Haney Heading to MWPMS Event for Topeka Birthday Bash
TULSA, OK – Keith Haney last visited Heartland Motorsports Park in May for his NHRA Pro Mod debut in the 
Summit Racing Equipment Camaro.
This weekend (June 29-30), he’ll be back at the Topeka, KS-based drag strip in a more familiar role as owner, promoter, and competitor with the Frankenstein Engine Dynamics Mid-West Pro Mod Series (MWPMS), which will be participating in Heartland Motorsports Park’s 30th anniversary celebration. The two-day event also will feature diesel drags, bracket racing and a big, trackside fireworks show on Saturday night.
“You know, I was thrilled with my return to quarter-mile racing with the NHRA last month at Heartland Park, but now my sights are set firmly on tearing up the eighth mile there and winning the Mid-West Pro Mod Series race,” said Haney, who did not participate in the two most recent MWPMS events.
“For the race last month in Tulsa I loaned out my Pro Mod car to my good friend Jim Sackuvich after he had a very unfortunate accident during testing there. Then early this month some last-minute business obligations popped up and I had to miss our race in St. Louis, too, which really killed me because I love that track. But that little break also gave me a good outlook on rules committees and other things to make the Mid-West Pro Mod Series a little bit better organization wise.”
Haney will compete at Topeka with “Notorious,” his nitrous-boosted 2016 Camaro Pro Mod that’s tuned by Brandon Switzer and co-crew chief Brandon Pesz. His Keith Haney Racing team also campaigns “Enigma,” a nearly identical-looking Camaro, in the MWPMS Radial vs. the World class, but no radial racing is on the ticket for Topeka.
“The break from racing helped my guys out, too. We did have a couple of problems with explosions earlier this year, but that’s all been sorted out now. And with only the one car for us to work on in Topeka, well, that’s not going to work out too well for these other Pro Mod guys,” Haney declared. “They’ve had a nice little break from me draggin’ their butts, but that’s over now. I guarantee you, if they didn’t believe it before, they’ll all know my name by the time his one’s over.”
With four of eight scheduled MWPMS events in the books, Ron Muenks holds the 2018 Pro Mod points lead. Not far behind, though, is Jonas Aleshire with Sackuvich, Todd Martin and Aaron Wells rounding out the top five. Haney, the defending class champion, fell out of the top-10 after missing the prior two events, but remains optimistic.
“This is a big race for everyone,” Haney said. “This race in Topeka represents a chance for the guys up front to put some distance on the competition, but it’s still not too late for someone further back-like me-to put a big come-from-behind charge together. Topeka better be ready for some fireworks-and not just on Saturday night!”
Keith Haney Racing will participate in Pro Mod testing at HMP from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and will join all MWPMS competitors for two rounds of official qualifying at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Round three of qualifying is set for 10:30 Saturday morning with the fourth and final session set for 12:30 p.m. Pro Mod eliminations are scheduled for 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:30 Saturday night.
