DSR Vegas Pre-race Team Reports – They are Ready!

Hagan ready to get to work at Las Vegas in Rocky Boots Funny Car, two races remain in Countdown to the Championship playoffMatt Hagan - Topeka

BROWNSBURG, INThere’s work to be done at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend for Matt Hagan and the Rocky Boots/Mopar Funny Car team, and they are ready for the challenge.At the previous NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event two weeks ago near Reading, Pa., Hagan relinquished possession of the points lead in the Funny Car class to 15-time champion John Force. Hagan had led the points since racing at Englishtown, N.J., in early June.

The Rocky Boots team led by crew chief Dickie Venables tested on Oct. 9 at Lucas Oil Raceway near Indianapolis. It was Venable’s first test session with the team this year.

Hagan ousted in second round by DSR teammate Capps, ranks No. 2 in NHRA Countdown to Championship standings

READING, PA Matt Hagan’s Mopar/Rocky Boots Funny Car got bit on Sunday during the 29th annual NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Matt Hagan - TopekaSeries eliminations at Maple Grove Raceway.
Hagan’s Dodge Charger R/T had been the picture of consistency throughout four rounds of qualifying and also in the first round of eliminations at the picturesque facility near Reading, Pa.

After posting a 4.100-second lap for the opening round win against Tony Pedregon, Hagan was paired against Don Schumacher Racing teammate Ron Capps in the second round of eliminations in 80-degree weather.

Crew chief Dickie Venables and Hagan knew it would be a tough race against fellow DSR crew chief Rahn Tobler.

Capps will charge ahead Sunday at Maple Grove Raceway in fight for NHRA Mello Yello Funny Car world championship

READING, PA Ron Capps and his NAPA AUTO PARTS team know what they have to do Sunday during championship eliminations of Capps - Topeka, Comp Plusthe NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway near Reading, Pa.

He has to win four rounds and leave with his fourth NHRA event title of the year in order to continue to chase his first NHRA Funny Car world championship. And with three events remaining in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season he believes he has to win all of them.

Adding to the challenge facing Capps and crew chief Rahn Tobler is that the team had a frustrating qualifying performance that leaves them seeded 12th for eliminations and a first-round date with Don Schumacher Racing teammate Johnny Gray.

Beckman, Hagan third and fourth to lead DSR Funny Cars while teammate Schumacher third in Top Fuel at Maple Grove

READING, PA – After chilly and wet weather a year ago at the NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway created record-breaking racing DSRconditions, racers were greeted by mid-80s and sunny skies on Friday at the fabled track near Reading that was ideal for fans and pretty good for racers.

Reigning world champion Jack Beckman in the Odyssey Battery Dodge Charger R/T was the quickest for Don Schumacher Racing and holds the No. 3 provisional qualifying position with a run of 4.034 seconds at 318.99 mph.

Right on his bumper is Matt Hagan’s time of 4.035 (319.45) to put the Mopar/Rocky Boots Dodge fourth heading to Saturday’s last two qualifying sessions before championship eliminations on Sunday. DSR teammates Johnny Gray is fifth for Alex’s Lemonade Stand and NAPA AUTO PARTS’ Ron Capps is 12th.

DSR ready for Maple Grove!

Brown tickled pink with win near St. Louis as Matco team gets back into Championship race heading to Maple Grove

DSR Antron Brown will be racing for a cause this weekend at Maple Grove Raceway and fighting for a chance to defend his NHRA Top Fuel world championship.

For the second consecutive year, his Don Schumacher Racing dragster will be wrapped in pink and black to help the Matco Tools’ “Tools for the Cause” campaign benefitting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.

And for the second straight year, Brown hopes that his trip to Maple Grove can at least be as good as the one last year and maybe a little better.

Brown heads for New York City honor Monday fresh from winning Top Fuel title in Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park

MADISON, IL – When Antron Brown walks onto the stage Monday night at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City, he will be honored for AntronToyotaCar2winning the 2012 NHRA Top Fuel world championship during the 28th annual Great Sports Legends Dinner to benefit The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis.

When he’s introduced along with such world famous athletes as James Worthy, Terry Bradshaw, Dave Winfield, Shawn Johnson and Nick Faldo by emcee Brian Williams of NBC Nightly News, Williams can add that Brown also is the most recent winner in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.

Brown with crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald along with members of the Toyota/Matco Tools team put their Don Schumacher Racing dragster into the winner’s circle Sunday after winning the AAA Insurance Midwest NHRA Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis.

Beckman, Valvoline MaxLife team gains ground in championship with runner-up finish at NHRA Midwest Nationals near St. Louis
DSRMadison, IL A door opened for Jack Beckman on Sunday in the third of six Countdown to the Championship events in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, and it was his Valvoline MaxLife/MTS Mail for Wounded Warriors team that turned the knob.

Beckman entered the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals event at Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis 76 points behind Don Schumacher Racing teammate Matt Hagan, who is ranked No. 1.

Hagan’s crew chief Todd Smith and assistant Terry Snyder placed Beckman in the No. 8 qualifying position in the final round of qualifying on Saturday and nearly repeated that same 4.07-second pass for the first round of Sunday’s eliminations when Beckman defeated Alexis DeJoria.

Hagan picks up career-best fifth No. 1 qualifying position of 2013 at Gateway!

MADISON, IL Matt Hagan picked up a career-best fifth No. 1 qualifying position of the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Matt Hagan - Englishtown - Competeion plus, Roger richardsduring qualifying for the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park.
Hagan’s 4.001-second lap at 320 mph during Friday night qualifying held through Saturday’s two qualifying sessions at the facility near St. Louis. Crew chief Dickie Venables also tuned Hagan to the quickest lap of the first session on Friday, picking up six bonus points in qualifying.
“Dickie and (assistant crew chief Michael Knudsen) they were like ‘Let’s go put a 3 on the board’ and you get in the car and your eyes get as big as saucers,” Hagan said of his Friday night run. “It’s still a phenomenal feeling; just having the opportunity to go out there and try to run a 3 is pretty cool, especially here in St. Louis. They have a great track and we had great conditions.”

Hagan holds Midwest Funny Car pole with Gateway records; DSR teammate Schumacher is No. 2 in Top Fuel with speed mark

DSRTheir Mopar/Rocky Boots Dodge Charger R/T earned the provisional pole Friday evening when Hagan completed his run in 4.001 seconds at 320.20 mph that set Gateway Motorsports Park NHRA Funny Car records for elapsed time and speed on the opening day of the AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals near St. Louis.

World champion driver Antron Brown to be honored Monday during Great Sports Legends Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria

BROWNSBURG, IN Reigning NHRA Top Fuel world champion Antron Brown will be honored along an illustrious group of other world Antron Brown - US Nationals - Comp Plus - Roger Richardsrenown athletes on Monday evening in New York City at the 28th annual Great Sports Legends Dinner to benefit The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis.

Joining Brown at the Waldorf-Astoria will be Hall-of-Famers Terry Bradshaw from the NFL, James Worthy from the NBA, and former New York Yankee Dave Winfield, along with Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson, golfer Nick Faldo, jockey Gary Stevens and former WNBA great Teresa Edwards.

Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly will receive the 2013 Inspiration Award, and two-time NBA champion Kenny Smith will be presented the 2013 Buoniconti Fund Award. Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News, will serve as master of ceremonies.
