Well-prepared FireAde team ready to send Larry Morgan to Seattle winner’s circle
SEATTLE – One of the keys to success on the Western Swing is preparation because three races in three weeks far
from a team’s home base can be taxing, so it should come as no surprise that FireAde Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan has done well on the Swing, winning in Denver.
His Larry Morgan Racing team is as well-prepared for the three races as any team in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, which hosts the NHRA Northwest Nationals this weekend at Pacific Raceways.
“We’re way more prepared,” Morgan said. “Our team is phenomenal right now. We had a little hiccup in Sonoma (Calif.), but that was the driver’s fault. The team is great thanks to FireAde and the Grays and everyone on my team.”
Morgan gained support from FireAde for the 2015 season and aligned his team with Gray Motorsports, which supplies engines and technical support. That support has helped lead to two Pro Stock victories this season, with Morgan a threat to win every weekend.
Plus, since the Grays supply engines to Morgan’s team, he’s able to focus on getting his team ready for the three-race swing, a trek that covers more than 5,700 miles round trip from Morgan’s shop in Newark, Ohio, to Bandimere Speedway, Sonoma Raceway, Pacific Raceways, and back.
Morgan began the Swing by beating Allen Johnson in the Denver final after a long staging duel that thrilled the fans. but he then red-lit in the first round in Sonoma to end his shot at a sweep of the Western Swing.
“Since I messed up in Sonoma, I can’t wait for Seattle,” Morgan said. “Good thing I don’t have to wait long to race again. I’m OK.”
Some minor engine problems hampered Morgan in Sonoma, but those have been ironed out heading into this weekend’s race.
“We did have some engine issues in Sonoma, but it was something we were trying. It probably got us in trouble, but we’ll be all right. Let’s go up there and win Seattle.”
Pro Stock qualifying sessions are scheduled for 2:30 and 5:30 p.m., Friday, and 1 and 4 p.m., Saturday. Eliminations begin at noon, Sunday. ESPN2 will carry both qualifying and elimination action.
