Johnny Ahten’s Bedtime Story from Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV – Johnny Ahten has a bedtime story to tell his grandchildren. It’s all about the 2011 Big O Tires Nationals. The story starts out with a pleasant tale of a hard working drag racer and team, with lots of perspiration,
anticipation, tire smoke and nitro fumes. Just as the story is getting good, it abruptly ends in a cliff hanger.
Johnny’s race weekend started out with a tire spinning first qualifying round. This was a good sign that the car was making the kind of power the CleanBoost Team knew it had. Second round qualifying on Friday saw good first half numbers during the planned shortened run. The team was excited about the data, and was ready to give the last session on Saturday their best shot yet.
This is where the story begins to make a plot twist. The professional classes in NHRA race to 1000 foot. Prior to Ahten’s last qualifying run, the pro’s had their session. In the changeover, the timers were inadvertently not changed to 1320 feet. Johnny made a good run and it looked good enough to beat the 5.539 bump spot. The problem was that without an official time in the quarter mile, the run was not recorded properly. The bottom line was Johnny Ahten and the CleanBoost Dragster was not able to qualify.

Las Vegas, NV – Johnny Ahten spent the summer fighting wild fires as a Fire Department Captain. Now it’s time to light
some. Ahten and his Top Alcohol dragster is looking to set the strip ablaze this weekend at the Big O Tires Nationals at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The last time down the track for the CleanBoost Performance Oil sponsored team was back in May at Bakersfield. Since then, they have been refining their attack. Going back to what they know, Crew Chief Al Ahten has sorted out the fuel system and it’s fine-tuned and ready to rumble.
“It’s looking to be a tough field because they have been running all year,” said Ahten. “It’s like cramming for an exam. We have been looking at our notes and we are playing catch-up, but we’ll be there.”
The National race at LVMS is the start of a three race weekend plan for Johnny Ahten and the team. Crew member Howard Katano is making the trip in from Hawaii, and along with Bob Ahten, Kevin Colvell and Todd Rockwell, they all look forward to the task.

“We ran an off pace 5.39, the long way down the track in Pomona” said Ahten, “after servicing the car, we were all pretty happy that not only is there plenty left in the tune up, but that all of our changes took us in the correct direction and we didn’t suffer any carnage.

Ahten and his team are still very happy with their end results.
Ahten’s team entered the gates to Pomona with a brand new fuel system and combination. At the end of their first round of eliminations, consultant, Don Jackson, and Crew Chief, Al Ahten, found that they had taken their Clean Boost Performance Oil / Island Renovations A/Fuel Dragster in the right direction.
“First round was our first planned full pass” noted Ahten, “The car was on a mid to high 5.20 pass according to the increments and started dropping holes around 900 feet. To say the least, we were very happy with those results with the little data we had acquired up to that point.

Santa Clarita, CA – The off season has proven to be short for many NHRA Drag Racing Teams. Johnny Ahten, pilot of
the Ahten Family Top Alcohol Dragster team is thrilled that the off season is rapidly coming to an end.
After finishing out the 2011 season placing 3rd within the 2010 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Pacific Division 7 points series, Ahten’s team is hoping to better that this year and they know with the competition, they have their work cut out for them.
“We were having some issues with our fuel system” noted Ahten, “that was causing us severe part carnage. We’ve consulted several crew chiefs, including Don Jackson. We changed some things around and are now armed with a new combination along with parts and we have high hopes moving into the new year.
