HULL EMPHASIZES THAT WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS STAYS IN VEGAS

LAS VEGAS – The Funny Car class has never been more competitive, and the Ford Performance NHRA Nationals made that very clear this weekend with a crowded 21-car field. But what has made Jim Dunn Racing an iconic team for so long is how they never back down from a fight. That includes their driver, rookie Funny Car driver Buddy Hull.

“Vegas has proven to be a tough track for us this year, but it’s nothing we can’t handle and learn from,” said Hull. “We made four runs this weekend that gave us a lot of data that we can use going into the World Finals in Pomona. We have two weeks to go to work and continue to get better before one of the biggest events of the year.”

Out of two runs on Friday and two more runs on Saturday, Hull’s best pass of the weekend came during the fourth and final round of qualifying, with a 4.090 second, 311.27 mph run, handedly outrunning fellow competitor Jeff Diehl in the other lane. Unfortunately, this run was not enough to get the Jim Dunn Racing nitro Funny Car in the show, but the team is still optimistic about what they can take away from this weekend. Continue reading

Latest Episode of Talkin’ Funny Cars with Buddy Hull Features Funny Car World Champion J.R. Todd

DALLAS – Through the premier season of Talkin’ Funny Cars with Buddy Hull, the first year Funny Car driver has enjoyed wide ranging conversations with multi-time world champions Ron Capps, Cruz Pedregon and Matt Hagan as well as up-and-coming drivers like Daniel Wilkerson and Austin Prock. The latest episode is set to air on the NHRA FAST Channel on Wednesday, October 30, at 8:00 p.m. EST and 8:00 p.m. PST, and features a lively conversation with 2018 NHRA Funny Car champion J.R. Todd, driver of the DHL Toyota GR Supra Funny Car.

“I was so excited to sit down with J.R. and talk about our Funny Car paths,” said Hull. “I have always admired J.R. for how he handles himself behind the wheel and in front of the camera. He’s done it all in drag racing and talking with him about racing for Kalitta Motorsports and legendary team owner Connie Kalitta was pretty cool. What J.R. has done behind the scenes to make improvements in the Funny Car class is impressive and we got a chance to dive into those topics as well as just how cool it is to drive a nitro Funny Car. I have enjoyed talking with all the Funny Car drivers during this first season of the show but the J.R. episode turned out to be one of my favorites.”

Hull sat down with Todd before the Pep Boys NHRA Nationals in early September and the pair of drivers talked about how each of their careers got started in a unique fashion. During the conversation Todd talked about the significance of racing the DHL Toyota GR Supra Funny Car that bears the name of the late Scott Kalitta and how special this year’s Gatornationals win was for the entire Kalitta Motorsports organization. Todd also went behind the scenes on the input he was able to provide Toyota during the development process for the Toyota GR Supra Funny Car body and how he has been working to advance the development of a new steering wheel with former IndyCar driver Max Papis. HULL STAMPEDES THROUGH TEXAS FALL NATIONALS

DALLAS – Dallas-based businessman and nitro Funny Car driver Buddy Hull took the Texas Motorplex’s Stampede of Speed and the Texas NHRA Fall Nationals by storm this weekend in Ennis, Tex. Repping his season-long sponsor True Brand Products on the Jim Dunn Racing Funny Car, he took full advantage of the 10-day-long event’s activities.

“It was so great to have True Brand Products out here this weekend,” said Hull. “They’re a female-owned and family-operated company, which I highly respect. Plus, they were also highlighting the National Breast Cancer Foundation since it’s October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We love to sport the color pink during this time of year, and our blue and pink car this weekend looked amazing.”

Hull made all four qualifying runs on Friday and Saturday, including the Q2 night run on Friday, featuring the Motorplex’s ‘Battle for the Saddle’ event. Despite the Texas heat, his best run came during Q4 on Saturday, with a 4.113 second, 304.32 mph pass. Unfortunately, in a crowded and highly competitive 19-car field, it was not enough to make it to race day on Sunday. Continue reading

HULL PUTS ST. LOUIS IN REARVIEW MIRROR ON HIS WAY TO DALLAS

ST. LOUIS – Rookie Funny Car driver Buddy Hull is now walking away from a jam-packed three weeks that he will never forget – the first three races of his first ever Countdown experience. The NHRA Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology marked the first half of a busy Countdown schedule, that leads directly into Hull’s hometown race, the Texas NHRA Fall Nationals in Dallas, Texas. Hull and the Jim Dunn Racing team will be taking everything they learned over this three-week period into the final stretch of the season.

“What I like about three races in a row is that it’s good for the team to get into a groove,” said Hull. “This weekend, the service on our car was better than it’s been all year, because we have three weeks in a row of doing the same thing. Everyone’s in a routine, they’re conditioned. The part I dislike about it is the lack of rest or the time in-between to just think. We have to think about what we did right, what we did wrong, and make adjustments accordingly. But all in all, I enjoy it. I’d race every weekend if I could.”

After the two planned Friday qualifying runs were canceled because of rain, Hull made only two qualifying runs for the weekend on Saturday. He entered race day in the No. 14 spot, facing off against three-time world champion Ron Capps for the fourth time this season. Despite making an early exit on Sunday, Hull took the rest of the day to watch his competitors and continue to gear up for the Texas Fall Nationals. Continue reading

HULL PUSHING TO FURTHER QUALIFYING AND RACE DAY SUCCESS

LONG BEACH, CA – There is nothing like the feeling of being on the up and up. Buddy Hull, the rookie Funny Car driver for Jim Dunn Racing, is riding that feeling coming off the second Countdown race in a row where he was able to match his best qualifying effort of the season. Now moving into the third Countdown race of the year, the NHRA Midwest Nationals (September 27-29) at World Wide Technology Raceway, located just outside of St. Louis, Hull is ready to continue that upward momentum.

“Our team has improved by leaps and bounds since the beginning of the year, me included,” said Hull. “It’s crazy to see how far we have come in a fairly short time. I appreciate the way the other competitors in this field have continued to welcome me with open arms by sharing all kinds of tips and tricks to help me improve as a driver. I feel like I am constantly a sponge, soaking it all in.”

2024 marks Hull’s fourth appearance at the Midwest Nationals, making it one of the races he has the most history at. The Dallas-based driver is excited to make his return to this track for the first time competing in the Countdown. Hull is currently sitting in No. 12 in points, 67 points away from breaking into the Top 10, with four races left. Continue reading

HULL MATCHES BEST QUALIFYING EFFORT AT CAROLINA NATIONALS

CONCORD, NC – In his second Countdown race of his career, rookie Funny Car driver for Jim Dunn Racing Buddy Hull was able to match his best qualifying effort in back-to-back weekends at the NHRA Carolina Nationals, entering race day from the No. 12 spot at zMAX Dragway.

“Now that we’re inching up in qualifying, I know I’m doing my part as a driver,” said Hull. “I’m keeping the car in the middle of the groove. I’m working with Big Jim and Jon (Dunn) to improve my reaction times with the race car idling up a bit, and adding a little more tug, so that way, when I smash the pedal, the car really moves.”

After making three solid qualifying runs on Friday and Saturday, Hull faced off against Jack Beckman in round one of eliminations on Sunday. It was Hull’s first time running against Beckman, who is currently competing for points for a sidelined John Force. Hull had previously raced against Force twice earlier this season. When Hull took off from the starting line, he like many other drivers during round one, smoked the tires. Continue reading

“This sport is tough but when you work at it you see the results,” said Hull. “This Jim Dunn Racing team has found its stride for the Countdown.
