Millican Moves Up in NHRA Mello Yello Points Standings

Mcleansboro, IL – After a several month hiatus from the Covid-19 suspension of racing events, NHRA Top Fuel driver Clay Millican moved into the 8th position in the NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel Points Standings. The popular Tennessean drove the Parts Plus Top Fuel Dragster to a quarter-final finish at the NHRA E3 Spark Plug Nationals this past weekend in Indianapolis, IN.

“Although we only got one qualifying run as rain showers hit the track on Saturday afternoon and prevented the chance to make a second run and reclaim the number one qualifying position; we knew our dragster was strong and would be a contender to win on Sunday” said Millican. After taking a first round win over Doug Foley, Millican faced Antron Brown in the quarter-finals. Although Millican had a razor sharp .049 reaction time and the starting line advantage, Brown made his quickest pass of the weekend for the win.

“Our concentration continues on winning rounds as points are now more critical than ever with the elimination of the countdown format but also plan to pick up a few NHRA Wallys on the way” concluded Millican.

Millican will be back in the driver’s seat of the Parts Plus, Your Car Your Data, Laris Motorsports Insurance Dragster at this coming weekend’s Lucas Oil NHRA Summernationals at Lucas Oil Raceway Park in Indianapolis.

NEW LOOK AND ENTHUSIASM FOR TEAM MILLICAN AS THE 2020 MELLO YELLO SERIES NEARS

Mcleansboro, IL – With 2019 a rebuilding year of sorts, a new look and a fresh wave of enthusiasm sets the stage for the Straightline Strategy Group and Top Fuel driver Clay Millican as the 2020 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series begins on February 6-9 in Pomona, CA.

With primary backing from Parts Plus and their collaboration with the national advocacy campaign Your Car. Your Data. Your Choice, plus major associate sponsor support from Laris Motorsports Insurance, driver Clay Millican is pumped to get the season underway. “I’ve been involved with the preparation and work that gets done during the off-season period for many years and this time has been especially productive for our team” he said.

“We saw some ups and down in 2019 with multiple final round appearances but wasn’t able to score an event Wally so Crew Chief Mike Kloeber and Car Chief Chris Menapace along with the entire crew have been working hard to ensure that will not be an issue in 2020” concluded Millican.

Your Car. Your Data. Your Choice.™ Returns as Co-Primary Sponsor at NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – The national consumer education and advocacy campaign Your Car. Your Data. Your Choice.™ returns as co-primary sponsor with Parts Plus on the Clay Millican-driven Straightline Strategy Group Top Fuel Dragster for the upcoming NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas, Oct. 31 – Nov. 3.

Millican first partnered with the Your Car. Your Data.™ campaign in June at the Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tennessee. Since then, he has stayed busy representing the advocacy campaign, most recently during a trip to Washington, D.C. where he, along with other drivers, voiced support for car owners’ and drivers’ right to access and control their car data. Following his visit, Millican wrote a guest column, “Car Data Not Just For Pro Racers” that was published in Automotive News (autonews.com) on Oct. 21.

It’s a simple principle, said Millican: “If you own your car, you should own every part of it – including the data it collects.”

Gut-Wrenching Loss Creates Determination for Millican and Parts Plus

READING, PA – At times races are won and lost by such small numbers and that was definitely the case for Parts Plus Top Fuel driver Clay Millican at the recent NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, IN.

Having qualified number 9 in the quickest Top Fuel dragster field in the history of the NHRA, Millican and crew felt optimistic with the Straightline Strategy Group owned, Parts Plus sponsored dragster going into the Labor Day eliminations.

“Our chassis had been front-halved just before the event and everything was stripped, cleaned, and put back together with no testing prior to qualifying at the US Nationals,” mentioned Millican. “We knew it might take a few runs to get everything squared away and we were fairly content with the 3.706 we posted in qualifying.”

In Millican’s first round match up, Doug Kalitta took the stripe by a mere .003 margin of victory as both dragsters ripped 3.721 elapsed times with the slight difference only in reaction times. That race turned out to be the closest match up in Top Fuel eliminations as Kalitta went on for the class win.

DENSO Back On Board With Millican At Northwest Nationals

Kent, WA – DENSO returns as a primary sponsor with the Straightline Strategy Group owned, Clay Millican driven Top Fuel Dragster this Friday through Sunday, August 2-4 at the Magic Dry Northwest Nationals in Seattle, Washington.

With Four Final Round Appearances, Millican Awaits a Winner’s Circle Celebration

SONOMA, CA – After an incredible runner-up finish in the Top Fuel Dragster category at the NHRA Mopar Mile High Nationals, Clay Millican awaits his return to the winner’s circle this coming weekend at the NHRA Sonoma Nationals in Sonoma, California.

To the surprise of many who had expected this year to be a rebuilding season for the team, Millican, who drives the powerful Parts Plus dragster, has gone to four final rounds in 2019 in Gainesville, Las Vegas, Charlotte and Denver. Wholesale changes over the winter months including a new ownership group, a new crew chief, and an all new crew was the basis for those predictions.

The team hasn’t been without challenges with six first round losses and some struggle during qualifying including this last weekend where they failed to reach the finish line under power.

Your Car. Your Data. Your Choice. Partners with Clay Millican as Co-Primary Sponsor at NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals

National campaign engages with popular sporting event to drive home importance of car data access and control

BRISTOL, TN – The national education and advocacy campaign Your Car. Your Data. Your Choice. will be a major sponsor of the Clay Millican-driven Top Fuel Dragster for the upcoming NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, TN, June 14 – 16. The campaign is a co-sponsor with Parts Plus for the Straightline Strategy Group dragster.

The campaign’s sponsorship helps bring urgent attention to an issue that has implications for car owners and drivers nationwide. Newer model cars today are equipped with advanced technologies that enable real-time, wireless transmission of data related to driver behavior, GPS location and vehicle health, including maintenance and repair information. As this technology advances, carmakers are locking in exclusive access to and control of car data, which could lead to greater inconvenience, greater cost and fewer options for repair and maintenance services for car owners.

Accessing and controlling data from the dragster allows crew chief Mike Kloeber to identify and solve potential problems in real time, which allows Millican to shave crucial milliseconds.

Early Defeat in Atlanta Does Not Deter Millican’s Enthusiasm for 2019

RICHMOND, VA – Heading into the Virginia Nationals, the Straightline Strategy Group, Parts Plus Top Fuel pilot Clay Millican continues to fight at the highest level of NHRA drag racing for win in 2019. A first round loss in the last event in Atlanta hasn’t dampened the spirits of the likeable Tennessee based driver.

Millican lost a close first round battle that featured his number eight qualified entry against Antron Brown’s number nine qualified entry in one of the best side by side runs of the day. Clay  clocked in a 3.779 at 320.89 mph, but Antron rolled through with a 3.771 ET for the win light.

“It was great to have the second quickest E.T. of eliminations day, but not against guy who had the best,” said Millican. “I would have preferred to face Antron in the final round, but that’s not the way it played out as we were both off a bit in qualifying that lead to our first round matchup.”
