummings, Hammond, La. faced off against Jake Levatino, La Place, La., and posted a winning run of 8.929 seconds, 176.28 mph in his 2011 Phantom. Levatino drove an 8.929 second, 171.58 mph lap for his runner up finish.

CUMMINGS WINS MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT AT MOTORPLEX

ENNIS, TX – Slate Cummings, Hammond, La., took home the win in the NHRA Moser Sportsman Shootout at Texas Motorplex and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

Cummings worked his way through the 16-car field made up of drivers in seven different NHRA classes, knocking out Christopher Dodd, Double Oak, Texas, in the final with a time of 5.946 seconds in his Moser Engineering sponsored ’03 Cavalier. Cummings took a nice starting line advantage and it was over after that as the quicker Dodd could not make up the difference as Cummings took the win and the $5,000 purse from Moser Engineering. Cummings had excellent reaction times throughout eliminations beating Jacob Pit, Austin Williams and defending Moser Shootout Champion Ray Dew on his way to the final.

SPECIALTY EVENTS TO SHOWCASE JEGS SPORTSNATIONALS SATURDAY ACTION

GLENDORA, CA – The JEGS NHRA SPORTSnationals presented by Quick Fuel will feature an assortment of specialty events over Memorial Day weekend at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky. Beginning Saturday morning and running throughout the day, racers will be shooting to make the qualified fields that will then face off in eliminations for prize money, bragging rights and a trip to Saturday’s Winner’s Circle celebration.

Kicking things off on Saturday morning, fans will be treated to heads-up, wheel standing class racing in Stock and Super Stock that will feature the Hemi Shootout for the popular ’68 Hemi Barracudas and ’68 Dodge Darts with upwards of 20 entries expected to compete.

IGNITOR HELPS TO LAUNCH HISTORIC 50TH YEAR OF RACING AT FIREBIRD

EAGLE, ID – The oldest major event in the Pacific Northwest, the NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor Opener presented by Peterson Chevrolet returns to western Idaho on the weekend of May 5-7. This year’s Ignitor is earmarked to help commemorate 50 years of racing at Firebird.

Taking place in the northwest foothills above Idaho’s capital city of Boise, nearly 400 racers are anticipated for the opening stop in the Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Race Series.

The Ignitor will also mark the second stop in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series in what has been coined the Stinker Stores Nitro Knockout for the AA/Funny Car class.

NHRA LUCAS SERIES KICKS OFF IN INDY

INDIANAPOLIS – The Spring Spectacle of Speed at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, April 28-30, kicks off the NHRA North Central Division 2017 series. The North Central division will host its first of seven races this year, and the first of two regional events at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

Racing categories include Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Brodix/Steve Schmidt Top Sportsman Series and Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series will also run in conjunction with the event. Moser Engineering is also presenting the DRAW/RFC Super Shootouts that will be contested on Friday. Tickets are $10 each day; children 12 and under are free. The schedule is as follows:

NHRA LUCAS OIL RACING SERIES LANDS AT TEXAS MOTORPLEX

ENNIS, TX – Texas Motorplex will play host to the NHRA South Central Division on April 28-30. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s SDPC Raceshop Top Sportsman and Top Dragster Series will also be run in conjunction with the event.

Saturday’s action will be highlighted by the NHRA Moser Sportsman Shootout with racers from seven different classes battling it out for a posted purse of $15,000. Defending South Central Division Moser Sportsman Shootout Champion­­ ­Ray Dew ­­­­­­­has once again qualified for the 16-car field and is eager to defend his title. Former national champion Austin Williams is qualified in both Stock and Super Comp and is looking to dethrone Dew.

DENSO Sponsors NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Racer Angie Smith Smith aims for the winner’s circle on DENSO Iridium spark plugs

LONG BEACH, CA – DENSO Products and Services Americas, an affiliate of leading global automotive supplier DENSO Corp., has partnered with Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Angie Smith as her lead sponsor for four weekend contests of the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. The first event, the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, takes place April 28-30 at Smith’s hometown racetrack, zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C.

After extensive off-season testing, Smith is racing on DENSO Iridium spark plugs for the entire 2017 season. A member of the Matt Smith Racing Team, she is within three points of breaking into the top 10 rankings for a shot at the championship.

“I started off the season with a lot of momentum and I’m getting great results on the track,” said Smith, who rides a Buell V-Twin at speeds of nearly 198 mph. “I am on a mission to get our DENSO Pro Stock Motorcycle into the winner’s circle this year!”
