NHRA’S TOP FUEL CHAMP ANTRON BROWN – ONLY ON THE DAVE DESPAIN SHOW, SUNDAY OCT. 5 AT 8:00PM ET

Corona, CA – To NHRA drag racing fans and motorsports fans everywhere, Antron Brown is an icon. Not only is he a world champion in one of Antron Brownthe toughest sports on the planet but he’s the first African-American piloting a 300 mph top fuel dragster ever to do so.

“My hero is Big Daddy Don Garlits”

Brown has all the right racing genes. He almost grew up at drag strip when he tagged along with his father, Albert, and uncle, Andre, who were – and continue to be – avid NHRA Sportsman racers. So it’s only fitting that Antron dreamt of growing up to be a drag racing champion and starting on Pro Stock bikes at speeds touching 200mph he made the jump to 300mph plus Top Fuel fulfilled his dream.

“he whipped my butt on a hole shot”

“I never sat back and thought about it, says Brown. “But if I can be an inspiration for kids out there – not just African-Americans, just Americans period – and give them somebody they can look up to that’s positive, then it makes this accomplishment even more special”.

Brown’s vibrant personality, perseverance, intelligence, athleticism and deeply held religious convictions helped plot the course for him getting a job driving in NHRA drag racing’s ultimate category of Top Fuel Dragster in 2008.

“that 300mph crash proved damaging to my title defense”

Just four years later, the New Jersey native would be crowned the 2012 NHRA Top Fuel world champion after record breaking runs in his Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster for Don Schumacher Racing. The first of what he intends to be several world championships was earned on Nov. 11, 2012, in the final event of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series season at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Calif.
