Beckman, Infinite Hero team shine on day two of PRO Winter Warm-up for DSR, Massey again fastest in Top Fuel

JUPITER, FL – Jack Beckman recently said he’s eager to win another NHRA race. If the performance of his Infinite Jack Beckman - Pro TestingHero Foundation Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car was any indication of his team’s potential, Beckman may soon be embracing the coveted Wally trophy again real soon.

Beckman, led by crew chief Jimmy Prock and assistants John Medlen and Chris Cunningham, logged the quickest Funny Car lap of the two-day PRO Winter Warm-up at Palm Beach International Raceway on Saturday evening in South Florida. The purple and black clad crew posted laps of 4.003 and 4.031-seconds to conclude the PRO portion of the teams five days of preseason testing.

“The car has been telling us that it’s too powerful,” Beckman said after the completion of testing in Jupiter, Fla. “We made a lot of changes this off season and you think you found the ceiling for horsepower and Jimmy Prock took it to a different level and it was just too wicked up here. We kept backing it down a little bit and it needed to be backed down a bunch and we backed it down to a four flat at 321 (mph). I’m pretty jazzed about Pomona.”

Beckman’s winless streak dates to the Madison, Ill. event at Gateway Motorsports Park in Sept. 2012 or 51 NHRA races. Needless to say, the two-time NHRA world champion is keen on adding a 16th career Funny Car win to his resume and preferably early in the 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.

“Had we left here without making any representative runs, I’d still feel optimistic because I feel that we have good numbers from last year, we just apply the changes and go to Pomona,” Beckman added. “Now I feel wonderful about our chances. A few good laps makes us feel all the extra effort was well worth it.”

Prock, who earned two NHRA Funny Car championships as a crew chief for John Force Racing, joined Team DSR last October before the fall Las Vegas event, the penultimate race on the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule.

In Top Fuel, Spencer Massey paced the dragster pack with another booming speed as the Red Fuel Powered by Schumacher dragster again posted a speed of more than 332 mph. Massey, with crew chiefs Todd Okuhara and Phil Shuler, drove the new-look matte black Red Fuel rail to a pass of 3.741-seconds at 332.02 mph on the final pass of testing. Massey blasted to a run of 332.26 mph on Friday evening at PBIR.
