BROWNSBURG, IN – For the second year NHRA Top Fuel driver Antron Brown and sponsor Matco Tools teamed up to increase breast
cancer awareness through the “Tools for the Cause” campaign and raise funds for Susan G. Komen®.

The pink firesuit and helmet worn by Brown, crew shirts worn by the Matco Tools team and a diecast of the 2013 pink Tools for the Cause dragster will be auctioned off on eBay.com beginning on Nov. 25. All proceeds go directly to Susan G. Komen®.
Fill-in Knudsen steps up to tune Hagan to Pomona Finals title, helps DSR set new record with 23 NHRA titles in 2013 season
POMONA, CA – A close friend of Matt Hagan and member of the Mopar/Rocky Boots Funny Car team couldn’t come to this weekend’s
NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season finale in Southern California.
Their friend and crew chief, Dickie Venables, had to stay back in Indianapolis after having successful intestinal surgery on Wednesday. He was released from the hospital on Sunday.
Hagan and his crew, led at the Auto Club Finals by first-year assistant crew chief Michael Knudsen, could have passed the hat to collect enough money to send Venables flowers, candy or a really nice card.
Instead, the Mopar/Rocky team delivered an unbelievable weekend to the recuperating Venables that culminated Sunday with Hagan beating 2013 Funny Car world champion John Force in the championship round Sunday.
Brown takes it to wire but championship hopes go up in smoke; Hagan qualifies No. 2 to lead DSR battle for series runner-up spot
Racing Series season truly has been worthy of world champions.Matco’s Brown second best again, loses ground to points leader; Hagan roars to No. 4 spot in Mopar/Rocky Dodge Charger R/T
POMONA, CA – Antron Brown was the second quickest Top Fuel dragster for the second straight day of the NHRA Mello Yello Series
finale at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Calif.
Despite a run in 3.775 seconds at 322.42 mph Friday afternoon for Don Schumacher Racing’s Matco Tools team led by crew chiefs Brian Corradi, Brown actually lost one point in his longshot quest to defend his NHRA Top Fuel world championship.
For the second time in 24 hours, Brown was topped by points leader Shawn Langdon of Al-Anabi Racing with a run of 3.750 (327.03).
The quickest in each session earns three bonus points while the next quickest gets two. That drops Brown to 104 points out of first with two qualifying sessions left Saturday leading to Sunday’s championship eliminations.
Beckman holds provisional Funny Car pole at special Pomona, while DSR teammate Brown is second quickest in longshot battle
POMONA, CA – Jack Beckman’s life at the racetrack in Pomona, Calif., is filled with memories born there.
It is where he worked as a drag racing instructor when he learned he had Stage III lymphoma in 2004 and where his students celebrated after the disease went into remission.
It is where he hoisted the NHRA Funny Car world championship trophy a year ago for Don Schumacher Racing’s MTS Mail for Wounded Warriors/Valvoline Dodge Charger R/T team.
And seven years ago Thursday, he and Jenna, who he met at the Frank Hawley Drag Racing School, were married in the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum within a mile of the finish line at Auto Club Raceway.
Health sidelines DSR crew chief Venables for Pomona Finals
BROWNSBURG, IN – Don Schumacher Racing crew chief Dickie Venables will miss this weekend’s NHRA Mello Yello Series finale at
Pomona, Calif., while he recovers from a successful medical procedure he had Wednesday.
Venables, 49, who lives in Avon, Ind., led the Mopar/Rocky Boots Funny Car team to a miraculous season that included four victories in eight championship rounds and five No. 1 qualifying positions.
“We want Dickie to focus on his health and all of our thoughts this weekend will be with him,” said DSR owner Don Schumacher. “We need Dickie to be 100 percent as we get ready for the 2014 season.”
Beckman, MTS team to host Southern California’s Jerral Hancock at Pomona as NHRA season’s last salute to a wounded warrior
POMONA, CA – Rodger and Karen Comstock of Mail Terminal Services have the perfect way to end their 2013 season that featured the
MTS Mail for Wounded Warriors program through their sponsorship of the NHRA Funny Car driven by Jack Beckman of Norco, Calif.
On Saturday, they will host Jerral Steel Hancock of Lancaster, Calif., who will be the team’s VIP Hero of the Day during the NHRA Auto Club Nationals at the Mello Drag Racing Series event at Pomona, Calif.
Hancock was serving in the U.S. Army’s 1st Cavalry Division when the M-1A Abrams tank he was driving in 2007 on the streets of Baghdad, Iraq, was hit by an explosive device that destroyed the tank. Hancock, a single-father of two young children, lost his left arm, sustained major burns and is paralyzed below his shoulders.
U.S. Army Duo Heads to Auto Club Finals With One Chance at a Storybook Ending
POMONA, CA – The hunter and the hunted. A year ago this weekend, the U.S. Army driver duo of Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher and
Antron Brown arrived at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif., for the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series finale each relegated to one of those two roles in what turned out to be the season’s most tense and dramatic weekend.
As a testament to the fact the Army is the Nation’s preeminent leadership experience, where the Nation’s future leaders are developed and empowered with the confidence to take decisive action when needed and the flexibility to excel in constantly evolving situations, the U.S. Army driver duo occupied the top two spots in the standings. Schumacher, already a seven-time Top Fuel world champion in his U.S. Army Dragster for Don Schumacher Racing (DSR), was 65 points behind his teammate Brown, who was vying for an elusive first Top Fuel crown in his Matco Tools/U.S. Army Dragster for DSR.
Brown, Matco Tools team head to Pomona for Finals with chance to defend NHRA Top Fuel championship
the reigning Top Fuel champion of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.Brown won two of the first seven events this season, and has won two of the last three.
In between, however, the Matco Tools team stumbled and fell what seemed to be out of contention to win back-to-back championships when he was ranked ninth in points after the first race in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship when the team did not qualify for the playoff opener near Charlotte.
A hard charge over the last three Countdown events shows the team’s resilience that has driven Brown back into title contention.
