JIM DUNN RACING AND BUDDY HULL TO REP USD AT NHRA ARIZONA NATIONALS

LONG BEACH, CA – Continuing to highlight the diverse group of corporate supporters Jim Dunn Racing and Funny Car driver Buddy Hull will be racing a USD branded nitro Funny Car at this weekend’s NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird Motorsports Park. With Hull behind the wheel as a rising star in the Funny Car ranks, the Jim Dunn entry will turn heads with the dynamic new-look design. Hull will be looking to make a move into the Funny Car Top Ten at the third race of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.

“We have had a longstanding relationship with USD and this race is in their backyard,” said Jon Dunn, with Jim Dunn Racing. “We are thrilled NHRA is returning to Firebird Motorsports Park and having the support of USD on our Funny Car will make this a special weekend. Buddy has been doing a great job behind the wheel and the competition is very tough out here. We are looking forward to an exciting weekend.”

Hull, who will be making his third Funny Car start driving for legendary Jim Dunn Racing, knows the action off the track is almost as important as the results on the track. As a high-energy driver and ambassador for all the Jim Dunn Racing sponsors Hull loves the idea of representing new companies at every race.

HULL THRILLED TO WOW FANS WITH MOONEYES FUNNY CAR AT WINTERNATIONALS

POMONA, CA – Full circle moments were made this weekend when Funny Car driver Buddy Hull debuted the Jim Dunn Mooneyes Funny Car body for the first time of his career at the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip.

“Growing up, I literally sat in the stands and watched Big Jim and Kenji Okazaki win the Big Bud Shootout with the Mooneyes Funny Car,” said Hull. “It’s crazy to me that I have those memories as a kid, and now as an adult I get to run the Mooneyes Funny Car. This weekend I’ve spent some time with the Mooneyes folks, and they’re just awesome people. To see the relationship that they have with Jim, Jon and Diane, always proves to me time and time again that they are so good to their sponsors. And I’m happy to be a part of that.”

Hull, driver for Jim Dunn Racing, emphasized how appreciative he was to have so much sponsorship support at the Winternationals – especially considering qualifying was cut short on Saturday due to rain. Many of his sponsors, like Mooneyes, are based in California and have strong ties to the area.

BUDDY HULL TO DEBUT MOONEYES FUNNY CAR AT WINTERNATIONALS

LONG BEACH, CA – After an exciting Funny Car debut at the Gatornationals, driver Buddy Hull is ready to take on the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip on March 21-24. Hull, a driver for Jim Dunn Racing, will be showcasing an iconic Jim Dunn Mooneyes Funny Car body for the first time this year.

“I am over the moon to be competing at the Winternationals again,” said Hull. “This weekend we’re switching the body on the car to have a retro Mooneyes look. We’re super happy about it and can’t wait for the world to see it. It’s a cool race car, and to debut it in California, which is the homeland of drag racing, will just be an incredible experience. Mooneyes has been a sponsor for Jim Dunn Racing for a long time, and to show off this iconic car and represent Big Jim is a big deal to me.”

Moon Equipment Company, a California-based manufacturer of nostalgic hot rod products such as Moon tanks, discs and valve covers, will wrap its classic yellow Mooneyes graphics on the Jim Dunn Racing Funny Car for this year’s Winternationals. Jim Dunn Racing and Mooneyes have a relationship dating back over thirty years, and Hull is excited to share in this legacy.

BUDDY HULL OPTIMISTIC AFTER FUNNY CAR CAREER START AT GATORNATIONALS

GAINESVILLE, FL – Dreams came true this weekend for driver Buddy Hull, who made his Funny Car debut at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida. The weekend was full of firsts for Hull – the first time representing himself as a driver for Jim Dunn Racing, the first time competing at the Gatornationals and the first time going rounds in a Funny Car.

“As a competitor it’s a lifelong dream to race here,” said Hull, who was piloting the Vertex Roofers and General Contractors Funny Car. “It’s kind of like my first trip to Indy for the US Nationals. I feel the same way about the Gatornationals. I’ve always had serious FOMO about all the guys both in Top Fuel and Funny Car who race the Gatornationals every year. The only way that this weekend would have been better is if we had won a round or two for Big Jim and all our sponsors. It’s a big deal to me and my team to represent well.”

In his first few qualifying sessions as a Top Fuel-turned-Funny Car driver, Hull made several solid runs. His second qualifying pass was the best of the weekend, topping out at 304.87 MPH and a 4.116-second ET. Hull would have loved to have made a fourth qualifying pass, but the final round of qualifying on Saturday was rained out.

Buddy Hull Ready for Funny Car Career Start at Gainesville

DALLAS, TX – Driver Buddy Hull is set to have the best year of his life, kicking it off at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. on March 7-10. For the first time in his career, he will be racing the entire NHRA season, and making the exciting transition from piloting a Top Fuel dragster to a Nitro Funny Car. If that wasn’t a big enough transition already, he will also be making his debut as a driver for Jim Dunn Racing.

This weekend will be the first Gatornationals event that Hull has ever competed in, and he’s never felt more ready for a race. Hull earned his crossover license in early February, and he and the Jim Dunn Racing team have spent the off-season testing the car and building up a team comradery.

“Outside of Indy and Pomona, what is more historic than the Gatornationals? I have been to the race a few times. Every time I have been, I have just thought about how badly I want to drive a race car at this race,” said Hull. “To finally get that opportunity to race at the Gatornationals is something that I have dreamed of. It is truly a dream come true. It took a lot of hard work to get here. I am going to focus and do my job as a driver, because we want nothing more than to put this Vertex Funny Car in the Winner’s Circle in Gainesville. We are ready to show off what this Jim Dunning Racing team is made of.”

Buddy Hull To Get Back to His Roots with Vertex Funny Car at Gatornationals

DALLAS, TX – Fan favorite driver Buddy Hull will make his Funny Car debut at the NHRA Gatornationals, but the Jim Dunn Racing driver will give a nod to his Top Fuel roots with a special Vertex Roofers and General Contractors livery. Hull made his professional debut at the Charlotte Four-Wide Nationals in 2021 racing the Vertex Roofers and General Contractors Top Fuel dragster. Hull has stepped away from his team ownership duties to drive full-time for the legendary Jim Dunn Racing team.

“My company, Vertex Roofers and General Contractors, was instrumental in getting my professional racing career started. I talked with Jim and Jon Dunn about this design for the first race and they gave me the green light,” said Hull, who has competed in nearly two dozen NHRA national events driving Top Fuel dragsters. “I want to thank everyone from Lescure Mechanical Services for being supportive of this design as well. I am very thankful to be driving for Jim Dunn Racing and I am looking forward to a very successful season with a strong start at the Gatornationals.”

BUDDY HULL ACHIEVES CAREER BESTS AT TEXAS FALL NATIONALS

ENNIS, TX – NHRA top end announcer Jason Galvin said it best, when he called Top Fuel driver and team owner, Buddy Hull, the “happiest first round loser he’s ever seen.” Hull, a Dallas-based business owner, claimed it’s impossible to not be thrilled when you make your career-quickest and fastest run ever, going against eventual race winner and longtime friend, Steve Torrence, at the NHRA Texas Fall Nationals today.

“I’m just so excited to be out here, competing in the 38th annual NHRA Texas Fall Nationals,” said Hull. “Dallas is my home track, because it’s a city that has poured into me as much as I have into it. On top of that, the Stampede of Speed hosted by the Texas Motorplex is just about as much fun as you can ever have.”

BUDDY HULL RACING FOR DSFNT AND TEXAS FANS AT TEXAS FALL NATIONALS

DALLAS, TX – Honorary Texan Buddy Hull is building his Top Fuel program on determination, humility and fun. The Illinois transplant has spent decades in the Dallas area building a number of successful businesses putting himself in a position to chase his dream of Top Fuel stardom and success in the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series. The former professional powerlifter harbors no illusions that the road to success would be paved with roses, but he also was not expecting as many thorns as he has experienced this season heading into the 38th annual NHRA Texas Fall Nationals, the final four-day event of the wildly popular Stampede of Speed. Hull who opened the 10-day motorsports and music extravaganza as one of the four professional drivers racing in the inaugural Texas Invitational match race last Saturday and Sunday.

“I am a very positive person, but my patience is really being tested this season,” said Hull. “We have such high expectations I sometimes forget we are a part-time team that is learning every race. I have the mentality that we can race with anyone and if you are going to be successful at this level you must have that mindset. Unfortunately, we aren’t there yet and we just have to keep our heads down and do the work. I have all the confidence in my team led by Mike Guger we will get there.”

BUDDY HULL HITS ST. LOUIS LIKE BOLT OF LIGHTNING

ST. LOUIS – Most NHRA drivers try to go fast as lightning, but for Top Fuel team owner and driver Buddy Hull, he took that saying a little too literally. While on his way to the NHRA Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology Raceway, the cab of his trailer was struck by lightning. The bad luck did not end there when he qualified in the No. 17 spot, just missing the race on Sunday. Luckily, his sponsor Baker Trucking in Murreyville, Illinois, was able to provide the team with a cab for the St. Louis and upcoming Texas Fall Nationals in Dallas.

“This is a tough one,” said Hull. “I don’t know of another team that has had some of the issues we have dealt with this season. We got struck by lightning getting to the race and then we miss the show on speed. The things that could have gone our way to get us that sixteenth spot and miniscule. My hat is off to the 16 cars that made the show. This is a tough, tough class and we are going to keep working hard.”

The Dallas business owner has been racing a limited schedule during the 2023 Camping World Drag Racing season, so every race is a chance to learn more in the cockpit and tune the car just a bit better. For smaller teams, the difference between a race weekend with three rounds of qualifying and four is huge.
