ATCO, NJ – Third-generation racer T.J. Coughlin claimed the biggest payday of his young career when he won the $25,000 top prize in Sunday’s AA Auto Salvage North East Four Day Bracket Championships presented by JEGS Mail Order at Atco Dragway.

Driving his JEGS.com dragster, Coughlin outlasted some of the toughest sportsman racers in the country to claim the win. In the decisive eighth round, Coughlin stopped Scott Bodmer of Beallsville, Md. Coughlin’s performance in the final round was exceptionally noteworthy as he left with a nearly perfect .005-second reaction time and ran right on his dial-in time of 7.53 seconds for the win.

“That was a much-needed victory,” said an obviously elated Coughlin. “Any win is good but $25,000 will help pay a lot of bills. It felt really good to turn on the win light in that final round. When you come this far, you always want to be able to close the deal.”

Mike Coughlin looking to hit the trifecta in Norwalk

Courtesy of Jegs

NORWALK, OH – With two consecutive wins and a commanding lead in the Division 3 Top Sportsman standings, Mike Coughlin is as hot as a firecracker in his JEGS.com hot rod. Now the two-time D3 champion is looking to make more fireworks as he heads to northwest Ohio for the resumption of last months’ rain-delayed B’Laster Cavalcade of Stars Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.

Coughlin, the 2007 and 2009 NHRA Division 3 Top Sportsman champion, is off to an outstanding start to his ’11 season, banking wins in Indianapolis and Joliet. His JEGS.com Chevy Cobalt is undefeated in 10 straight elimination rounds and he’s anxious to add to that total this weekend.

“So far, I don’t have a lot to complain about this season,” Coughlin said. “We’ve won the last two races and everything is going better than I had expected. Thanks to my team, including my father Jeg Sr., and our crew guys, Greg Cody and Tony Collier, our JEGS.com Cobalt has been very consistent this year and I’ve been able to focus almost 100-percent on my driving.

NORWALK, Ohio (June 22) – This weekend’s NHRA drag race in northeast Ohio will be a special one for JEGS.com drivers Troy Coughlin, his son Troy Jr., and daughters Meghan and Paige. That’s because the site of the race is just 80 miles from JEGS headquarters in Delaware, Ohio, the Coughlin’s longtime hometown.

“Norwalk is a great racetrack,” Coughlin said. “I’m excited to get there. We’ve got more than 300 JEGS associates who are going to come up, hang out, and watch the races. We’ve got to do well there in front of all them.

“And we’ll have a lot of family along for the ride as well. The Coughlin family’s pretty big, and my wife’s family also is coming out. It should be a slew of people, but it’ll be a good time. Talk about a support group – it’ll be pretty awesome.

Recent successes vaults Jeg Coughlin Jr. to top of BTE Power Rankings

Courtesy of Jegs

CARTERVILLE, IL – As the 2011 Sportsman drag racing season nears its midway point, the BTE Power Rankings on ThisIsBracketRacing.com have seen a change at the top.

As of the June 15 rankings, more than 600 sportsman competitors have earned points within the BTE Power Rankings and currently they are led by five-time NHRA World Champion Jeg Coughlin Jr.

Coughlin, who took a break from his highly successful NHRA Pro Stock career this season, has once again proven his versatility behind the wheel of several Team JEGS sportsman machines. His 42 Power Points have all been awarded in the last month and have come in a variety of vehicles and race formats.

A trip to the west coast for the JEGS Pacific SPORTSNationals paid handsome dividends with a near double-victory, as Coughlin claimed his first NHRA Super Comp victory in addition to runner-up honors in Super Gas.

A week later, he drove his vintage ’67 Chevy II Wagon to a runner-up finish in the Door Car Shootout event at the K&N Spring Fling in Bristol, Tenn.

Just last weekend, Coughlin turned in an incredible performance by claiming three big dollar event wins in one day at the Ultimate 64 Shootout in Cleves, Ohio.
