Morgan heads to Phoenix ready to turn up the heat and win

PHOENIX, AZ – After a strong quarterfinal finish at the season-opening race in Pomona, Calif., FireAde Chevrolet Larry Morgan - PomonaPro Stock driver Larry Morgan is anxious to take things to the next level this weekend at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

“I think we got off to a decent start,” Morgan said. “I was excited that we were able to make some good runs in Pomona. We’ve only made a handful of runs on our new car, so every race offers us more opportunities to shine.”

With only one race under his belt since changing to the Chevrolet brand and partnering with Gray Motorsports, Morgan is proud of the results his team has seen so far. However, after years of racing experience, the veteran driver knows lasting success won’t happen overnight.

“You know what? We’ve already done well this year,” Morgan said. “I told Shane (Gray), ‘We’ve done well.’ This is not easy. We’ve not made many runs on the car because we just haven’t been able to yet. It’s still a work in progress, but we’re clearly headed in the right direction. You have to think things will only get better.”

Joining Morgan this weekend will be a special group from the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, located inside Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. Last fall, Morgan’s new title sponsor, FireAde, became the Official Fire Safety Products of the driving school.

“It’ll be fun to have those guys over to see how we do things,” Morgan said. “I’m so excited to be representing Ron (Thames, FireAde founder) and all the other people at FireAde. I’ve been blessed, for sure. I want to get the job done, not only for myself but for my team, my sponsor, and everyone else involved.

“FireAde really works at putting fires out in a fraction of the time than other methods, and in auto racing that’s huge. I’m sure the folks from the Bondurant School will tell you the same thing. They’re already tuned into how great a product FireAde is in practice.”

Qualifying sessions are scheduled for 1:30 and 4 p.m. PT, Friday and Saturday. Eliminations will start at approximately noon, Sunday, with both qualifying and elimination action broadcast on ESPN2 on tape-delay basis.
