Di Lecce, Litchy, De Jonge, and Cryderman head up qualifying at Cayuga’s South Coast Community Weekend

CAYUGA, ON – Qualifying rounds were completed Saturday for the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.

This event, the South Coast Community Weekend, is the third race for all three series this season.

Once again, Rocky Di Lecce of Mississauga, Ontario qualified number one in the PMRA. The Camaro Pro Modified driver, who has won two PMRA races this year, posted a 6.041-second, 240.57-mph pass. Rob Atchison of London, Ontario qualified number two with his Corvette, and Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario qualified number three with his new 1968 Firebird.

On Top Dragster side of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, James Litchy of Linwood, Ontario captured top spot with a 6.130, 233.26 run, followed Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario and Glen Vardy of Burlington, Ontario.

The turbocharged Cobalt entry of Fred De Jonge of Puslinch, Ontario paced the Top Sportsman side with a 6.746, 206.04 posting, followed by Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario and Rob Gray of Ingersoll, Ontario.

And previous race winner Dan Cryderman of Thamesville, Ontario rode his Suzuki Pro Bike entry to top qualifier in the PBSS presented by Wiseco Performance Products with a 7.915, 165.77. John Orfanidis of Toronto, Ontario qualified second with his Pro Bike Suzuki, followed by the Pro Bike Kawasaki of Ted Glinny of Milton, Ontario.

Elimination rounds in all three series will begin Sunday, June 23 starting at 11:15 am.

The postponed Martin, Michigan race was completed at Cayuga today for the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the PBSS with winners declared in each series.

Winning his first ever Quick 32 Sportsman Series race was Sam Christian with his Top Dragster. The Amherst, New York driver met up with and eliminated two-time series champion Kevin Wicke for the event final, and took the win with a 6.822, 198.32 over Wicke’s 6.876, 202.24. Christian eliminated Vardy in the Top Dragster final, and Wicke took out Spencer Hyde of Stratford, Ontario in the Top Sportsman final.

PBSS champion Ted Glinny notched another win in the postponed Michigan race, riding to victory with a 8.499, 152.74 final over Marty Kuiack in an all-Pro Bike final. Both riders are from Milton, Ontario, and both ride Kawasakis.
