Matco’s reigning NHRA Top Fuel world champion Brown to visit students at Chaffey College on Nov. 6 before Finals

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA – Antron Brown, the NHRA world championship driver of the Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster, will visit Antron Brown - Roger Richards - Comp Plusstudents at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga on Nov. 6 on the eve of the NHRA Finals at Pomona, Calif.

The former college track star at Mercer Community College in his home state of New Jersey will speak to Chaffey students about education and career choices before competing in the Nov. 7-10 season finale at Auto Club Raceway

“I really enjoy the school visits we do for Matco (Tools),” said Brown, 37, who was crowned the NHRA champion a year ago at Pomona for Don Schumacher Racing. “I was like many of these students not too long ago when I was at Mercer College. It’s nice to give back and speak to them about their career paths and the importance of focusing on education.

DSR veteran Okuhara to serve as Beckman’s interim crew chief

BROWNSBURG, IN Don Schumacher Racing director of racing and veteran crew chief Todd Okuhara will oversee the running of DSR’s DSRMTS Mail for Wounded Warriors/Valvoline Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car at the Nov. 7-10 NHRA season-finale at Pomona, Calif.

Okuhara will lead the team with driver Jack Beckman and serve as interim crew chief until a permanent replacement is named for the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.

Smith relieved as crew chief for DSR’s Valvoline/MTS Funny Car team

LAS VEGAS, NV – Todd Smith has been relieved of his duties as crew chief for Don Schumacher Racing’s Valvoline MaxLife/MTS Jack Beckman - TopekaDodger Charger R/T Funny Car effective immediately.

DSR owner Don Schumacher made the decision Sunday at the NHRA Toyota Nationals in the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.

Smith joined DSR to be the crew chief for driver Jack Beckman early in the 2012 season. The team won three titles en route to earning the 2012 NHRA Funny Car world championship.

U.S. Army’s Schumacher Falls Out of Championship Contention at Las Vegas

Meanwhile, his fellow U.S. Army Racing driver and DSR teammate Antron Brown left Las Vegas with a mathematical chance of winning his second consecutive Top Fuel title at the season finale two weeks hence after running the table today and emerging with his fourth event title of the season and second of this year’s Countdown to the Championship.

TOMMY JOHNSON JR. TO REPLACE GRAY – Pitch Energy to Continue Sponsorship

Las Vegas, NV – Veteran racer Tommy Johnson Jr. was named Sunday to replace Johnny Gray in 2014 as driver of DSR’s Pitch Energy DSRFunny Car.

Gray, who sponsored the team this year with his sister Terry Chandler to honor their late father John R. Gray is retiring from full-time nitro racing after the NHRA Finals in two weeks. Chandler will take over the team’s sponsorship and selected Johnson for the driving job.

Chandler has designated the 2014 season as “A Year of Giving,” and plans to utilize the Funny Car to raise awareness for various yet-to-be-named charities throughout the year.

Brown puts Matco dragster in Vegas winner’s circle to move closer to defending Top Fuel championship

LAS VEGAS, NV Antron Brown is not ready to concede defense of his 2012 NHRA Top Fuel world championship, but Don Antron Brown - Roger Richards - Comp PlusSchumacher Racing’s quest for a third straight Funny Car world championship came to an end Sunday in the NHRA Toyota Nationals at Las Vegas.

Brown won his fourth Mello Yello Series title of the season in his third consecutive championship round to jump from fourth to second in the championship standings. But only one event remains – in two weeks at Pomona, Calif. – and he still has a mountain to climb to catch points leader Shawn Langdon who left The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with a 102-point lead.

The most a driver can earn at the NHRA Finals is 150 points.

DSR’s top world championship contenders lose ground at Vegas; Schumacher, Beckman with No. 3 spots heading into Sunday

LAS VEGAS, NV Only eight rounds of championship eliminations remain in the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season Spencer Massey - Comp Plus - Roger Richardsbeginning with Sunday’s final day of the Toyota Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

And time is running out for Don Schumacher Racing’s Spencer Massey in Top Fuel and Matt Hagan in Funny Car – DSR’s best chances to catch the points leaders – as the penultimate event of the series leaves only the NHRA Finals in two weeks at Pomona, Calif., on the 24-event schedule.

In Top Fuel, Shawn Langdon arrived at Las Vegas as the Top Fuel leader and only padded his margin after being the quickest dragster in three of four qualifying sessions and was second in the other to earn 11 of a possible 12 bonus points. He extended his lead over No. 3-ranked Massey’s Battery Extender Powered by Schumacher dragster from 86 to 101.

DSR’s Hagan, Massey run strong but lose ground to leaders; Schumacher, Beckman lead team with No. 2 qualifying efforts

LAS VEGAS, NV Don Schumacher Racing drivers Matt Hagan in Funny Car and Spencer Massey in Top Fuel dragster knew they had to Matt Hagan - Roger Richards - Competition Plusmove quickly when racing began Friday at Las Vegas.

They both have ground to make up in the championship battle in the next-to-last event of the six-race NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoff in the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.

While Hagan’s Rocky Boots/Mopar Dodge Charger R/T team and Massey’s Battery Extender Powered by Schumacher group produced good runs in the NHRA Toyota Nationals, each lost ground to the drivers they are chasing for world championships.

Hagan lost three points to John Force and now trails him by 68. Massey fell from 86 to 92 points behind Al-Anabi Racing’s Shawn Langdon, who earned all six qualifying bonus points by being the quickest in both sessions.

They overcame a three-games-to-none deficit in their best-of-seven American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees to reach the 2004 World Series, then promptly erased 86 years of frustration by sweeping the Cardinals for the franchise’s first World Series title since 1918.

DSR drivers to appear at New York-New York Hotel & Casino for free autograph session Thursday evening before NHRA event

LAS VEGAS, NV Don Schumacher Racing’s seven drivers in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series will be featured at a free DSRautograph session from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the New York-New York Hotel & Casino lobby.

This marks the fourth consecutive year DSR has made the Las Vegas landmark its home in the entertainment capital of the world.

On the eve of this weekend’s Friday-Sunday NHRA Toyota Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, DSR’s reigning world champions Antron Brown and Jack Beckman will be joined by teammates Tony Schumacher, Spencer Massey, Ron Capps, Matt Hagan and Johnny Gray in the New York-New York lobby. Each driver will have free autograph cards and be available for photos.
