Brown on a Roll as the Team Heads to Midwest Nationals
Madison, IL – With five Midwest Nationals trophies, championship-contender Antron Brown returns to St. Louis as the winningest nitro-
class driver in the track’s history. Brown and the Matco ‘Tools for the Cause’ team have raced to victory at three of the last five events (Topeka, Kan., Indianapolis, Charlotte).
Brown started the Countdown to the Championship ranked sixth, and has made major advances in the standings after powering to a semifinal finish in Reading, Pa., and the event win in Charlotte last weekend. Brown now occupies second place and is 43 points behind No. 1-ranked Justin Ashley.
Brown is campaigning the bright pink ‘Tools for the Cause’ livery during the month of October to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF):Throughout October, 15% of the sales from select TFC items sold will be donated directly to BCRF. Since ‘Tools for the Cause’ began in 2012, Matco has donated over two million dollars to breast cancer research. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to achieving prevention and a cure for breast cancer. They provide critical funding for cancer research worldwide to fuel advances in tumor biology, genetics, prevention, treatment, metastasis, and survivorship.
Antron Brown Keeps Countdown Momentum Rolling with NHRA Carolina Nationals Victory; Moves into Second in Top Fuel Standings
CONCORD, NC – For the second time in the last three races on the NHRA Camping World Series tour, three-time world champion Antron
Brown raced to victory in his Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster. Racing at the Betway NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway, Brown defeated technical alliance teammate Justin Ashley in the final round to move up to second in the Countdown to the Championship points.
Qualifying No. 7 with a 3.705 at 326.08-mph, Brown carried lane choice into what NHRA declared the Top Fuel marquee matchup of the first round, where he lined up against Rookie of the Year Austin Prock. In a rematch of the semifinals at Reading just a week ago, Prock took the early lead, but Brown drove past him to win with a 3.691 at 331.20.
In the second round, it was a battle between the previously No. 2 ranked Brittany Force vs. the No. 4 ranked Brown. Force went up in smoke early, and while Brown had his own issues mixing up cylinders down track, he managed a 3.733 E.T. at 287.23-mph for the win. Brown added to his round-win record against Force this season, going 2-0 in the Countdown and 5-0 over the course of their previous five elimination meetings.
Antron Brown Advances Two Playoff Positions in Reading; Moves up to Fourth
READING, PA – Antron Brown and the Matco Tools Top Fuel team carried the momentum from their big U.S. Nationals triumph into the
Pep Boys NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway, the first event of the six-race Countdown to the Championship.
Entering the race weekend ranked sixth in the standings, Brown successfully cracked into the ‘top five,’ having secured the No. 4 position on the Top Fuel leaderboard at the conclusion of Sunday’s elimination rounds. Brown’s two-spot jump came courtesy of a semifinal finish from the eighth qualifying position.
The New Jersey native who considers ‘the Grove’ to be a home track, started race day with a first-round victory over Josh Hart, which led to Brown and Hart swapping spots in the point standings. Round two pitted Brown against No. 1 qualifier and regular-season points leader, Brittany Force. The two-time winner in 2022 clocked a 3.730 E.T. while Force suffered mechanical issues in the opposite lane, allowing Brown to extend his round-win streak to six-in-a-row from the Indianapolis event and record his fourth elimination round-win over Force this season. By activating the win light, Brown advanced one more position up to fourth and set up a semifinal contest with eventual race winner Austin Prock. Brown and Prock were nearly even leaving the starting line and both drove into immediate tire smoke. The championship-challengers were on and off the throttle, treating fans to a thrilling pedalfest down the 1,000-foot stretch but it was Prock who was able to cross the finish line beams first, ending Brown’s day after the semifinals.
BROWN AND TEAM ARE ON A ROLL HEADING INTO READING
Reading, PA – Brown is a 14-time Countdown event winner, the most of any Top Fuel or Funny Car driver. The new team owner is pursuing a
fourth series title, and his first for AB Motorsports, as he begins his 2022 playoff run.
After struggling throughout the first half of the season, Brown and the Matco Tools team have enjoyed a recent hot streak that has seen them race to victory at two of the last three events (Topeka, Kan.; Indianapolis). Brown raced to the Reading winner’s circle in 2015 and 2016, and both of those seasons ended with Brown and the Matco Tools team being crowned the series champions.
The Reading event is a hometown race for both the New Jersey native, and longtime AB Motorsports supporter, Hangsterfer’s, which is headquartered in Mantua Township, N.J.
Brown oon Readiing, “Reading is a hometown race for me, being from New Jersey. I always enjoy going back there and I’m super pumped to return to Maple Grove Raceway and can’t wait to see all of the improvements the Koretsky family has made to the facility. We always have a good turnout of family and friends at this race, which I love, but this event also plays a major role in the Countdown to the Championship. It’s the start of the playoffs and a lot is at stake so we’re looking to go in there with our heads down, give it all we got, and see if we can qualify well, take it one round at a time and end up in that winner’s circle for the third time this year.”
NHRA Champion Antron Brown Warns Congress That Motorsports Is At Risk
Top Fuel Champion shares inspiring stories about the value and importance of racing, and why he is pushing for passage of the RPM Act
WASHINGTON, DC – Just days after winning the prestigious NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Antron Brown made his way to
Washington, D.C., to urge Congress to pass the SEMA-supported Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act. On Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022, the three-time Top Fuel world champion, who began his racing career nearly 40 years ago, appeared before Congress to share personal stories about the need for federal law to protect grassroots racing and tens of thousands of jobs in the motorsports parts industry.
With his wife, Billie Jo, and two sons, Anson and Adler, at his side, Brown shared how motorsports taught him to set goals, work hard to achieve them, and other important life lessons. Representing a four-generation family of racing professionals, Brown talked about how he began racing motorcycles at the age of four, has enjoyed a successful career with 70 NHRA wins, and became a team owner earlier this year. He continues to support and promote the NHRA to the community and youth groups, relaying the origins of the organization that was formed in 1951 to get hot rodders safely off the streets and onto the track.
Antron Brown Scores Second NHRA U.S. Nationals Win in Top Fuel, Fourth Overall
INDIANAPOLIS – Racing on the NHRA Camping World Series’ biggest stage, Antron Brown earned a monumental victory on Monday
afternoon at the NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. Brown secured his second win as a team owner when he drove his Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster to a 3.706-second pass at 321.65-mph to defeat points leader Brittany Force in the final round.
“It’s unbelievable,” Brown said of his 70th NHRA victory just moments after hopping out of his Matco Tools/Lucas Oil/Toyota dragster. “Thank God above, all the prayers, all the hard work. We’re making it happen. We’ve been working so hard for this. To be here in Indy, our hometown – I live eight miles from the track – I’m just super proud. My team did an incredible job. We did it. We brought it home.”
The U.S. Nationals final round was Brown’s third time facing Force this season, and he’s won all three matchups. It was Brown’s fourth time winning the prestigious Indy race, adding to his 2011 victory in Top Fuel and two wins in Pro Stock Motorcycle.
ANTRON BROWN NO STRANGER TO INDY
Indianapolis, IN – Antron Brown, a resident of nearby Pittsboro, Ind., has both Top Fuel and Pro Stock Motorcycle victories at Indianapolis,
and is seeking his first Indianapolis win as a team owner. The U.S. Nationals is a hometown event for AB Motorsports, which is headquartered two miles away from the famed Indy dragstrip in Brownsburg.
Adding to the race weekend excitement, the event will feature a 25-car Top Fuel field with only 16 drivers qualifying for Monday’s elimination show. Brown carries the momentum of his Topeka triumph and Brainerd quarterfinal finish into the ‘Big Go’ and enters the weekend ranked ninth in the standings. With Indy’s points-and-a-half format, the AB Motorsports team will be looking to make a move. Technically, Brown could finish the weekend ranked as high as fifth to start the 2022 Countdown to the Championship.
“We always look forward to Indy, it’s our biggest race of the year; the U.S. Nationals, the Big Go, but our Matco Tools team here at AB Motorsports is really geared up for this weekend at I.R.P., a Lucas Oil facility. The car has been running great. We had a solid test Monday after Brainerd. We have a few night runs under our belt, and we’re ready to throw down coming off of that 3.68 during the first round at Brainerd. We have some things to show and prove. We need to qualify well. That’s key. This will be a stout field with 25 cars and we need to qualify well, in the top five, and then take it one round at a time on race day on Monday and try to put our Matco dragster in the winner’s circle for all of our great partners like Lucas Oil and Toyota and Hangsterfer’s. We’re very excited.” explained Brown
Quarterfinal Finish at Lucas Oil Nationals for Top 10-Ranked AB Motorsports Team
BRAINERD, MN – Less than one week after powering to their first win of the season, the AB Motorsports team kept the momentum rolling
at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minnesota. Antron Brown and his Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster were solid during qualifying, earning the No. 5 seed after Brown clocked his best E.T. of the year in Saturday’s first session. Brown’s 3.701-second pass held up to be the third-quickest of the round and set up a Sunday morning match-up between the three-time Top Fuel world champ and Clay Millican. Against Millican, Brown once again reset his season-best E.T., taking the Matco Tools machine on a winning 3.688-second ride to extend his round win count to five in a row.
In the quarterfinals, Brown faced Steve Torrence, his final-round opponent from last week’s Topeka, Kansas event, and was looking to add to his 34-20 round-win tally over his longtime friend. Unfortunately for Brown, his chances at making a run for another Wally trophy were cut short when he stood on the throttle and immediately lost traction. He pedaled his machine in an attempt to chase Torrence down but his opponent was already too far down the track when he encountered issues of his own and Brown simply ran out of real estate.
“All-and-all it was a good weekend here at Brainerd for our Matco Tools team at the Lucas Oil Nationals,” said Brown, who maintained his Top 10 ranking in the Countdown point standings. “Things got tricky in the second round for all of the teams and we’re bummed about that because we wanted to keep making some strides in the points. We qualified in the top half of the field with that 3.70, our quickest pass of the year, and bettered that in the first round with that 3.68 and that was second-quick of the round.
With Win One Under Their Belt, AB Motorsports Looks to the Future at Brainerd
Brainerd, MN – Brown carries the momentum of last week’s win in Topeka into the Brainerd event. The Topeka triumph was Brown’s 53rd
Top Fuel victory, and first as a team owner. By powering the Matco Tools dragster to the winner’s circle last weekend in Kansas, Brown moved into the Top 10 in the points rankings, and is looking to maintain his Top 10 ranking this weekend at the next to the last event of NHRA’s regular season. Brown has been victorious in both the Top Fuel and Pro Stock Motorcycle categories in Brainerd.
“Once you get your chance, you’ve got to shine and from here on out, we’re only going forward. We’re not going to slow down, and we didn’t show all we had (in Topeka). We’re right where we want to be, and we just want to keep getting better. A lot of good came out of Topeka and we’re really looking forward to Brainerd. It’s always been a great track for us. It’s going to be cooler weather and we’re looking at running in the 3.60s. Once we get that, it’s game on.
“To get that synergy there and to get everybody on the same page, it was a lot. We went through it, and it was like the school of hard knocks, but it was everybody coming together, believing in the same vision. We’re there now and we’re all in this together. That’s what this team is all about and that’s what makes this so special right now. We’re family and when we race, we give it all we got and let the chips fall where they may. The Countdown is two races away and we’re going to give it all we’ve got.” explained Brown.
Antron Brown Scores First Win as Team Owner; Moves into Top 10
TOPEKA, KS – Antron Brown scored his first win as an NHRA team owner on Sunday at the Menards NHRA Nationals presented by
PetArmor when he defeated Steve Torrence in the final round to capture his 53rd Top Fuel triumph, and 69th overall.
Brown’s AB Motorsports team, owned and operated by the three-time Top Fuel world champ, made its debut at the start of the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season with high hopes, but it’s no secret that the team struggled to find its footing through the first half of the season. Prior to Sunday’s victory, Brown had only five round wins on his 2022 scorecard but had sensed the team had turned a corner during the Western Swing, particularly in Seattle when the team was consistent in the heat while the majority of the field grappled with the challenging conditions.
“People weren’t even talking about us anymore, we weren’t even in the conversation. You could see it on some people’s expressions on their faces when the media was writing us off, but those on the outside didn’t know what was going on behind the ropes, and what goes on at the shop,” said Brown of the team’s documented struggles, which saw them advance beyond the first round only three times through the first 13 races.
