JIM DUNN RACING, MOONEYES AND HULL HEAD EAST TO CHICAGO

LONG BEACH, CA – Jim Dunn Racing is headed to the 2025 Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals in full throttle, and Funny Car driver Buddy Hull is ready to ride the momentum from a stellar showing at the American Rebel Light NHRA 4-Wide Nationals two weeks ago in Charlotte. Sporting a striking yellow livery celebrating 75 years of Jim Dunn Racing and Mooneyes, Hull’s hot rod will be one of the most nostalgic and eye-catching machines on the track at Route 66 Raceway this weekend, May 15-18.

“I can’t wait to hit the track in Chicago with this Mooneyes 75th anniversary hot rod,” said Buddy Hull. “The car looks absolutely incredible, and to represent two legendary names—Mooneyes and Jim Dunn Racing—on a stage like Route 66 is a dream come true. It’s a huge deal to bring Mooneyes back east with us. The fans eat it up when we bring out the Mooneyes car, and also when they can purchase their Mooneyes merch.”

Drag racing legend Jim Dunn and Mooneyes, the iconic brand known for its rich hot rod heritage, are commemorating their shared 75th anniversary by running a special celebratory livery at five races this season. Chicago fans are the second group lucky enough to experience the car in-person. In addition to catching a glimpse of the car, fans will also be able to purchase all of the classic Mooneyes merchandise at the fully-stocked Mooneyes souvenir trailer located in the midway. HULL ECSTATIC ABOUT CONSISTENCY COMING OUT OF FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS

CONCORD, NC – Not every race has to end with a Wally for it to be considered a successful weekend. No one can attest to that more in this moment than the Funny Car driver for Jim Dunn Racing, Buddy Hull. This weekend at the American Rebel Light NHRA 4-Wide Nationals, Hull matched his personal best elapsed time record, set a new personal best for speed and made a 4.0-second run on three out of five of his passes, the most consistently his car has run quickly since he stepped foot in the Funny Car class a little over a year ago.

“I am pumped up coming out of this race,” said Hull. “We are so close to running a 3-second run that I can taste it. Running low numbers so consistently fires me up in a way that is difficult to fully articulate to someone who doesn’t have the pleasure of driving one of these nitro Funny Cars. I am just so proud of the Jim Dunn Racing team this weekend.”

During the first round of qualifying on Friday, Hull made a 4.010 second pass at 318.77 mph. This run matched his personal best elapsed time that he set during qualifying at this same race in 2024. It was also his fastest run so far this year. He then bested that MPH, by making a 4.036 second, 320.97 mph pass during Q2, officially setting a new personal best in speed in the Funny Car. These two passes were enough to qualify Hull in the No. 15 position, in a crowded and competitive 18 car field. Continue reading

Hull is bringing momentum and confidence after a strong performance in Las Vegas. Driving the Jim Dunn Racing Funny Car backed by KGC Construction, Hull enters Charlotte looking to capitalize on his best reaction time of the season, achieved just two weeks ago at the Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals. That sharp starting line performance marked a turning point for the sophomore Funny Car driver, who continues to grow more comfortable and competitive with each pass.

“This car is coming around, and I’m coming around with it,” said Hull. “Vegas showed us that we’re making progress, and getting my best light of the season there just fired me up even more for Charlotte. Four-wide racing is wild, but I love it—it keeps you sharp and makes everything that much more intense.”

BUDDY HULL AND JIM DUNN RACING CLOSING IN ON SUCCESS LEAVING LAS VEGAS

LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals are a unique national event experience for the thousands of fans in attendance and the NHRA professional teams. For Jim Dunn Racing and driver Buddy Hull this weekend’s Four-Wide Nationals showed the team is moving in the right direction in a crowded Funny Car field. Through two days of qualifying on Friday and Saturday the KGC Construction Dodge Charger Funny Car was solidly positioned to race on Sunday while a handful of full-time teams battled to get into the 16-car qualified field. At the end of qualifying Hull was the No. 14 qualifier and he was slotted into a competitive quad comprised of No. 3 qualifier rookie Spencer Hyde, No. 6 qualifier rookie Hunter Green and No. 11 qualifier Dave Richards.

“I feel good about our chances in the first quad. We match up well with all three of the other Funny Cars and the four-wide format has shown anything can happen,” said Hull at the conclusion of qualifying. “This whole Jim Dunn Racing team has been making improvements every race this season and we can run with anyone I feel.”

In the first quad Hull and the KGC Construction Funny Car were lined up in lane four and as all four Funny Cars rolled into pre-stage the chance for two Funny Cars to advance to the next round was a toss-up. All four 12,000-horsepowered Funny Cars took off together with Hull cutting his best reaction time of the season a solid .097, second quickest of the quad. The KGC Construction Funny Car was charging down the fourth lane and as the finish line closed in its smoked the tires on a tricky track robbing Hull of valuable horsepower and he could not catch up to Richards to secure the second spot and a chance to advance to the second round. The team is primed for a thrilling performance as they look to make a statement during the first of three four-wide races this year.

“We’re feeling confident heading into the Four-Wide Nationals,” said Hull, who has increasingly made a name for himself in the Funny Car category. “We worked out some kinks with the car at the Winternationals a couple of weeks ago in Pomona, and we’re ready to go up against another crowded and competitive Funny Car field in Vegas. It’s really promising for the health of the Funny Car class when every race has 19-20 cars that all have the capability of qualifying. It makes every day of the race exciting for fans.”

The Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals are always an exhilarating spectacle, with four drivers competing at once across the track’s unique four-lane layout. This unique format not only tests drivers’ reaction times and strategy but also makes for some of the most thrilling racing of the season. HULL READY TO MAKE HISTORY AT THE WINTERNATIONALS WITH JIM DUNN RACING AND MOONEYES

LONG BEACH, CA – The 65th rendition of the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals is a historic occasion, made even more historic by the NHRA’s upcoming 75th anniversary. But legendary Funny Car team owner Jim Dunn and longtime partner Mooneyes will be hitting that 75th milestone first, and they’ll begin celebrating it this weekend, March 27-30. Driver for Jim Dunn Racing, Buddy Hull, now in his second Funny Car season, is looking forward to representing the team on such an important weekend.

“It’s an honor and a blessing in so many ways to be able to represent Jim Dunn Racing and Mooneyes,” said Hull. “I’m going to put those guys in the forefront to make sure that they get their showing in Pomona. Jim’s shop is just 15 minutes away from the track, and with Mooneyes there and Jim’s 50th anniversary car on display, it’s going to be cool. Jim treats me really well, and he’s taught me a whole lot. He and I work well together – we speak the same language. To drive for him is just the absolute best.”

The Winternationals is the third race out of 20 in the 2025 Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season, so all the teams and drivers are still getting back into the swing of things. The first two races of the year included rain and extreme heat, so this race will be the first where teams will hopefully get to experience more normal conditions. Despite the challenges that the weather has presented, Hull feels good about the trajectory of his performance. Continue reading

HULL LOOKING AHEAD TO BETTER CONDITIONS AFTER PHOENIX

CHANDLER, AZ – It’s impossible for every weekend to be a record setting race, and that is most definitely true of this weekend’s NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird Motorsports Park. Buddy Hull, the Funny Car driver for Jim Dunn Racing, battled it out against the heat, just like all his fellow Mission Foods Drag Racing Series competitors. After facing less than ideal conditions all weekend, Hull is eagerly looking a week ahead to the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals, March 27-30.

“No one had their best day at this race,” said Hull, a Dallas-based driver. “Everyone struggled a bit, including us. It’s good to keep that in mind, because otherwise it’s very easy to be hard on yourself when you’re dialed into competing at such a high level.”

After battling through his first three qualifying runs, Hull made his best pass of the weekend during the fourth round of qualifying, with a 4.247 second, 242.23 MPH run, earning him the No. 15 spot going into race day. He was paired against reigning World Champion and No. 2 qualifier, Austin Prock. After staging his car, when Hull hit the gas the clip disconnect came loose on the cable and detached from the throttle, causing him to idle down the racetrack against Prock’s 3.936 second, 324.75 MPH pass. HULL GOT IT DONE AT THE GATORNATIONALS

GAINESVILLE, FL – Buddy Hull arrived at the AMALIE Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals ready to stand on business. He now has a whole year of experience underneath his belt, and he proved what he and the Jim Dunn Racing team team are capable of after they advanced to the quarterfinals on race day. Despite having qualifying cut short, the team was able to make several consistent passes that showed their car is moving in the right direction. This means they will be able to make a strong run for a Top 10 position in the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.

“What a great way to start the year. We won the first round of the season at the Gatornationals. We have a good race car,” said Hull. “We have a race car that’s now showing signs of life. We have proven we can go down the track when it’s tough. We smoked the tires in the second round, and we don’t really know why yet. But we have a really good team, and we did a lot of good for our sponsor True Brand.”

Hull’s best run of the weekend came during the first round of eliminations on Sunday when he made a 4.048 second, 313.37 mph pass against fellow competitor Daniel Wilkerson. It was their first time meeting in competition, so Hull now holds a 1-0 record over Wilkerson.

BUDDY HULL BACK FOR MORE FUNNY CAR ACTION BEGINNING IN GAINESVILLE

LONG BEACH, CA – You can call Buddy Hull many things, a Funny Car driver, a business owner, a husband and father, among other things. But one thing you can’t call him anymore is a rookie. The driver for Jim Dunn Racing is setting out for his second season behind a nitro Funny Car at the AMALIE Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway, March 6-9. With one full-time season of racing underneath his belt, he’s ready to attack the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season with a vengeance driving the True Brand/Tillamook Funny Car.

“I’ll always look at my 2024 season fondly,” said Hull. “It was the year that the legendary Big Jim Dunn took a chance on me, and I made the leap from driving a Top Fuel dragster to a nitro Funny Car. That in and of itself was a dream come true. And then to hit other highlights, like winning my first round of racing at the historic U.S. Nationals, launching my show ‘Talkin’ Funny Cars with Buddy Hull’ on the NHRA FAST Channel, and bringing my newborn son, Maverick, out to the track for the first time. It was a great first Funny Car season, so I want to keep that momentum going and make my second season even better, on and off the track.” Continue reading
