BUDDY HULL ROLLS OUT OF NORWALK WITH CONSISTENCY
NORWALK, OH – The Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals marked the second race that Buddy Hull and Jim Dunn Racing put their
new nitro Funny Car to the test. It was another scorcher of a weekend, where 21 Funny Cars were competing for 16 spots on Sunday. After four solid qualifying runs made on Friday and Saturday, Hull made it safely into the field in the No. 16 spot.
“We have a brand-new Funny Car and we are making great strides with it,” said Hull. “This Jim Dunn Racing crew is working incredibly hard on and off the track. I think we will be in a great spot heading into the rest of the summer and the Countdown. I am continuing to get comfortable in this new car.”
Every single run that Hull made over the course of the weekend was in the 4-second range that the Jim Dunn Racing team is familiar with. Hull’s best pass came during the Q2 night run on Friday, when the track was at its coolest. He made a 4.127 second, 275.67 mph pass that secured the team in the show. While other cars competing were experiencing wide swings in ET due to the heat, Hull’s Blaze Exhaust Probes Funny Car was one of the most consistent cars all weekend. Continue reading
JIM DUNN RACING AND BUDDY HULL LOOKING TO STAY COOL WHEN NORWALK COMPETITION HEATS UP
LONG BEACH, CA – Dallas native and Jim Dunn Racing Funny Car driver Buddy Hull is fired up for his return to Summit Racing Equipment
Motorsports Park for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, June 26-29. Hull, who will be making his third appearance at the fan-favorite event and second in the Funny Car category, is carrying serious momentum into Norwalk following a solid showing at last weekend’s American Rebel Light Virginia NHRA Nationals.
Hull will once again pilot the eye-catching Blaze Exhaust Probes livery, a fiery design that turned heads during its debut last weekend. This race also marks the second event with Jim Dunn Racing’s new Nitro Funny Car, which Hull believes is already showing promising signs of becoming a hot-weather warrior.
“Virginia gave us a solid read on what this new car wants in the heat,” said Hull. “Now that we’ve got a better hot-weather tune-up under our belts, we’re eager to see what it can do in Norwalk. This place is known for its killer track surface and awesome fans, it’s one of the best tracks we compete at all year.” Continue reading
BUDDY HULL TAKES THE HEAT IN VIRGINIA
PETERSBURG, VA – While the American Rebel Light Virginia NHRA Nationals may seem like it’s the middle of the Mission Foods Drag
Racing Series season for most, for Buddy Hull and the Jim Dunn Racing team, it was a new beginning. Hull debuted a new car, with a new Blaze Exhaust Probes livery to match. After three runs made over the course of two days, it’s safe to say that this new car will help launch Hull in the right direction for the rest of the season.
“The car is completely different,” said Hull. “It drives so much better. The car does exactly what I tell it to do. I turn right, it goes right. I turn left, it goes left. So it’s a really nice car. We accomplished what we needed to this weekend. The car showed great promise for the rest of the year.”
Two weeks ago in Bristol, Hull had a trip in the sand trap that pushed the Jim Dunn Racing team to pull out a new car. This weekend was Hull’s first time making passes in it, but he adapted quickly. With each run that he made in the car, his elapsed time and speed improved. Coming into race day, Hull was competing out of the No. 14 qualifying position, going up against recent New England Nationals winner J.R. Todd. His first-round run was his best of the weekend, a 4.171 second pass at 294.56 mph. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to get past Todd’s 4.115 second, 307.86 mph pass. Continue reading

BUDDY HULL ADVANCES TO SECOND QUARTERFINAL IN A ROW AT THUNDER VALLEY
BRISTOL, TN – One of the best parts of drag racing are the unexpected upsets. Buddy Hull, the driver for Jim Dunn Racing, achieved another
first round upset for the second week in a row in the Mooneyes Funny Car against No. 1 qualifier and reigning World Champion Austin Prock, at the Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway. This first round win launched Hull into his third quarterfinals of his sophomore Funny Car season.
“We come out here to win. If we didn’t believe we have a chance at winning, we wouldn’t even show up,” said Hull. “We won first round, beating Austin Prock two races in a row. It’s fantastic, they’re hard to beat. They’re the best out here, there’s a reason why it says No. 1 on the side of their car. But we were prepared for them.”
Hull entered race day in the No. 16 position, after being met with difficult weather conditions throughout qualifying that made it challenging to get into a good groove. The Jim Dunn Racing team rallied and put together a tune up that they felt good about coming into race day. It paid off for them, when they were able to get a win past Austin Prock and John Force Racing. Continue reading
BUDDY HULL AND JIM DUNN RACING BRING FAN HORSEPOWER TO START OF SUPER GRIP THUNDER VALLEY NATIONALS ON THURSDAY
BRISTOL, TN – In advance of the 24th Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals Funny Car driver Buddy Hull and the Jim Dunn Racing
team participated in two kick-off events revving up the tri-city area fans. Hull, a New England Nationals quarterfinalist finisher, participated in the Speedway Children’s Charity Trap Shooting event. Along with fellow NHRA stars Top Fuel racer Ida Zetterstrom, nitro crew chiefs Todd Smith and Jon Schaffer, Hull joined local fans and Speedway Children’s Charity supporters at the annual afternoon event. Hull teamed with the East Tennessee Straight Shooters, members of the high school trapshooting team.
“It was a blast to meet the Straight Shooters and spend some time with these young men,” said Hull. “I love supporting Speedway Children’s Charities. We do events here, Charlotte and Sonoma. They are doing amazing work, and it was a joy to have some fun and raise some funds for that group.”
Later in the day Hull met up with his Jim Dunn Racing Funny Car teammates at a Bristol-area Food City for an autograph session and Funny Car display. The Jim Dunn Racing Mooneyes Funny Car along with Steve Johnson’s Pro Stock Motorcycle were on display with representatives from series sponsor Mission Foods. BUDDY HULL AND JIM DUNN RACING THUNDER INTO BRISTOL WITH MOONEYES ON DISPLAY AT FOOD CITY
LONG BEACH, CA – With confidence, horsepower, and momentum on his side, Funny Car driver Buddy Hull and Jim Dunn Racing are
charging into this weekend’s Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway, June 6-8, ready to make more noise in the ultra-competitive NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.
Fresh off a stellar performance at the NHRA New England Nationals, Hull turned heads and proved once again why he’s one of the most exciting drivers to watch in the class. Driving the Mooneyes Nitro Funny Car, Hull powered past No. 1 qualifier Austin Prock in a thrilling first-round upset and advanced to the quarterfinals, putting down competitive passes and showcasing his growing command of the 12,000-horsepower machine.
“The car was strong, I felt locked in, and we came out of New England with a lot to be proud of,” said Hull. “Beating the No. 1 qualifier is never easy, but it shows that this team has what it takes to run with the best. We’re not done yet.” Continue reading
HULL CLAWS HIS WAY TO THE QUARTERFINALS IN EPPING
EPPING, NH – It’s an exciting day at the races when the No. 16 qualifier takes out the No. 1 qualifier in the first round. Funny Car driver for
Jim Dunn Racing, Buddy Hull, did just that today at the 12th NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway. Driving the nostalgic, 75th anniversary Mooneyes Funny Car, Hull advanced past No. 1 qualifier and reigning World Champion Austin Prock. He then fell in the quarterfinals to Spencer Hyde, the leading Rookie of the Year contender and eventual race runner-up.
“Nitro Funny Cars, man. If you can just go to A to B in these things, you have a 50% chance of winning,” said Hull. “That’s just what it is. And in that first round, we went A to B today. It wasn’t an incredible run, but it got the job done. Austin Prock smoked the tires at the step, and unfortunately, we fell victim to the exact same mistake in the second round against Spencer Hyde. But again, that’s NHRA drag racing for you.”
Out of three qualifying attempts made between Friday and Saturday, Hull’s best run came during Q3, with a 4.190 second, 309.70 mph pass. During his second qualifying run, he had his best reaction time of the season of 0.079 seconds. All throughout the race weekend, he was consistently posting some of his best reaction times of his Funny Car career. Now in his sophomore season, Hull continues to get more and more confident in his ability to control the race car. Continue reading

Jim Dunn Racing and Buddy Hull will be bringing iconic Mooneyes look to Epping this weekend
LONG BEACH, CA – NHRA Funny Car driver Buddy Hull and the Jim Dunn Racing team are set to turn heads as they roll into the NHRA
New England Nationals at New England Dragway, May 30-June 1. Their striking 75th anniversary Mooneyes livery, making its third appearance this season, will make its furthest eastward debut, bringing a new level of style and performance to the east coast. Longtime sponsor Compass Facility Services will also be featured more prominently on the back wing of the nitro Funny Car for this race and the Thunder Valley Nationals.
Hull, who has been steadily building momentum throughout the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season, is eager to capitalize on the team’s progress. With strong qualifying performances and consistent gains in power and precision, Hull is ready to put his Funny Car through its paces on the legendary New England track.
“The Mooneyes livery is not just eye-catching – it’s a tribute to the spirit of hot rodding and the roots of our sport,” said Hull. “To bring this iconic design to the fans in New England, for the first time this far east, is something really special. We’ve been making solid progress with the Jim Dunn Racing team all year, and I’m feeling confident heading into Epping. We’re ready to show what this car can do.” Continue reading
BUDDY HULL BLOWS PAST CHICAGO
CHICAGO – Nothing about the sport of drag racing is predictable, and that rang true for Funny Car driver Buddy Hull, the Dallas-based
driver for Jim Dunn Racing at the Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by PEAK. Hull and the team battled the varying weather conditions all throughout qualifying but finished the weekend strong by making a solid pass in their Mooneyes 75th anniversary Funny Car.
“I love racing the Mooneyes Funny Car and I hate it we didn’t get to win more rounds today,” said Hull. “The fans in Chicago were great and we made some consistent runs. I knew we had a chance in the first round against Paul Lee. This team has been getting better every race.”
Day one of qualifying brought heat and high winds, a strong 4.057 second, 319.98 mph pass during Q2, and ended with a dust storm. Day two brought low temperatures, and the strategic decision to not make the fourth qualifying pass. Hull entered race day from the No. 15 spot, outqualifying four other competitive cars. He was paired against No. 2 qualifier Paul Lee for the first round. He made a solid 4.293 second, 252.95 mph pass, but it wasn’t enough against Lee’s 4.229 second, 225.11 mph run. Continue reading
