NORWALK, OH – Justin Ashley and the SCAG Power Equipment Toyota Top Fuel dragster team battled to victory Sunday at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park. SCAG Racing Funny Car teammates, Daniel Wilkerson in the SCAG Ford Mustang and Dave Richards in the BlueBird Turf / Versatran Mustang, each had quarterfinal finishes.

In his third consecutive final round, sixth of the season which includes a final quad appearance at the Las Vegas Four-Wide that earned him semifinal points, Ashley had a stellar .027 second reaction time coupled with a 3.931-second, 317.34 mph pass to defeat Clay Millican on a holeshot. Millican had a .089 reaction time with a 3.922, 322.34 pass.

“This is very exciting, Norwalk means a lot to me personally, my father won in Funny Car here in 2007 and ever since we started racing in Top Fuel, it was a dream of mine to win right here and that’s what we did today,” Ashley said. “It’s special. And the team did a great job all weekend long qualifying No. 1, navigating our way down the racetrack all race day long on a surface that was hot, slippery and very tricky. NORWALK, OH – Justin Ashley and the SCAG Power Equipment Toyota Top Fuel dragster team officially earned their first No. 1 qualifying position of the season while Daniel Wilkerson and his SCAG Ford Mustang picked up their second consecutive Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge victory Saturday at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park.

Ashley and his Mike Green and Tommy DeLago led SCAG Toyota team laid down a 3.752-second pass at 330.88 mph on Friday night to earn their first No. 1 of the season, seventh of Ashley’s career and first at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park.

“It’s pretty neat, you know, our first number one qualifier all year, and it’s important. We try to use qualifying the right way; it’s an opportunity to set ourselves up for Sunday, and we feel like we did a good job of that and also ended up qualifying number one,” Ashley said. “All that stuff really gets thrown away tomorrow, though. It doesn’t matter who you’re racing, whether you’re 1 or 16 or somewhere in between, anybody can win, especially in today’s Top Fuel class, but a No. 1 qualifier speaks highly of the guys that we have. DINWIDDIE, VA – Justin Ashley and the SCAG Power Equipment Toyota Top Fuel dragster team made their second consecutive final round appearance of the season Sunday at the American Rebel Light Beer NHRA Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park. In Funny Car, Daniel Wilkerson in the SCAG Power Equipment Ford Mustang team made a semifinal appearance and Dave Richards in the BlueBird Turf / Versatran hot rod had a quarterfinal exit.

Facing former world champion Shawn Langdon in the finals, the SCAG Toyota had several holes out and blew the blower off. Justin Ashley watched Langdon pull away to a 3.940 second pass at 319.67 mph while the injured SCAG Toyota dragster crossed the finish line in 4.167 at 227.92.

“We have a very hungry team right now. That’s our fifth final round in the first nine races and that’s something we should be very proud of,” said Ashley who was in both NHRA Four-Wide Nationals final quads and finished runner-up at the Route 66 Nationals in Chicago and at the Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tennessee. “This weekend these SCAG Racing guys were just outstanding. Tough conditions, quick turnarounds and they came through as they always do. We would’ve loved to win the race. We always expect to win the race, but the sport brings out the best in everybody. DINWIDDIE, VA – Daniel Wilkerson and the SCAG Power Equipment Ford Mustang team picked up their first Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty Challenge victory of the season Saturday while qualifying for the American Rebel Light Beer NHRA Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park just outside of Richmond.

Racing three-time world champion Ron Capps in the finals, Wilkerson handled the SCAG Mustang to the quickest pass of the third qualifying session with a 4.038-second pass at 320.74 mph. Capps came up short with a clean pass at 4.063 and 315.12.

“I’m just so proud of this whole SCAG Ford team,” said Wilkerson who earns three bonus championship points as well as a cash prize. “I feel like I’ve hosed this a couple times, and my team has been working through it so well. I’m so blessed, I’m so lucky to get to work with SCAG Power Equipment, Summit, Ford. My family isn’t here; they were there in Bristol. I put them through a lot of crap doing this and I’m sad they aren’t here, but I guess it just means we have to win the thing again next week in Norwalk, Ohio.”

In the first round, Wilkerson, in a rematch of the semifinal from the Thunder Valley Nationals, took down Paul Lee. Wilkerson made his quickest pass of qualifying, 4.022 at 320.36, to defeat Lee who had to shut off early coasting to a 4.521 at 191.43. Continue reading →

BRISTOL, TN – In its second season, SCAG Racing had their best on-track performance of the team’s history with Justin Ashley, driver of the SCAG Power Equipment Toyota Top Fuel dragster finishing runner-up, while Daniel Wilkerson in the SCAG Power Equipment Ford Mustang Funny Car and Dave Richards in the BlueBird Turf / Versatran Funny Car both made semifinal appearances.

After a rain delay, Justin Ashley and the SCAG Toyota team faced four-time world champion Steve Torrence in the 28th Top Fuel final round of Ashley’s career. Ashley had the starting line advantage but both dragsters would have tire smoke going over the tricky race track. Ashley would pedal it, but it wasn’t enough for Torrence who was already ahead and got his dragster hooked up and across the finish in 4.022 seconds and 325.37 mph while Ashley coasted to an 8.600 pass at just 82.60.

“It was a great weekend for SCAG Racing. I’m very happy with the success we had as well as Daniel and Dave. Today was all about consistency,” said Ashley. “The track presented a few unique challenges that we were able to overcome until we got to the finals. We gave it everything we had and will continue to do the same moving forward. It was awesome watching Mike, Tommy, and our entire SCAG Power Equipment Toyota team navigate the track so well. EPPING, NH – Justin Ashley and the SCAG Power Equipment Toyota Top Fuel dragster team made a quarterfinal appearance Sunday at the NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway. His Funny Car teammates, Daniel Wilkerson in the SCAG Ford Mustang and Dave Richards in the BlueBird Turf / Versatran machine, had first round exits.

Ashley and the SCAG Power Equipment Toyota team started their day from the No. 7 qualifying spot after a 3.717-second pass at 336.99 mph from the final qualifying session on Saturday. Racing against Josh Hart in the first round of eliminations, Ashley had a clean 3.723 pass at 338.34 mph to get the win while Hart smoked the tires for a 7.158 at 97.47.

In the second round, Ashley faced off with Top Fuel points leader and motorsports legend Tony Stewart. Ashley had the starting line advantage, but the SCAG Toyota dragster was up in smoke early for a 5.893-second pass at 118.90 mph. Stewart had a solid 3.733 at 330.96 for the win. Continue reading →
