DOUG KALITTA WINS LAS VEGAS MISSION FOODS CHALLENGE AND SECOND NO. 1 QUALIFIER

LAS VEGAS, NV – Doug Kalitta saved his best for the last qualifying session when the Mac Tools Toyota team won the Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge. At the same time, the 2023 Top Fuel champ grabbed the No. 1 qualifier for tomorrow’s NHRA Four-Wide Nationals on The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The drivers who advanced to the quarterfinals in Pomona, Calif., two weeks ago raced in today’s Mission Foods Challenge in a four-wide rematch of the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals from the last race. Kalitta raced Tony Stewart, his teammate, Shawn Langdon and Josh Hart in the semifinals. Kalitta and Stewart advanced to the final round.

In the final, Kalitta made a brilliant 3.730-second pass at 331.04 mph to win the Mission Foods Challenge over Stewart, Brittany Force and Clay Millican. With Shawn Langdon’s wins in the Phoenix and Pomona Mission Foods Challenges, Team Kalitta is 3-0 in this season in the special Saturday races. With the final run, Kalitta claimed the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals No. 1 qualifier. It was Kalitta’s second No. 1 qualifier of the season, his sixth at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the 60th of his career. SOLID RUNS SHOW J.R. TODD’S DHL TEAM PROGRESSING

YPSILANTI, MI – J.R. Todd understands the plan his DHL GR Supra team is implementing this season, and he knows, no matter how tempting it is, pushing the envelope won’t help. The 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series continues April 11-13, 2025 at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas.

The good news is that three races into the season, signs of progress continue to appear. Whether a solid run here, a faster-than-expected speed there or something the average fan doesn’t notice in a DHL GR Supra run, this team is taking the steps, and the time, it needs to create the baseline it hopes will carry it to success later in the year.

“We are definitely making progress, and I’d say there’s light at the end the tunnel,” Todd said. “At the end of the day, we just need more runs to get a handle on what we’re trying to do. The more runs we make down the track, the more we’re learning. We’re taking it step-by-step (with new Crew Chief Dickie Venables), and that’s the way to go.

“At the same time, it’s gonna be extremely hot in Vegas this weekend so that kind of makes it the equalizer. You really don’t have to throw down like you would in the cooler conditions. Looking back at some of the runs we made in Phoenix when the conditions were warmer, I’d say going to Vegas on a warm weekend is a positive.” Continue reading

DOUG KALITTA WANTS A PAIR OF FOUR-WIDE WINS

YPSILANTI, MI – One year ago, Doug Kalitta entered the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals having never won a four-wide race. He took care of that last year and looks to successfully defend his title this weekend. The 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series continues April 11-13, 2025 at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas.

It was one of the most-memorable moments of the season for the 2023 NHRA Top Fuel champion. Kalitta qualified No. 1 and ran the table to the first four-wide win of his career, and he wants to make it two of a kind this weekend on The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“Getting that first four-wide win last year in Las Vegas was a big deal so we’ll go there this weekend and try to do it again,” Kalitta said. “Having won in this format definitely gives you a little more confidence. The Mac Tools car’s been really good, and I’m looking forward to it for sure.”

Kalitta enters this weekend’s race in second place in the NHRA Top Fuel point standings. He trails his teammate, Shawn Langdon, by 77 points. He qualified fourth in Gainesville, but a mechanical issue ended his day in the second round. In Phoenix, he qualified No. 1 but lost to Langdon in the final round, and two weeks ago in Pomona, Calif., he qualified No. 2, but the Mac Tools car smoked the tires in the second round. LANGDON LOOKING FOR WIN NO. 1 AND THREE STRAIGHT IN LAS VEGAS

YPSILANTI, MI – Shawn Langdon will look for his first national event win in Las Vegas this weekend, but at the same time, he hopes to make it three straight wins. The 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series continues April 11-13, 2025 at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas.

Langdon has never won a national event on The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but he still has a shot at a third-straight win this weekend. After his runner-up finish in Gainesville and his Phoenix win, Langdon raced in the Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge at both Phoenix and Pomona and won both. Should he win the Mission Foods challenge this weekend, it would be three straight, but what he really wants is that national event win.

“It doesn’t bug me, but I would love to get a win in Vegas,” Langdon said. “It’s the one that’s alluded me since the beginning my career. I’ve won other classes in Vegas, but I just haven’t gotten a national event there yet.”

The 2013 Top Fuel champion enters this weekend’s race with a win, a runner-up and a semifinal in the season’s first three races. He enters with a 77-point lead in the Top Fuel point standings, and one would think this week’s NHRA Four-Wide Nationals would be among his best chances to check that Vegas victory off the list while, at the same time, winning his first four-wide race in Top Fuel.
