Early Exit for AB Motorsports Team in Richmond
NORTH DINWIDDIE, VA – Virginia Motorsports Park is one of only two tracks on the current NHRA Camping World Series tour where
three-time Top Fuel world champion Antron Brown has not finished his race day in the winner’s circle at least once. He’s come close, having powered to a runner-up finish in 2019, the last time an NHRA Camping World Series race was contested at the North Dinwiddie, Va. facility. After a three-year hiatus, the NHRA returned to VMP for the Virginia NHRA Nationals, and Brown was looking to close the deal. He qualified the Matco Tools dragster twelfth and faced last event’s winner, Mike Salinas, in round one of eliminations. Brown and Salinas launched off the line, and both drivers immediately lost traction. The two competitors were on and off the throttle, pedaling it down the track with Brown in the lead until just before the finish line when Salinas edged past for the win.
“There’s no doubt we’re struggling right now, and we need to keep plugging away to figure this Matco Tools dragster out for our partners like Lucas Oil, Toyota, and Hangsterfer’s,” said Brown, owner of AB Motorsports. “We’re going to test tomorrow here at Richmond. We think we found the gremlin, and we’re working to correct that. We had great support from our Matco distributors and customers this weekend, and we appreciate the ‘Matco Mafia’ here in Virginia supporting us. We’ll go home and regroup in Indy, get some rest over Memorial Day weekend, and come out swinging strong at Epping in a few weeks. We’ve done well there in the past, so that’s the perfect place to turn our season around.”

Brown, AB Motorsports Continue to Tweak Tune-up in Houston
BAYTOWN, TX – Houston Raceway Park is where Antron Brown picked up his career-first Top Fuel victory in 2008, and he was hoping for
another ‘first’ on Sunday at the NHRA SpringNationals as he made a run for his first win as an NHRA team owner.
Brown’s weekend got off to a promising start when he posted two solid runs during qualifying, clocking the fourth-quickest run of Q3 in addition to his 3.704-second Q1 pass which placed him sixth on the Top Fuel elimination ladder. The three-time world champ lined up opposite Clay Millican on Sunday morning, but his machine overpowered the track early into the run while Millican made a clean pass for the win.
“The track was going away a little bit with the sun coming out and we were just pressing hard,” said Brown of his first-round elimination run. “Our car has been really aggressive coming out of the jiggle zone, which is at about 80-feet out and we have to keep working on calming the car down there. It bit us in qualifying for Q2 and we eased it back and had it under control for Q3 and ran a great 3.71, but then it bit us again in the first round. Brian (Corradi), Mark (Oswald), and the boys are working hard and we need more laps. The more laps we make with this Matco Tools car for Toyota and Lucas Oil, the better we’ll get. We’re looking forward to going to Charlotte for the Four-Wide Nationals. We’ll get four qualifying laps, gather more data and R&D, and get ready and see if we can pull off a win at the Four-Wides.”
Western Technical College joins AB Motorsports as Official Career College of NHRA Top Fuel Team
BAYTOWN, TX – Western Technical College (WTC) has joined the AB Motorsports (ABM) roster of partners as the start-up team’s Official
Career College. The venture will see 20 of WTC’s elite students join ABM as part of a merit-based internship program this season.
In addition to ABM, WTC is one of four presenting sponsors of the NHRA’s Youth and Education Services (YES) Program that hosts thousands of students at the race track for a career day at 14 of the 22 NHRA races on the 2022 NHRA Camping World Series schedule. Brown and the Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster also will visit Western Tech’s Plaza Circle campus location as part of the school’s annual Motorsports Day in October.
“We are very excited to continue our relationship with Western Tech,” Brown said of the El Paso, Texas-based college. “We met our friends at Western Tech through Matco Tools and the relationship has blossomed and we’re excited to see it grow here at ABM. That’s really what it’s all about, the B2B and our partners working together.

Antron Brown Advances to Final Elimination Quad in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS – Antron Brown advanced to the final elimination quad on Sunday afternoon at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, effectively
improving his standing on the Top Fuel leaderboard by three positions.
The newly minted team owner was looking to rebound after a frustrating outing at the most recent NHRA race in Gainesville, Fla. and this weekend’s event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway appeared to be the ‘get healthy’ weekend Brown had been seeking. The three-time Top Fuel world champ posted the third-quickest run of the final qualifying session to place the Matco Tools dragster in the top half of the field, starting from the eighth seed on Sunday morning. Brown was first out of the gate during the first elimination round, and used that holeshot advantage to help him cross the finish line first, setting up a meeting with Clay Millican, Austin Prock, and Tony Schumacher in the second elimination quad. Once again, Brown’s machine-like reaction time coupled with a solid 3.749 E.T. helped him claim one of two win lights and earn a bid to round three.
The final elimination quad featured a juggernaut of heavy hitters with each lane occupied by a current or former world champion. Against Schumacher, Brittany Force, and Steve Torrence, Brown was quick off of the starting line but lost traction shortly after and was forced to give up the round win to Force and Torrence. By recording a semifinal appearance, Brown advanced into the Top 10, but he’s most impressed with the way his team was able to rebound and put together consistent full pulls throughout the weekend.
