Jim Dunn Racing Celebrates 75 Years with Mooneyes at Winternationals
LONG BEACH, CA – Two iconic brands have been fixtures in the drag racing universe for nearly a century. Jim Dunn Racing and Mooneyes
are celebrating 75 years of success heading into the NHRA Winternationals this weekend at In-N-Out Pomona Dragstrip. A host of special events will take place through the weekend but the underlying theme for both entities will be their passion for the sport and the unwavering love the fans have for each organization. A special Mooneyes Funny Car will be piloted by Jim Dunn Racing driver Buddy Hull and the team’s pit will be in a unique area showing off their race weekend efforts for fans from around the world.
“We have been so fortunate to have a company like Mooneyes support Jim Dunn Racing for decades,” said Jon Dunn. “The Winternationals is a magical event in drag racing and Pomona is our home track. My dad loves drag racing and seeing the Mooneyes Funny Car turn on win lights. Some of the biggest moments over the past 75 years have come from seeing the success of the Mooneyes Funny Car.” Continue reading
HULL LOOKING AHEAD TO BETTER CONDITIONS AFTER PHOENIX
CHANDLER, AZ – It’s impossible for every weekend to be a record setting race, and that is most definitely true of this weekend’s NHRA
Arizona Nationals at Firebird Motorsports Park. Buddy Hull, the Funny Car driver for Jim Dunn Racing, battled it out against the heat, just like all his fellow Mission Foods Drag Racing Series competitors. After facing less than ideal conditions all weekend, Hull is eagerly looking a week ahead to the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals, March 27-30.
“No one had their best day at this race,” said Hull, a Dallas-based driver. “Everyone struggled a bit, including us. It’s good to keep that in mind, because otherwise it’s very easy to be hard on yourself when you’re dialed into competing at such a high level.”
After battling through his first three qualifying runs, Hull made his best pass of the weekend during the fourth round of qualifying, with a 4.247 second, 242.23 MPH run, earning him the No. 15 spot going into race day. He was paired against reigning World Champion and No. 2 qualifier, Austin Prock. After staging his car, when Hull hit the gas the clip disconnect came loose on the cable and detached from the throttle, causing him to idle down the racetrack against Prock’s 3.936 second, 324.75 MPH pass. HULL FLYING HIGH COMING INTO PHOENIX
LONG BEACH, CA – Buddy Hull is coming off one of the best weekends of his drag racing career, so he is ready to keep that momentum
flowing at the NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird Motorsports Park, just outside of Phoenix, Arizona, March 21-23. The driver for Jim Dunn Racing is currently sitting in the No. 8 spot in points for Funny Car, his debut in the Top 10, with plans to keep climbing from there.
“Gainesville was a very good weekend for us,” said Hull. “We made it to the quarterfinals after getting past Daniel Wilkerson in round one, and we made a run that was a career best at the 1/8th mile, which shows how much work Jon Dunn put into the car during the off-season. I think it’s a real indicator of how this season is going to go for us. Seeing real improvement through our results on the track.”
Two weeks ago, at the AMALIE Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, Hull made it to the second quarterfinal of his career, the first since his son, Maverick, was born in mid-August. He then fell during the second round to eventual race winner, Chad Green. Continue reading
HULL GOT IT DONE AT THE GATORNATIONALS
GAINESVILLE, FL – Buddy Hull arrived at the AMALIE Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals ready to stand on business. He now has a whole
year of experience underneath his belt, and he proved what he and the Jim Dunn Racing team team are capable of after they advanced to the quarterfinals on race day. Despite having qualifying cut short, the team was able to make several consistent passes that showed their car is moving in the right direction. This means they will be able to make a strong run for a Top 10 position in the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.
“What a great way to start the year. We won the first round of the season at the Gatornationals. We have a good race car,” said Hull. “We have a race car that’s now showing signs of life. We have proven we can go down the track when it’s tough. We smoked the tires in the second round, and we don’t really know why yet. But we have a really good team, and we did a lot of good for our sponsor True Brand.”
Hull’s best run of the weekend came during the first round of eliminations on Sunday when he made a 4.048 second, 313.37 mph pass against fellow competitor Daniel Wilkerson. It was their first time meeting in competition, so Hull now holds a 1-0 record over Wilkerson.

BUDDY HULL BACK FOR MORE FUNNY CAR ACTION BEGINNING IN GAINESVILLE
LONG BEACH, CA – You can call Buddy Hull many things, a Funny Car driver, a business owner, a husband and father, among other things.
But one thing you can’t call him anymore is a rookie. The driver for Jim Dunn Racing is setting out for his second season behind a nitro Funny Car at the AMALIE Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway, March 6-9. With one full-time season of racing underneath his belt, he’s ready to attack the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season with a vengeance driving the True Brand/Tillamook Funny Car.
“I’ll always look at my 2024 season fondly,” said Hull. “It was the year that the legendary Big Jim Dunn took a chance on me, and I made the leap from driving a Top Fuel dragster to a nitro Funny Car. That in and of itself was a dream come true. And then to hit other highlights, like winning my first round of racing at the historic U.S. Nationals, launching my show ‘Talkin’ Funny Cars with Buddy Hull’ on the NHRA FAST Channel, and bringing my newborn son, Maverick, out to the track for the first time. It was a great first Funny Car season, so I want to keep that momentum going and make my second season even better, on and off the track.” Continue reading

Meyer as the special guest this Wednesday, November 27 at 8 p.m. ET and 8 p.m. PT on the NHRA’s FAST Channel. HULL FINISHES FIRST FUNNY CAR SEASON LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT
POMONA, CA – Buddy Hull’s rookie Funny Car season finally came to a close with the conclusion of the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals this
weekend at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip. The driver for Jim Dunn Racing will remember this season for its many firsts, personal bests and intense competition.
“This season was huge for me, from start to finish,” said Hull. “It was my first season as a full-time driver. My first season in a nitro Funny Car. My first season as just a driver and not a team owner. My first season as a husband and dad. My first season as the host of Talkin’ Funny Cars with Buddy Hull. I have so much to be thankful for, and I owe it all to the Dunn family: Big Jim, Dianne, Jon and Johnna, and my wife and son, Madi and Maverick.”
Because of rain, the Funny Car class was only able to get one qualifying run in on Friday, instead of the scheduled two runs. With only three runs available to qualify, Hull knew the competition would be fierce to make the show on Sunday.
“We knew when we unloaded the trailer for this weekend that every car on the property had the potential to be able to qualify,” said Hull. “That’s why we knew we needed to bring our A-game and give the car all we had. Our first two runs here let us figure out several small issues with the car, which is why we felt pretty confident going into the third and final round of qualifying.” Continue reading
