Looking for redemption, Brogdon hopeful for another Phoenix win

PHOENIX, AZ – This weekend’s NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series stop at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park Brogdon Racinghas Pro Stock driver Rodger Brogdon excited about getting another win in the Valley of the Sun.

“I got my first Sportsman win at this track, and we ran good there in preseason testing, so we’re ready,” Brogdon said. “I like everything about Phoenix. Plus, there’s a casino real close by and that’s always fun.”

Looking to up the ante and advance to the final round of the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals this weekend, Brogdon is hoping to show off even more horsepower under the hood of his Elite Motorsports-powered Rodger Brogdon Racing Chevrolet.

“We’ll be ready to go,” Brogdon said. “Hopefully, we’ll have the engine we hurt a little in Pomona fixed and we can put that in there. It’s just a tad bit quicker but sometimes that ‘tad’ is the difference. This is a sport where inches can determine a lot and every little bit can help.”

As one of the few drivers who has gotten to experience Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park since its recent renovation, Brogdon has a deeper sense of confidence heading into this weekend’s race.

“It was just good to go down that track a little since they re-did it,” Brogdon said. “We only made it down in testing three times, so I don’t know if that was a huge advantage, but one of the times we made we were the fastest down the track, so I’m confident we’ll be fast again when we get there.

“Come Sunday, we’ve just got to put four good rounds in a row together. I need to try not to think so much, too.”

Qualifying sessions are scheduled for 1:30 and 4 p.m. PT, Friday and Saturday. Eliminations will start at approximately noon, Sunday, with both qualifying and elimination action broadcast on ESPN2 on tape-delay basis.
